The inner dimensions state 8x5. Does that mean that an 8x5 doc will fit or does it mean that the size of the sheet with binderholes is 8x5?

You will have to trim a 5x8 card to fit in the sleeve.

These protectors are a good medium thickness - not too thin/flimsy, not too thick/stiff. Printed pages are easily seen through the cover. Accommodated printout size is narrower than kneeboard size / 8 1/2 x 11 half-sheet printouts so you must adjust the printed sheet size to fit. Top load with a notch to enable easy removal of printed sheets.
