Q: is it safe to use a heavy duty extension cord with this product?

It says in the ad that you should not use an extension cord but I must admit that I have mine connected to one because I did not have an outlet close to where I wanted it. I only turn mine on when I am going to be sitting close by.

Q: If placed on a fireplace, I would like to hide the cable. Any recommendations?

Dear Customer, Thank you for your question. 1. Have an electrician run an outlet inside the fireplace. You could plug it up and keep the cord somewhat bundled behind the logs. Q: I'd like to hang mini stockings and a mini nutcracker on top but don't want it to be a hazard. Does the top of the unit or outside get hot?
