Fantastic lantern!
I bought this because I like the ambiance of candles and lanterns. This is a great way of setting the mood. I also wanted it for disaster preparedness. Candles don't go bad if stored properly. Buy a box or two of candles and a Candlelier and you have a dependable light source that should be ready to go for decades. Candles might be more expensive than bulk buy batteries for LED flashlights, but you don't ever have to worry about them going bad. The Candlelier puts out 5000 btus of heat, and tests on Youtube show that in an hour or two it should heat up a small cold space by 10 or 20 degrees depending. I haven't tested this myself, but I believe it. I wanted to try the Candlelier ability to boil small amounts of water. Most disaster preparedness stoves you might keep around like the Trangia alcohol stove or cans of Sterno are not to be used indoors as they emit harmful amounts of carbon monoxide. Now suppose your'e in a rustic cabin and the weather has gone to heck and you don't feel like going outside to cook with your other stove options. It will take a while, but you can cook a meal safely indoors with the Candlelier. I used a TOAKS 750ml titanium pot filled with exactly 2 cups of water, put the lid on, and put it on the Candlelier. In 1 hr 10 min I got the 2 two cups of water to a simmer-boil of about 185 F degrees. This is where lots of barley sized bubbles are coming up, but the water has not come to a 212 F degree rolling boil. There are several states of boiling, but it's important to remember that a temperature of 175 will destroy all active bacteria, yeast, and fungi, and 185 degrees is plenty hot for most cooking needs. I have no doubt the Candlelier can get 2 cups of water in a small pot with a tight fitting lid up to 212 F, but I believe it would take so long as to not be worth it. It's also important to remember that if you want to try boiling water with your Candlelier, you should use a small 750ml class pot with a tight fitting lid. If you leave the lid off, it's never going to boil. If you use a standard cooking pot from the kitchen, it'll probably never boil. And remember, it should get up to an 185 F simmer-boil in an hour or so, but it might take a great deal longer to get up to a 212 F rolling boil. Luckily, for almost all practical purposes, 185 F should work fine. Addendum: My boil test was performed at sea level in a 70 F room. Your mileage will vary depending on altitude and ambient temperature. UCO is a Seattle based company so when they say it will boil water, I believe they mean at sea level. I have no idea how long it would take to boil 2 cups of water at higher elevations. The Candlelier should never be your first choice for cooking in a disaster scenario. However, if you have a Solo Stove, Sterno cans, etc, and don't feel like going outside to use them, and you have time to kill, the Candlelier will step up to the plate, while at the same time putting out a worthwhile amount of light and heat and seriously cheering the place up.

Super nice
Originally I had the single candle version of this Lantern and I loved it. But then I lost it and I decided to get another one I got this to heat up the inside of a tent and my pickup truck camper shell when I was camping inside. This thing puts out a ton of heat. I think that using beeswax candles are better then using paraffin but, if you leave the windows cracked a little bit most of the toxins go out the window. A lot of the heat goes with it but, for chasing the chill out of your sleeping area before going to bed or waking up I think this thing is awesome. It seems to heat up the cabin more than you let out the window so, seems like a 80 20% rating It's very well built and seems very solid. Good design and quality durable materials Beeswax candles would probably be a better alternative to paraffin candles but, they are very expensive and if you live around Bears this will probably attract them Overall I think this is a really nice candle lantern. It produces a lot of flight but I mainly got it for heating

For the most part
I mostly really like the UCO. The spring is a bit weak and doesn't push the candle up very well. This leaves a buildup of wax around the inside tube the candle is placed in. Though the candle burns a good amount of time, I find about 8-9 hours, they are a bit of a pain to get out. Once extinguished the wax around that tube hardens, so before that happens I need to sort of clean that area, for this I use a toothpick and and go around to push the softened wax inward towards the extinguished wick, let it cool and push out to remove. Be careful not to get you fingers in the cut out view of the tube. I've been pinched and bleed twice removing the candle. Disappointed that there is still about an inch of good burning time left on each candle after removing. I'll find use for the nubs of wax that is left but if the spring was stronger to push up the candle it would definitely be less time consuming to change candles and less waste. The candle will continue to burn if you choose, but since the spring doesn't push, the melted wax will flow out the view window cutout. Take note that I choose to have that inch of unused candle. UCO does get pretty hot on the very top so be careful. I myself don't mind, part of the reason I purchased it. It will warm up a small space, not significantly. I've put a pot of water and it does get pretty hot. The removable top does stay cool at the bottom by the candles so easy to remove if needed. The light it gives off is great! The lantern does what I expected. In the 20 days of owning it I hope I passed on a few pointers to others. It's a great emergency lantern in all. The design is ok, but I wish I could use more of the candle. Stronger spring? Shorter tube shaft? I donno. It won't stop me from using it. It wouldn't stop me from purchasing another in the future.

If you like candles you'll like this.
I really like candles. I've had an original UCO candle lantern (single candle) for years. Works great. Now I've leveled up to the three candle version. Worked perfectly for me. Light output nice and mellow. Best for evening cooking, conversation, even web surfing and such. Not like my superbright LED devices which I use for reading and searching for dropped/lost things on the floor. My first test was a night in my A-frame camper which is pretty drafty. The light level is low enough it didn't bother my sleep. It kept the camper above 50 degrees F while it was below 40 F outside. If I'd plug up all the drafts I'd probably get a 10 degree gain. I had no trouble with wax leaking down inside the mechanism. The candles burned cleanly right to the end. I got just short of 10 hours from them. Better than advertised. The top gets VERY hot as you would expect so exercise common sense. It kept a ceramic mug of coffee nice and hot. But be cautious. The whole rig is easy to tip with a mug on top. Be very careful around it. I like the fact that I don't have to carry liquid fuel any more. All my flame devices use propane, butane or solid fuel. No spills. The candles have a shelf life of decades and are easy to store with no mess. I also bought the UCO neoprene cocoon for it. Had to take the bail off to fit in the cocoon properly. Not a problem for me. I don't use the bail - it simply gets too hot to use to lift/move the lantern. I just set the Candeier on a counter or, at night, the floor. Overall, I'm quite happy with it. If you like candle light, I highly recommend it.

Amazing lantern
Wow...superfast delivery. I didn't expect it to get here so fast, but I'm really happy it did. This item is awesome. I ordered the three candle lantern. It's the yellow one and its a pretty nice color. It came loaded with 3 brand new candles, so, I'm testing it out now as I'm typing this review. The white candles that came in the lantern when I bought it, will burn up to 9 hours. The beeswax candles are suppose to burn for up to 12 hours. When lit, this thing throughs off quite a bit of heat. So much heat that if you set it up right, you could actually heat up a cup of hot chocolate on the top of it. It won't actually boil water, but it will heat up hot enough to enjoy that cup of cocoa. Mind you, this is only the second week into January. I set up the review in my half bathroom which is about (6'X7') and 8 feet tall, has no insulation and is right up against the outside wall. You wouldn't want to spend more than 120 seconds in there unless you don't mind freezing something off. Within the first hour of putting the lit lantern in the bathroom, I was actually able to feel the warmth and not have to wear a parka just to wash my hands. Over-all, I am pretty impressed with this candle lantern. Granted it won't heat up an area like a regular heater will, but, it definitely will take the edge off the chill. This is not a sponsored review and I purchased this product on my own.

Highly recommend!
I've wanted this model for years. I was surprised to see that different colors were different prices, so choose carefully if that matters to you. I went right for the cheapest color. This item comes with candles already installed. I lit mine and let them burn all the way down. It took many many hours, wish I had timed it, but I think it was a little longer than promised, which is great. I ordered beeswax replacement candles. I compared prices carefully. NOTE: read the instructions carefully for replacing candles. Do not accidentally throw away the little metal discs that you're supposed to put on the bottom of the replacement candles. Handle gently, the springs are a bit flimsy, they seem easy to bend out of shape or break. I personally think that could be improved. Make sure you place the candles properly, and keep the unit level when the candles are burning so that melting wax doesn't spill over the edges and make a mess. Some wax will adhere to the inside of the cylinders holding the candles. For safe and proper operation, clean this wax out of those cylinders and anywhere else that wax may have gotten. People suggest a number of ways to get the wax out of there. Next time I will try freezing the cylinders, and hopefully the wax will come off easily. Take care not to scratch the inside of the cylinders, or the build-up problem will be worse. Once I got the hang of gently replacing the and cleaning any errant wax, I'm very happy with this item. The three candles do throw a lot of light. The flat top plate gets very hot, so use caution.

Great Addition to the Truck Camper
I camp in the back of my truck with a camper shell. I bought the candlelier and the single candle lantern to help warm up that space in the winter. It does not keep the space toasty warm, but it definitely takes the edge off. I've used them several times this winter and with both of them going at the same time, they typically will keep the inside of the truck bed 20-30 degrees warmer with one person and a 60lb dog in the bed. I use insulated window covers and crack 3 windows. Last night it got down to 33F and inside the truck it was 54F. I have used both the beeswax and paraffin candles. I prefer the beeswax candles, but they are a bit sticky and can be hard to deal with. The paraffin candles are not as sticky and they are easier to get out of their holder, but when first burning them they do have an odor that goes away after a couple minutes. Blowing out the beeswax candles results in A LOT of smoke. I have to hold it out the window for a long time before they will stop smoking and I lose all my heat! The paraffin candles blow out very quickly with minimal smoke. I just blow them out next to the window screen and they are out in less than 10 seconds with minimal smoke, and I get to keep my heat. I love the light that they put off. It is bright enough for me to read a book or play a game. Great product for low budget heating/lighting needs.

Usual Excellent quality from UCO
Great device. However, the "can be used to heat liquids or food" is a bit of a stretch. In 20 minutes, it only warmed the cup, but never brought it near to boiling. And that was with beeswax candles (hotter). I use ONLY pure beeswax candles (from canadacandle dot c0m - I returned to amazon a vurrrrry bad batch of Chinese candles claiming to be pure beeswax but they were NOT - heavily smoking, parrafin allergy asthma problems) . This one has become my main device for power outage (replacing the single-candles units). It could also be used to heat and keep the humidity out of a small tent. They are quite effective (even the single-candle is remarkably effective). I also keep a single-candle UCO unit in my car in case of winter emergency, I have been using UCO candle lanterns since the late seventies - they are timeless and perfect. The only drawback with this model is that the glass window is not retractable like on the single-candle units. I wouldn't carry one backpacking due to volume, but for more static camping, or at the cottage, you cannot go wrong with this unit. Beware though: low cost parrafin in any UCO lantern is asking for BIG trouble. 100% pure beeswax (non-allergic for asthma sufferer, brigher flame) is, in my opinion, the only way to go. They smell much better, cause no asthma allergy, and are brighter.
