Very Nifty Device!
I purchased the Premium and so far I’m very happy with it. It’s sturdy and operates as desired. I utilize the sensor option and the door closes like clockwork at sunset and opens like clockwork at sunrise. Very neat little device. The one con I should say is I definitely would not consider this “super easy to install”; plus I found the instructions to assume a lot on the customer’s skill level. I wouldn’t say installation was very difficult, but it would’ve been much simpler if the rails and door came preassembled in a frame since coops come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Installing the rails just so with a level so that the door operates properly definitely required some time and detail. I also found the programming not exactly simple, but I got it done. Mine apparently has a Lux+ feature which I have yet been able to locate on the menu selections. Overall, I am very happy with the product and think it’s worth the extra money to get the sensor option. I was also quite surprised and pleased to find this was not made in China, but in the United Kingdom!

Great product. Unfortunately, being a man, I did not read the entire directions during installation.
Product was fairly easy to install. After installation was complete the door is very sturdy and predator proof. It’s my first chicken door and for months I have been having to let my chickens out and put them up every day. This was the best thing in the world. And then it quit working after 4 months. Turns out I did not run the string through the correct exit hole. I ended up calling customer service, and surprisingly talked to the owner of the company by chance. After 20 minutes he was able to fix my problem and we ran the string correctly. I was irritated at first because I thought the product failed, but it turned out to be USER ERROR. Product works correctly again. I will definitely buy another one of these if I build an additional coop.

Warranty a little lazy but
Pros: This door has been SO AWESOME!!! I think I'd have to rehome my chickens if it weren't for the work this door does for me so I don't have to be at the chicken house early in the morning AND every evening. I've also heard that other doors chop chicken's heads off. This one does not chop off chicken heads; yay! My chickens stick their necks all the way out and wait till the door rests on top of their necks before drawing their heads inside their coop in the evenings. It is SUPER strange. But it has never hurt them a bit. The door just gets lifted a bit. The customer service is pretty good, too. In the US, I'm not really used to actually ever hearing back from warranty service or other product customer service departments. Chicken guard will actually get back to you with REAL people on the other end who are willing to email. You don't even have to play phone tag! My standards are so low at this point. Cons: The clock gets off time relatively quickly, so if you have the door set on a clock setting, you'll need to check it every few weeks to make sure the time is still set correctly. The rod on my door snapped off during the winter. It doesn't get too freezing where I am; the rod is just made of kind of cheap plastic. When I requested a replacement door, customer service, after emailing back and forth over a few weeks (in which the door was broken and I had to use gaff tape to try to fix the rod temporarily), the warranty folks mailed me a replacement rod. It took me about 3 hours to get supplies for being my own repair person, dismantle the whole door, take out the original rod, put in the replacement rod, reassemble the door, reinsert it back into the old door enclosure, then recalibrate the door. If I hadn't been unemployed at the time with free time on my hands, I would have been totally out of luck. So while the customer service and warranty does exist, it doesn't seem to come with a service department? I think if I had asked clearly, they probably would have sent me a new door. I just really wish they had told me ahead of time they were actually sending me a project that would take hours and required knowledge of how to disassemble and reassemble small mechanical devices with dozens of tiny, specific screw locations. Anyways it's the best thing out there and it is worth the money, and this is coming from a frugal person that doesn't have a lot of money in the first place. Just be clear with them if you don't have any time for being your own repair person should your door break down. I'm pretty sure they'd be nice about it.

Love the upgrade
I had the standard Chicken Guard motor and door with my original coop, and had some problems with both. I moved and had to build a new coop; I’m glad I stuck with Chicken Guard. I got the premium version with the self locking door. The door: massive improvement over the metal sliding door with the wood rails from the last kit. The rails used to expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity, preventing the doors from closing properly. This door and rail set is all plastic, so that problem is eliminated. And it can’t smoosh your chickens when closing. The whole system is easy to install. As it’s opening, the door has a mechanism that pulls up locking wings that keep the door shut at night - very clever and effective. The motor unit: Also a huge upgrade from the standard unit I bought a few years ago. My main problem with that one was that it gave no option to skip the door calibration before changing the opening/closing time, a huge pain in the spring/summer. This premium operating unit has a lot of options for opening and closing, plus the ability to adjust the light level required for opening/closing if not using the timer or manual close. Plus, a better menu! No constant door calibration! Final thoughts? This is a great purchase, I’m glad I got it. I live next to a forest preserve and have a ton of predators, this gives me great piece of mind.

Don't waste your money. Product is fine but longevity is lacking.
Bought this about 18 months ago and it was great until it wasn't. The product works as expected and all of the functions are easy to use, but now 18 months later the thing is just a pile of chinese plastic. The motor has completely given out, the screen says battery low even when brand new batteries are swapped in, the locks have failed, the tracks stick. Honestly for $200+ I would expect this to be a long term purchase. If I am going to have to replace a door annually I'd rather get the $50 versions, and would recommend anyone else do the same. Don't waste your money.

It will breakdown within the first 6 months
I bought this device to make my coop a more self sufficient for when I am away for work and have other people watching my animals. It worked without issue for the first six months, then I had to start changing the batteries every week to keep it working. Some more time goes by and I friend said you should see if it came with a warranty. I reached out to Customer Service and they will make you jump through hoops sending videos and pictures of multiple different pieces. I started a conversation about my issues at the beginning of January and I didn't get my replacement part for the battery until February. Also as we continue conversations through February my coop door quits locking. Once again I have to jump through hoops to get help with the door. I did all the troubleshooting and it still wont work. Then they tell me the the door is not covered any longer. So even through they say the its a 3 year warranty it is only one year for the door. Then the cherry on top is in the process of trying to get the locking mechanism to work again I have a massacre of over half my flock, but the door will not lock... This product is way to expensive for the amount of issues I have had with it, and the customer service has been a grueling process. I would not buy this product, it is waste of your time and money and it is not good enough for protecting my flock.

Well worth the money, easy to install and use
I've been researching automatic coop doors for over a year. I decided on the Premium because of the autonomic locking feature and options. You can set it for light, timer or both. The actual LED box is sealed well with the included seal kit, easy to read and program. The light blinks every 30 seconds when closed and can be seen from 100 yards away so you know the door is closed without going out to the coop. You need to leave about an 1/8 of an inch space on each side of the door so it easily slides during operation, I would suggest using a level as I did to make sure you install it straight so the door doesn't bind. The door when closed was a few inches smaller than my original pop door but that was easily fixed but putting a 2x4 on the inside and cutting a piece to fit the outside and screwing them together. It was pretty easy to install but having another person to hold the door guides would have made it even easier. It's made of tough plastic and aluminum. It's lightweight but very sturdy and once it's all the way down nothing is getting in your coop. Make sure when setting it up, you let the little pin that the string is attached to go all the way down so the locking pins engage before hitting the stop button. The directions where easy to follow and set up was simple. I used 24 hour/military time to set mine so I didn't confuse am and pm. I have mine open at a set time in the morning to keep the girls in to lay and at night I used a combination of light sensor and set time incase it's overcast since mine is inside my run. I plan on purchasing another one for the run door to the pasture once I redo my run. It's a great piece of mind that my girls are secure for the night and I don't have to get up early to let them out anymore. The light will blink when the batteries need replaced and it stores your setting so you don't have to reprogram. You can get a power cord to plug in but the batteries last well over six months. I got the Premium because our winter temperatures get below zero but there is an Extreme model for even more harsh weather. These might seem expensive but you get what you pay for and I would recommend this setup for anyone who wants to keep their flock safe at night. I have coyotes, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, possums and weasels and none of them can get through this door.

it looks great, works well but with one major flaw
This is a nice looking addition to our coop. However, one major feature as the reason I was buying the premium version is the light sensor. To my surprise, it doesn't quite work as I would have though so, and here are the details: The light level for door closing can be set between 0-199. One would have thought that a reasonable value to be chosen would be somewhere within this range. However, we realized at sunset time (~8:30p in summer) the light reading is still around 220. and it doesn't dip below 200 until maybe closer to 9pm. So that range of 0-199 is totally not usable. Also to give you a perspective, our unit is installed at the far end of the chicken run opposite to the setting sun, so it ain't getting any direct sunlight from the setting sun, rather just the normal ambient light. This just rendered the light sensing feature not applicable, and we have to reply on the LUX+ feature (light + actual time of closing as backup) and rely on set time to close. This is definitely the biggest disappointment and the reason I have to write this review.

No issues in cold weather.
Works great and timer easy to adjust, batteries lasted about 8 months with no issues in Ontario Canadian winter. Ordering another for the run door so I can control when they free range. We did insulate the run with some old windows (to give light plus a view) and house wrap over the screened run that will be fully removed mid May and did install a heater on the run roof that was used on and off during really cold spells.

Excellent quality product.
The product is surprisingly well made and sturdy. It was easy to set up and works well with the light sensor. It might be a bit expensive but I can see from the quality that it should last a long time. I am very happy with my purchase.
