Roland Micro Cube GX Portable 3-Watt Guitar Amplifier, Black

It's a tiny, portable Roland amp, and like any Roland product I use, it's designed to sound good and last a long time. I don't own any Apple devices, so the iDevice integration isn't something I could evaluate. Perhaps Roland will move to more open integration options for their product line in the future, but that extra development and testing will come at some cost for sure. You can get some great sounds from this little amp, and the memory function is convenient and intuitive. Though it has pretty impressive low frequency response for such a small enclosure, the bottom end seems to boom and honk a bit more than I'd like for anything other than casual use or practice. With that said, the amp models span a pretty good range and the gain, volume, and tone for each can get you dialed into a sound you're bound to like. The effects (chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, and Octave) all sound fine for the role of this amp. The thing goes plenty loud for my tastes and my indoor application, though it may not have enough oomf to compete well with a drum set or in a large open area where sound tends to dissipate even at small distances. If I were to lose the Micro Cube, I'd get another without hesitation. Although I just might check out Roland's stereo portable amplifiers instead as I prefer a stereo image for its added depth-- electric guitars sound pretty 2-dimensional compared to other instruments like horns and woodwinds and mono amplifiers only make that more of an issue in my opinion. This is a good value for the money, and if you have Apple devices then there's supposed to be a pretty handy integration for you.

Although this is not specifically an acoustic guitar amplifier, it's actually ok for the purpose of amping the sound of a nylon string guitar with a pickup. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound--clean and reasonably loud (for a small venue like a coffee house or club.) You can use presets or adjust reverb, chorus, and delay to make your own sound profile: some of these were interesting on acoustic guitar and could work for jazz or blues. I just need it to be louder for playing in a room with people noise. It's too small for big venues (as my brother says, weight is proportional to quality and ability in amplifiers: this one is lightweight and small wattage.) But you can play it from six AA batteries and also from the included AC-in power cord, but this cord is very short and practically useless in setting up most places: it's even too short in my practice area. The unit also could have used a handle on top, but I just carry it in a canvas bag with a handle for lugging it to venues. For busking, it might be too low volume (unless you are in a tunnel.) Outdoors? Nice size for a backpack but I think it's a bit lightweight. For what this is, a micro cube, it's pretty good within the limitations described.

I really like this mini amp. It has good sound for practicing. Several effects so I can change sounds as my mood or the song/lesson changes. I can hook up my headphones and computer to it and quietly practice with the guitar sound and the lesson both in the headset and adjust the volume so they are equal. Very nice for taking a lesson or jamming over a song. I have used it several times on battery (AA) power and they have not needed to be replaced. The sound and effects are good. It is very portable and fills a bedroom with sound. I actually use it when I watch movies on my projector because our small speakers are never loud enough and this thing hooks up easily with a 3.5mm jack to my computer. I do not have a single complaint about this amp. The price is decent and the quality has been solid.

LOVELOVELOVE the Micro Cube with effects. I actually play it more than my 50 watt Peavy modeling amp. Its got great sound and versatility for such a small little guy. I love the JC Clean channel and spend most of my time there with a little chorus and reverb. Very nice. Price is neither cheap nor too expensive, of course it would be a STEAL at $120-$130, but whatevs. It's really renewed my love for playing guitar, now I can play in different rooms of the house easily, to hear acoustics and whatnot. of course my new xmas gift D'angelico hollow body also helps in my renewed love affair with the guitar. Im not a "serious" guitar play, whatever that means, but I can't see how any working musician would want one of they to putz around with!

This is a nice little practice/bedroom/busking sized amp, it has plenty of simulations from clean to extreme saturated distortion. the effects: (reverb, delay, phaser, chorus, flanger, tremolo, and octave) are easy to dial in and sound pretty good. All of the controls are clearly labeled, set up logically, and are simple to operate. I love the carry strap. It's honestly much higher in mechanical and sound quality than any of the other micro amps out there, Plus it runs on battery power and comes with an ac adaptor (some of the other brands make you buy that separately). I really don't have any negative things to say about this thing, It sounds good, looks good, and does exactly what I expected it would do. If you're in the market for a small amp spend the extra 50 bucks and get this one, you won't regret it.

This is my second Micro Cube and I like the earlier one very well too. But this one has memory for your settings, which is great, because I use it when recording and I used to have to take pictures of the knobs to make sure and get it back to where it was, when switching between recording and live performance. But with memory I no longer worry about that. When playing live, I just connect the guitar to the input and run the line out on the back to the input of my much bigger amp. I use the micro Cube for all my sounds. Very versatile. The amp modelling is as good as any I've heard. Every other guitar player I've shown it too and heard it have been blown away. Unless they already had one, that is. And even playing just with the built in speaker, it can get extremely loud in a living room, or smaller space.

This Micro Cube amplifier is truly amazing. I use it for practice with an acoustic electric guitar. The sound is big and it can get very loud. The effects all work perfectly. The clean channel is great for acoustic guitar. Adding a little chorus and reverb make my guitar really sing. The amp is build very well. Roland really knows how to build amps that will last. It may be a little heavier than competition, but that makes it more durable and able to stand a lot of handling. This amp is loud enough to handle a gig in a fairly small room. It plays loud without distorting. In short, this is a great little amp. Just buy it. You will not be disappointed.
