Now I Can Grow Sweet Red Peppers
This is great potting soil. We purchased 4 red pepper plants at our local nursery. Two plants went in the garden. The other two pepper plants went in a very large planter with half garden soil and half Miracle-Gro Garden Soil. The two pepper plants in the planter were in the front of the house where they got more morning sun. The two pepper plants in the garden got ample afternoon sun. Our tomato plants are doing great so I know there's enough sun. I might add that my husband amended the soil before planting as he always does. We have a great garden but peppers have always been a challenge for us. They just don't grow fast enough or big enough to produce much, if any nice fruit. Well, the two pepper plants in the garden were just kind of sitting there doing nothing and my husband was about to give up on them. I dug them out of the garden very carefully so the roots weren't damaged and planted each one in a one gallon container filled with pure moisture control potting mix. I set the two planters next to the one large planter in the front of the house containing the other two pepper plants. I thought those two pepper plants were doing well. Wow...you should see all four plants now. The two in the one huge planter are still doing very well and have nice good size peppers that are starting to show some color change. BUT.....the two weakling pepper plants that I put in the potting soil did a 100% turn around and started growing like crazy. The foliage is much greener in color, the plants caught up with them in fruit bearing. I've got nice big green peppers on them that look like I'll be seeing a color change coming on soon. I'm going to get a great harvest of red peppers this year. Next year I'm putting each pepper plant in it's own one gallon planter filled with Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. Finally...I can grow big ripe sweet red peppers.

FIRST, instead of a green thumb, I have more of a black thumb.... UPDATE!!!
UPDATE: It's now SEPT, my plants ARE THRIVING. AMAZING how lush they look. Great soil. The plants in them are healthy, growing fast. I know very little about plants, but have a friend who does and mine are mostly in shade, so she picked the right kind for that amount or lack of sun. She had even found a plant just growing wild behind a shed here and repotted in this soil, and it started flowering. SO YES, I will always get this kind. _________________________________________________ I wanted a good sized pot of plants near my entryway and got this soil, put it in a large pot and a friend picked up some plants and planted for me, but I had to keep them alive. They're THRIVING. I just water them. EXCELLENT RICH SOIL. For gardening novices or those who have trouble keeping plants alive, I would suggest this and the price was right too.

Swampy soil
I've been using this moisture control soil for a few years now. This soil claims to give your plants the right balance of moisture, but I've always found that this soil holds moisture for longer than you may want. Be careful with plants in this soil that don't like to be flooded and are prone to root rot. I have damaged a few of my plants from root rot in this soil because this dense soil will hold moisture for longer than I ever expected. I've learned my lesson a few times, and NEVER plant a succulent in this soil. This soil is also surprisingly dense when wet. If you tightly pack your pot, the soil may never dry out. You can tell when watering your plant and the water just sits on top of the soil as if it doesn't want to drain. I've found that if this happens you have to "aerate" the soil with a fork to loosen it up. On the contrary, this soil has been great for my plants who like wet environments. My pothos and spider plants are thriving in this soil! I water once about every two weeks and I've never had to worry about that plants drying out. One word of caution is that because this soil stays wet for a long time it is prone to attracting gnats and fruit flies. I have had to battle an infestation the last summer only to find out that these bugs were attracted to the wet soil in my plants. I ended up dusting the top layer of soil with diatomaceous earth to combat the bugs. Overall, this soil is okay, but don't believe the claim that it will prevent "overwatering". This soil loves to stay wet and you need to be wary about root rot on your plants.

Love to start seeds in this
This is a good all around gardening potting mix. I find it never had a lot of sticks in it- though like other potting soils it always seems to be better to buy in the spring than later in the year towards the fall. Later bags tend to have bigger 'chunks' in them for some reason. I like it enough to buy about a bag a week. In early spring I can often find better prices than this in the big box stores, but not always. The least I've seen it for is $7 on sale, but it often runs around 10-12 for 2 cubic feet, so I might as well buy it on Amazon and have it delivered and save the gas. It's really a LOT easier on my back this way. It has a lot of peat in it which absorbs water keeping the mix damp longer. When starting seeds, it is just very important to get the seed tray good and wet the first time after you start them, but then monitor them closely and don't over water - if you do the seeds can just rot instead of sprouting, but that first good watering is needed to soften up the seed shells. Sometimes if I have another mix, I will use it on the bottom and then this on TOP of my pots. That still helps keep water in. I've started tons of seeds in this in my greenhouse- they don't have a hard time at all pushing up through it because it's a finer mix than some, and it helps give seedlings the moisture they need so they don't dry out until they get some size and their second leaves. I've not had any problems with weeds coming up in it or anything either, like I have some cheaper brands. Only stuff that comes up is what I plant. The bags are a pretty thick plastic too, and I've never had one arrive busted. Amazon has been putting mine in cardboard to ship too though, so they've been arriving nice and secure. I wish they'd get the 2.5 cubic feet back in stock, it is a bit better yet on the budget.

A good potting soil mix for moisture retention
I like Miracle Grow products in general as they have always worked fine when I have used them in the past. This was the first I had purchased this specific version of Miracle Grow potting soil, having used their basic or cactus lines in the past. Compared to their basic potting soil, this line does retain moisture quite a bit longer. I used this product in planting both new seedlings entirely in this mix and also used some of this soil to supplement soil in older potted plants chipmunks had dug out when scavaging our potted plants kept outside when warm. So far this moisture retaining soil has worked fine as in neither case did the plants require the soil to dry out between waterings. For any plants that do not like the soil on the dry side this soil appears to be a great choice. But if your plants do like their soil on the drier side of things I would not recommend this version of Miracle Grow soil as you might end up with root rot because it does stay so damp. I actually have cut back on my watering routine since using this soil as a result. I honestly am not sure I would purchase this again as their other basic soil line has always worked well in the past.

This is a great potting mix!
The Miracle Grow moisture control potting mix is great for potting plants because of the loam-like consistency. It is loose and easy to spread around. I like the fact that it is NOT filled with wood chips or rocks. It is somewhat moist and the bag should be closed pretty well so it doesn't dry out. The bag size is good since it is not too large or heavy to handle. I have bought it several times before and. recommend it.
