Interesting read but hard at first
This is an interesting read, presented in a lovely clothbound design thats small enough to fit in a large coat pocket. The positives are that if you are new Freud as I was, it easily eases you into his world and how he sees issues. There are some areas that do leave you with both outward and self reflection, especially in the way Freud describes the way Humans deal with guilt. But for it's enlightened writing, at first it's hard to read. The first half of the book seems like Freud jumping between issues and his first chapter randomly throws points about erotic thoughts at you. After a while, it gets easier to read, first as you get to know Freud's style but the writing becomes clearer, a point that Freud makes to the reader as well. Overall, I would recommend this book.

A brilliant read
Superb analysis of mankind's ills that ring so true today. Freud was a genius.

A good contribution from a pseudoscientist
Pseudoscience it is, and thereby most definitely founded on fraud, but an important contribution to the debate about our nature and the role of civilisation.

Great Book - Kindle Format not so great
The work is engaging and a good introduction to a lot of Freud’s ideas. However, the formatting on the Kindle is awful, with pages repeated and line spacing a complete mess, often breaking in the middle of sentences. Capital letters all over the place and just really obvious spelling mistakes. Get what you pay for I guess.

An excellent read, full of surprises!
Although I'm not sure how many, of the many ideas Freud discusses in this essay have been empirically verified, I found the text to be packed with interesting ideas and perspectives that are certainly worth thinking about. I especially enjoyed Freud's take on the origin of human conscience and the idea that not only individuals but whole societies may be subject to a superego which directs their actions. My final verdict is that although the scientific character of the ideas is often suspect, the ideas themselves are never boring and their exposition is very cogent.

アメリカでは大学の教養課程にて使用されるほどのテキストにも関わらず、邦訳はなぜか出版されていないようです。 "It is considered one of Freud's most important and widely read works" [...]

Amazing read. Probably one of the most interesting works of Freud I've read, probably because this was one of the more pseudoscientifical ones. If you go into this, please be familiar with Freud's earlier works already, especially the Ego and the Id, or just familiarize yourself with the Id, Ego and Superego... and the death and eros drives too at least before reading this, or it will not make much sense.
