Altec Lansing BXR1120 2.5 Music and Gaming Speaker System

I have found these speakers to be EXCELLENT. I bought them so I could listen to my mp3 player while I am working at my computer. They sound good and they work great. The only draw-back I have found so far is that they are very light weight, which makes them easy to tip over.

Yes, they are tippy. Yes, they're AC powered. Yes, they have knob controls that could be awkward for some. That said, they are lightweight and easy to take along and the sound quality is EXCELLENT provided you are not a "music lover" who likes to blast the bass. (Frankly, I don't think REAL music lovers DO blast the bass. And if you do, some nice hearing aids are in your future :)) In sum they are a lot better quality than the cheap portables I used to use with my MP3 and my computer and cost no more. Well worth the price.

The Altec Lansing BXR1120 speakers appear to be a newer, redesigned release of Altec Lansing's older BX1020 desktop speakers -- which these are replacing due to a broken headphone jack. The sound quality is reasonable for this price range (though with a noticeable lack of bottom end), and the "Auxiliary" and "Headphone" jacks are very handy with my setup. This updated design, though more attractive than the older BX1020's, is inferior in use. As previously mentioned, the stability of these speakers is poor and makes them easily prone to being knocked over. They are unnecessarily bigger than need be; three inches taller than the BX1020's, making them less "compact". The POWER, VOLUME, and TONE knobs are small, making them somewhat clumsy and difficult to grasp, and adjust. In fact, you sometimes need two hands to turn the knobs -- one to hold onto the speaker so it doesn't fall over, and the other to grasp the short knob. The MP3 Player Cradle is a joke and I can't imagine anyone would actually use it; just another piece of plastic junk to add to our nation's landfills, in my opinion. ============================= AN UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW: ============================= After a week of using these speakers, I switched back to the older BX1020 speakers, in lieu of the broken headphone jack. The difference in sound quality between the two speakers became apparent after using the speakers in multiple environments. Music, especially. Newer isn't necessarily better, as is the case with these Altec Lansing speakers.

I didn't want to spend much money on my speakers because they are just for my computer at work. These are perfect. Easy install, good sound.

I bought 2 sets of these speakers for a couple of PC's I have in our kitchen. The price is good and the sound is fine, but I read that these can be mounted to the wall. They can't. Moreover, they're not balanced well and tip over constantly. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: one of the speakers died after only 2 months of use. These things are junk. I'm now looking for replacements.

I must be out of touch with current price trends but I can't believe these were selling for $20! I just tried out a set today and they sounded like they were worth half that. I'm no audiophile and usually have my computer hooked up to an old boom box for sound but these speakers fell below my already low expectations. The sound was weak and wasn't even as good as my small boom box. On top of this, these speakers tip over WAY too easily. For 20 bucks and an AC adapter for extra power, I expected a little more.

This set of speakers works well and gets the job done. I use them with my laptop in my classroom. The volume on my mac is not loud enough for the class to hear. With these speakers, everything is clear as a bell. In fact, the first couple of times I used them, the teacher next door had to come over to tell me it was too loud! (oops) They are compact enough to travel between home and school if need be. I could pack them in a suitcase for a presentation as well. Overall, I've found them to be a great value considering the price.

Based on the small and compact size i first thought that they would be little dinky speakers, but they pack a punch with a great sound quality, i was looking to get a new sound card for my computer but with these there is no need.
