Portmeirion Sophie Conran White Covered Butter Dish

I discovered I really like leaving my butter out on the counter all the time a few years ago. I am a bread baker and it is so nice to already have soft butter to add to my bread recipes not to mention spreading on the bread once it is baked. Because I like the KerryGold Butter I have been using a small salad plate with a small bowl upturned on top of it for years. Needless to say this has not been the best solution but I could never find something large enough for the larger stick until now. I did hesitate due to the number of complaints about the lid fitting poorly. I must have lucked out because my lid fits perfectly in one direction and is only a little loopy the other direction. So my solution to that was to take some very light green fingernail polish and add the smallest dot to the rim of the lid and the bowl so they exactly match when you have the lid on correctly. I didn't tell any of the men in my household that is what it meant and days later asked and they said they figured it out by themselves. Problem solved. The lid is always on correctly and I have a wonderfully beautiful dish for my butter now with a lid that has a handle. The dish has a soft swirl design on the lid that is very pleasant to look at and will look great on my dining room table. I actually may buy a second one for guest and the dining room table since the price was so reasonable. I'd like to thank all those who did write all the five star reviews because they gave me the confidence to take a chance on this butter keeper. And I am glad I did. I did consider the butter keepers wtih the water below, but many said it was messy and the butter was always wet and those only housed one stick of butter which was not the best for my situation. This dish houses two sticks of regular sized butter side by side while still hard. We use out butter so fast we really don't have a problem though keeping it on the counter without the aid of water. I bake a lot. If we go away for a few days, it goes back in fridge or is not replaced for that period.

I thought it was going to be a little bigger according to the images on Amazon, but it’s perfect size It’s very nice, elegant, simple design the lid sits nicely on the dish I used to use a paper bowl with a paper plate on top which I would replace when it got really messy and then I thought maybe there’s something on Amazon and sure enough there was One picture shows my new butter dish beside my old system I also took a picture of the butter on the inside. I keep my butter in the wrapper to minimize messing up the dish. I tried a butter bell, but that didn’t work for me. I couldn’t change the water frequently enough. I don’t like the other flat dishes because the butter gets all over the lid. I’ve ordered some butter knives. I used to use a regular knife, but it was huge I think the new butter knife will be able to sit in the dish. I’ll post a picture.

I like that it's porcelain so the material is thin and the whole crock is light. The design is simple and pretty. I do like that it has the look of handmade pottery. That said, the lid on mine fits best only one way. It we turn it and set it the other way on the crock, then the lid doesn't sit well and there's a gap on one side. I already had a butter dish and I got this because it fits the wide Kerrygold butter 🧈

This is a beautiful butter dish, able to hold almost a pound of butter. Made out of white ceramic/pottery, the design can be used with antique or very modern dishes. The beautiful knob on the top of the cover fits perfectly with the design. Easy to clean but we don't put it in the dishwasher.

Really nice butter dish if you want to leave the butter out but keep it covered. Most covered butter dishes are a flat dish that has a deep lid that you have to pull off. The ones we had were constantly smeared with butter. They also did not have a good knob to grasp to remove the cover. I'd pull the lid of and go to set it down and it'd be covered in butter. If I set it down, butter would deposit onto the counter. This deep dish addresses all my concerns: it is a deep dish that holds as much butter as anyone could use. It has a more or less flat lid that stays clean. it has a good knob for grasping. it's also nice porcelain, not cheap plastic. Easily washes in the dishwasher. Unless we drop it and it breaks, it will last a very long time.

I bought this after a french butter-in-water dish disaster that didn’t work for me. This is a sizable butter dish that will fit two sticks or a large European chunk of butter. It looks great on the counter, and even my husband likes it. Be aware that the lid does not seal tightly, it just rests on the container. Easy to clean in the dishwasher.

Really pretty butter dish arrived in a nice box well packed. More delicate that I expected. The dish has an ample capacity.

Normalerweise kaufe ich diese neueren Butter/Ölmischungen im Supermarkt, die sowieso schon in einer Kunststoff/Plastikschachtel angeboten werden wie Kaergarden, ..... Da ich noch andere Sophie Conran Portmeirion Produkte habe, dachte ich, mal sehen. Schönes Porzellan (ich mag die Riffelung, die auch innen in der Dose ist. Die Dose hält die Butter am Tisch länger kühl, schließt gut (Butter schmeckt bei mir nicht nach Kühlschrank) und es macht mir mehr Spaß die Butter zu essen (da sie im Gegensatz zu den Plastikbutterdosen, die beim Kühlschrankkauf dabei sind, einfach edel aussieht und sich anfühlt).

Was looking for a butter dish for AGES but never saw anything I particularly liked. Saw this and thought I’d take a punt, was very pleased! Lovely quality and good size.
