Review: Solid story. Surprisingly touching and Real. - I had to purchase this play for school, and I really ended up enjoying it. I laughed, I almost teared up at a couple points, it kept my interest/attention the entire time, and most importantly-I bought it: I bought the story and the characters. It all was very authentic and well written. It honestly left me wanting more by the end of it. Like...Omari, how you doing now, man?!? I got attached to all of the characters REAL quick—a pretty impressive feat for only 90 pages.

At the Top of Her Class
No one is writing as brilliantly as Morisseau. Her message is important, her language use exquisite, and her skills of construction and development are superb. She is all that!

Superb!
This work by Dominique M. is beautiful and really delved into the topic of the life of young African American men. I even got some goosebumps while reading this.

Interesting and SO powerful!
This story does a great job of telling of the discrimination black students, especially men, face in public spaces. The use of the poem was what hit me most because that is a fear amongst all black parents - "we die soon'. Very nice, extremely powerful, especially the final three pages.

This is so beautiful written and so powerful. The use of the poem throughout, Wow. I love this play, it’s painful that it has to exist but it gives you an insight into experience of Black parents and Black children navigating a system that was designed so that they were never meant to survive.
