Excactly what I wanted!
I was looking to replace an old packable backpack from EMS I've been using every day for at least ten years. I tried a few backpacks from Patagonia and searched for others on line, but could not find anything close to the old pack. This In and Out 22L pack is made will strong but light nylon, not polyester, fabric. It has a technical sternum strap, bottle holder on the outside with a nylon tensioner to ensure items stay put. It also has extra loops and tie downs built into the bag. It has two front pockets, a large, drawstring main compartment and an internal extra pocket for valuable items or a water bladder. Everything feels quality, but most importantly, it feels like quality! $99 sounds like a high price for a pack this size, but I can tell you, the $150 Patagonia I tried had weird geometry, very hard to access the main compartment and it felt so cheap. Another Patagonia bag I tried also had just the oddest dimensions. It was like a little kids back pack, just super sized. This pack was made from recycled polyester, which is great, but it was super heavy with nothing in it. Lastly, I really like that the In and Out has a protective, adjustable top flap to keep things dry inside. Too many of the bags I checked out had no protection for the top of the pack. This is a light weight, durable technical backpack that can be used for daily use or for real mountain climbing. Oh, one more thing. I am 197 lbs and 5'11". This backpack can be adjusted to fit someone my size or bigger, and also can be cinched up to fit someone much smaller. Truly versatile!

Packable pack - durable and functional
Easy to pack into itself and use as a day bag as part of a larger trip. Also a-ok for use as an airline carry on for under a seat. Has an outside thin zippered mesh pocket (same one it folds into), a top smaller zippered sunglasses pocket that works well, and then a large main pouch with a small partition inside. The only weird and absurdly frustrating part is the water bottle pouch on the outside - it doesn’t actually go all the way to the bottom of the bag leaving this weird extra space, and it’s oddly grippy so getting a bottle in with one hand is next to impossible. Overall really like the pack for a quick extra pack to have and use it around town. I could fit two sweatshirts, sunglasses, a days worth of snacks, sunscreen and hand sanitizer on the outside. Has a few straps on the outside to tighten up the pack too. I’m not sure I would count on this being my everyday pack for months on end and while the straps and chest straps are fine they don’t look like they would hold up under daily city use. Bottom line - day pack, Packable, it’s not a goruck bag but that’s a-ok.

A brilliant piece of gear.
I wish I had photos of the various ways I've set this up, to really drive this review home: This bag is fantastic. I hike a little, but I travel an enormous amount, and often travel to one place (A) before jetting off to another (B) for a few days, leaving most of my stuff at (A). This bag folds up small enough to put in a decent-sized jeans pocket, or can just be clipped on to a backpack adding almost zero weight. Folded up, it's absolutely tiny and fits anywhere. Unfolded, it's 19L of flexible-yet-durable ripstop with outer straps and loops galore. I managed to fit snorkel gear, five days of clothing and toiletries, sneakers, a JBL Flip speaker, plus a handful of other things, then lash a rolled-up beach towel to the side, and still have space in the outside pockets for various small things, plus space inside for a bunch of souvenirs on the way back. Unpack, smash it back into itself, and it just disappears into my primary bag like nothing ever happened. If you travel a lot and are looking for a small-to-medium day pack to adventure with while your primary backpack or duffel lives in a hotel or airport luggage storage, this bag is absolutely it.

Great backpack, hard to stuff
I purchased this for work travel and have been very happy with it. It is light and very comfortable to wear. I often carry a laptop in a case and other accessories in the bag. The one downside is that it is VERY difficult to stuff it back in the travel pocket, and I worry that the bag will rip given how hard I have to jam stuff in. Because of this, I no longer stuff it in the pocket and roll it up in another bag which achieves the same goal. I removed one start due to the difficult packability.

Great little pack but be careful with the durability
I really like this little pack, it is handy to put into a larger bag or backpack to carry lighter loads for the day. I am not going to take away a star because it’s on me, but I did tear mine while scurrying down a boulder on a day hike. This thing is not indestructible but that’s pretty obvious by the fact that the fabric is thin. I should have known better, but I’m sharing my tale in case anyone else thinks they are getting magic fabric. To be more durable it would also be heavier and more rigid, defeating the whole purpose of a small collapsible pack. I ended up picking up a second one and am now treating that one appropriately.

Building a mystery
I just like this company. They make really good packs and traveling with a well made large day pack that compresses to a small pouch is really convenient for hiking and traveling.

A very comfortable bag, especially for what it is and it's intended use
It's a summit bag, but even if one would use it for regular every-day things on a holiday or when they want to pack light - it's perfect. One tiny gripe I had when using it was not having a second side pocket, however that can be overlooked. It's a fully functional bag, with quite a lot of comfort given that it's a packable backpack. It's not an AER TP3 in terms of comfort or size, but it's truly a fantastic bag when you only need several things (it can hold quite a lot though) and you need it to be easy to use. Another thing is that it's relatively easy to pack inside it's own pocket. Some packable things, like backpacks, jackets, etc. are "packable", but it's such a hassle to actually pack, that I usually don't bother, but this pack excels in this regard.

Best packable backpack I've found
I am so impressed with this backpack. I looked at other packable backpacks by highly respected companies and was disappointed in all because of cheap materials or lack of functionality. This backpack is lightweight and easily stuffed inside it's pocket. It holds 2 large water bottles and still has room for everything I could possibly need for a days outing or as a carryon. I used it everyday on a 2 week trip to Japan and it was very comfortable even when the load was heavy. It's also adjustable for different body shapes and sizes. Lifetime warranty too!
