Absolute Batman Vol. 2: Abomination (Absolute Universe)

As a lifetime comics enjoyer, especially around Batman and Spider-Man, this has to be the best arc I have read in a while maybe ever. Absolutely blew me off my feet! Grit and badassery all around, from the story to the artstyle. I like how the Absolute counterparts of familiar characters are handled, and in a lot of cases I actually prefer thwm here, mostly Bruce. 10/10 read, you won't regret it!

Absolute Batman Volume 2 continues the amazing reimagining of a younger more visceral Batman and his fight to save Gotham. Volume 2 collets Absolute Batman issues #7-14 which go over two story arcs. The first is Bruce gathering information about the mysterious Ark M being built off the coast of Gotham and encountering a terrifying spin on a classic villain. The second arc introduces this worlds version of Bane, his connection to Ark M, and Alfred. The Hardcover edition is very well put together, the pages are clean and the art is very well presented. There is some minor gutter loss where you need to really open up the spine to see the full image but nothing is buried between the pages. Overall if you’re a fan of Batman and already read through Volume 1 then expect more of the same great storytelling and weird twists on this classic character and his rogues gallery.

Vol 2 is just as great as Vol 1 was. Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta are knocking this out of the park every issue. A must read.

The hype is real. Absolute Batman is pretty incredible. The artwork. The setting. The story. It’s all there and it’s good. Really good. This version of Bruce is excellent. Something like Bruce can get lost in Batman comics. Not here. Bruce is center stage. He’s young, learning and HUGE. This series is absolutely brutal. Between the blood and bone breaking segments it’s hard to catch your breath. All of that being said, why the 4.5? The writing can be a bit juvenile. The amount of unnecessary cursing could make a sailor shake his head. It just comes across a little unnecessary. The other issue I have is the unnecessary amount of exposition. It goes from pounding and brutal to dull and stagnant. Pennyworth talking about Bane is just too long. I get it’s his origin and all that. But it’s just too much for me. So it’s amazing and exactly what Batman needed. But it has pacing issues.

I’m really loving the Absolute Batman series. This is another great volume that builds upon the first and is full of surprises! The art is amazing and the story is a lot of fun. Can’t wait for the next one!

Du scénario à la narration en passant par les dessins, cette série est une réussite de bout en bout. C'est puissant, violent, cruel, épique, original et addictif. L'introduction de nouveaux personnages est très jouissive. Le premier tome était excellent, celui-ci explose tout. Tellement convaincu que d'imaginer attendre le 3ème volume paraît insurmontable.
