The Bonavita holds enough water to make coffee for 2 travel-size insulated coffee cups with a little left over, and that has been working fine. When family comes to visit, though, I find that I need just a bit more capacity than the Bonavita has. Enter the Doctor Hetzner electric kettle. This kettle has a nice gooseneck spout, variable temperature control and a larger capacity than the Bonavita. Inside both kettles is a line showing the maximum water level: exceed the level on the Bonavita and you end up with hot water bubbling out of the top of the kettle. I have found that the Doctor Hetzner kettle allows me to fill above the max line and, unless I have the water level very close to the top, it does not boil over and onto the counter. I can put in enough water to make 3 travel-size travel mugs of coffee with a single fill of this kettle. Besides having more capacity than my old kettle, this one has a couple of nice extra features. First, you can set the desired temperature of the water from room temperature to boiling. Setting it to room temperature is not very useful, but you can do it if you want. The old kettle would shut itself off when the water reached the boiling point, and according to the coffee experts I know, that’s too hot for the perfect cup of coffee. I can set the temperature on this new kettle to 195 degrees F (or you can get the equivalent in degrees C by changing the units displayed) and the kettle beeps and turns off the heating element at 195. Second, if I use less than the full amount of water from the kettle, I can turn the kettle on and have it hold a pre-set temperature. That way, if someone wants hot water a little later, they don’t need to wait for it to get to the pre-set temperature. I was curious about the difference in time that it takes each one to heat water, so I did this test. I filled the Bonavita kettle to the 1.0 liter mark, then poured the water into the Doctor Hetzner kettle. I then re-filled the Bonavita to the 1.0 liter mark. I turned both kettles on simultaneously and started a timer to see which one heats water faster. The Bonavita won with a time of 5 minutes and 42.32 seconds followed 9 seconds later by the Doctor Hetzner with a time of 5 minutes and 51.37 seconds. I really liked the Bonavita: it was a solid performer that heated water quickly. It just didn’t have the capacity of the new kettle, which I have been using for a few weeks now. I like the new Doctor Hetzner kettle so much that I gave the Bonavita to my daughter and I have no regrets. Review: it's perfect. - It works exactly as advertised - I can't say I have any complaints about this product. I did a lot of research before I bought it Just a some things to consider before you buy.. - There is a vent on the lid to let steam out once it boils. Keep the vent turned away from your hand when you pick it up to pour it-the steam is hot! - Don't pour it too fast or the hot water will come out the vent or lid. It isn't made to quickly dump a lot of water in your cup. - It only makes 2 decent sized cups of tea, coffee etc. If you pour out exactly 8 oz of liquid it makes more but, really, who does that? If you want an electric kettle for a party or a lot of people, this isn't the kettle for you but if you just want it to use yourself on an everyday basis, it's perfect. - It works exactly as advertised. - It is fast and beeps to let you know when it is ready. The beep is loud enough to hear in another room. - It pours out slowly and I really like the gooseneck spout when pouring over a tea bag as it offers a slower infusion. - You can set the temperature but the default temp has been perfect for me and the keep warm function is great. It will auto shut off immediately If you don't have the keep warm enabled. - It looks good. - Personally, I dump the remaining water out at the end of the day and do a quick rinse then it is ready for the next day. I'm glad I bought it and I do recommend it.

Only >1L electric kettle with a PLASTIC-FREE INTERIOR
I have spent more time than I will ever be willing to publicly admit researching kettles to find one without any plastic parts on the interior. I did this little bit because of that placebo plastic taste, but mostly because I have a major problem with plastic and hot liquids together, especially since BPA is only one of many toxic polymers. ANYWAY, this kettle is an absolute dream. I really don’t care about the variable temperature thing, since I like to let it boil then come down to my desired temp when making pourover coffee. It is a nice feature and works fine for those who like it, though, and works as advertised. The spout pours very accurately with no excess drip page, and the handle is comfortable even when using an entire kettle’s worth on the Chemex. While it is labeled as 1.2L, the max fill etching on the inside is at 1L. That said, the kettle has so much more room and I have put in over 1.3 without a problem, so I’d say the 1.2L claim is valid. This thing is really the best of both worlds, those being capacity and material. It is the largest electric kettle I’ve seen with trustworthy advertising and an all-stainless interior. CONS (ish): It only has two quirks that are mildly annoying, but are practically irrelevant and both related to the interface. 1) The beeping it makes when any button is pushed is just a little bit too loud for my liking. It’s not ear-piercing, but it certainly could be turned down a few notches. 2) If you do want to change the temperature significantly, you can’t hold the increase or decrease buttons. You have to keep pushing and pushing and pushing, which is only an inconvenience if you like to bring it Down super low. I was making bread and brought it down to 116 F and it just felt like forever pushing that button over and over. Again, tiny tiny annoyance. Overall, great buy. If you want a plastic-free kettle that you can put more than a liter in (i.e. if you wanna make more than 3 cups of coffee), this is the #1 choice.
