Truefree B1 - A Bearded Review
Truefree B1 Review - A Bearded Review A no-nonsense review of the Truefree B1 on-ear headphone First Impression The look of these on-ear earphones is... Interesting. They aren't like your regular IEM (in-ear) or headphones (over-ear). These have speakers that point toward your hear canal but sit on your earlobe. There is absolutely no audio isolation with these. If the volume is high enough, others can hear your audio, albeit, it would not be distinguishable by others, but still, they can hear it. Obviously, if you reduce the volume, you'll still hear the audio without others eavesdropping or being annoyed. Feel I personally like how these feel on the ear. Headphones can feel heavy over time. Earbuds can be a pain in the ear. These just hang like clip-on earrings without the pinch. They have metallic shine on the speaker and touch ends with soft silicone connecting them. I don't see any reason why you couldn't wear these for hours, unless you just don't like the feel. A bonus if you wear glasses or hats, these do not interfere with either. Audio Audio Codec-wise, they only connect with SBC (non-HD) or AAC (HD). These are default BT audio codecs that nearly every audio BT device can connect with. These are not high definition codecs where you won't hear the specific instruments in an orchestra and other audio. With that, they sound decent, loud enough for normal phone calls, listening to music, or listening to audiobooks or whatever you want to listen to. EQ Control The EQ function worked well. While you won't get amazing bass, you do notice it is there and provide nice sound. I've set my EQ to Rock and it sounds good. Phone Calls After making a few phone calls, no issues were evident. No one complained about being about to hear me speak. I could hear them without issue as well. Truefree App Interaction The Truefree app appeared to well with this set. Configuring the touch controls was easy and each touch function worked as you would expect. This is an improvement over some prior Truefree sets I've tested. With that, the touch pad on these is on the rear behind the ear. After getting used to the positioning, no issues with touch controls. My only suggestion is to instead have the touch controls on the inner ear section were the speaker is. Pressing the back of the set, pushing the earlobe moved the set and earlobe. It was fine, just felt uneasy if you aren't being careful. Moving the touch control to the inner part of the set would be more stable as the earlobe provides additional support. Battery Life First opening and using these earphones, they started at about 86% and whilst typing this on my phone and listening to DOOM (2016) OST, Rebel Galaxy OST, making phone calls, and now listening to Brothers of Metal, they are now at about 70% battery life. 15% in about an hour or so isn't too bad. Conclusion I'm a fan of this form factor. They are comfortable without being overbearing, weighing your ears down, and can remain for a long time without pain. They won't fall off if you're banging your head, running, working out, etc. An improvement of the app with the earphones makes this set a reliable and dependable set to choose. If you want audio without the pain of IEMs or the bulk of over-ear headphones, this is a solid choice. In addition to the above, the price is right. Currently, they are $40 on Amazon.

Maybe Good for You, Not So Much For Me
Fundamental issue I have: when I turn my head 35-40deg to the right, the back of the right earclip touches my head. The back of these earclips is where the touch sensor is. When I'm listening to music, this is no big deal (I like single-touch to be volume up/down, but you can choose this in the app), but when I'm on a call this hangs up, and I can't change that touch control in the app. I don't have this issue with the left earclip, and it's me not the earclips, I actually got a replacement for my first pair and the second pair acts exactly the same. Clearly from all of the positive reviews this isn't something that happens to most people. - Sound is reasonably good: a little dim with the Balanced (default) EQ, but with a custom EQ you can add a lot of V and get some decent sounding mid-bass and treble. Not a huge amount of detail, but it's not bad. The lowest frequency slider doesn't really do anything for these earclips, just no low-bass response. No fancy compensation for hearing response at low volumes, so at low volumes, these sound pretty dull; I listen at about 35-40% volume. - Touch response is good, you just have to get used to touching the back of the earclips, behind your ear. - Reasonably comfortable: I can wear these for a couple of hours with no issues, but I always feel them, I never forget they are there. - The app is quite good: a few preset EQs as well as an 8-band custom, an adaptive EQ that comes from a hearing test (that didn't seem to work right for me), complete customization of the touch controls for music, no customization for calls, and a Movie mode (which I assume reduces lag). - Calls were good, no issues with the other person hearing me clearly, but not much reduction of background noise. - Battery life was good: at about 40% volume, at an hour and 15 minutes I hit 83% on the batteries (on both earbuds, consistent battery life), so you should get 7 hours or so of battery life. For a lot of people, these will be a pretty good budget earclip, just not me.

Lightweight, crisp sound, customizable and responsive controls
I have been wearing them all day for over a week and find that they are light and easy to wear all day. I saw this design and wondered how these open-ear clip headphones would feel and sound. I am glad I did, because they are now my favorite open ear headphones. Left and right are marked on each earphone. When I put them on, it took a moment to find how they fit best and then I was very happy to find they are nearly imperceptible to wear. I don’t feel them at all. At the same time they sit securely on each ear! I have worn them while working out and had no problem with them moving at all. The sound quality is fantastic. Still, I could hear ambient noises, so wearing these while running water for dishes or vacuuming made them hard to hear. However, the volume has range! In a quiet setting, I am happy at 20- 30% and have room to spare if surrounding sounds are louder. I get a true 5.5 hours per charge and an easy 3 full charges from the case. The little oval case is about 2.5” long x 2” wide x 1” thick. It is like a rounded skipping stone that easily fits in the palm of the hand. The case recharges quickly using USB-C (a separate USB to USB-C cable comes with the case). I easily synced them with my phone, turned off phone Bluetooth and then quickly synced them with my computer. With Bluetooth on for both, the headphones work with whichever is playing sound. As with many headphones that pair to multiple devices, the one with sound takes over. If I turn off either device Bluetooth or “dual device connection” in the APP, then it will only connect to one at a time. I have just taken a phone call on the headphones and was told I sound very clear. They are IPX4 (meaning they resist water splashes from any direction but not immersion in water or from jets of water) making them suitable for everyday activities, plus workouts and bathing. Further, the app has a setting under More Functions called Drainage Function to blow out any moisture that may have made it into the earphones. In the APP (on my phone, installed, signed in, and paired to the B1 set), I navigated to settings and checked for any Firmware update for the headphones (there was not one). That took only a moment. Then I tried out the different preset equalizers (EQ) and even made a few of my own. There is a wide range for adjustment to sound preference. I also went to a very quiet room and performed the hearing test. This generated a personalized EQ to my terrible hearing (lots of tinnitus). After choosing an EQ, I checked the charge state on each headphone - which can be seen in the APP. Now, about the APP specifically: While the APP is not required for normal headphone use, it does allow updates to the firmware, seeing headphone specific charge state, and personalizing the EQ and touch settings, etc. FYI, when the APP is opened it creates a new instance for itself in Bluetooth settings (mine says “BT8932D”), close the APP and that goes away. The APP allows sending issues to tech support (under Help and Feedback, pressing the avatar at the upper left corner) and also performing Firmware updates (in settings found at the upper right corner), so any little issues that arise in the APP get addressed and the headphones get updates. Once signed in to the APP the first time, it does not need to be done again. Each time the APP is opened, I quickly “Accept” and “Connect Device”. I watched the video in Amazon Qs on how to get to the register screen.( I think after selecting accept, I clicked “forgot” at the bottom and that is where the register option was. Enter email, enter a “letter only” password, click to get a code sent to email. Enter the code in the minute allotted, view the terms again and click Register. Try again if it does nothing. It will work after a few tries.) The APP lets me see the charge level of each earphone. I find this useful when deciding if I should charge them and use a different pair when planning on doing some things. The APP offers many preset EQ to select from as well as offering a customizable and savable EQ option. This makes me VERY happy, and I have been refining my own custom settings to suit my hearing! Game mode and dual device connection and be turned on/off in the APP. There is also a place to customize the touch settings. I love that I can CUSTOMIZE and DISABLE ALL TOUCH CONTROLS here! I have long hair and, when wet, I accidentally stop, play, or turn sound up or down. Disabling touch on demand is the solution. There is also a hearing test to personalize the EQ. This is very cool as it tests hearing sensitivity across a spectrum of sound frequency types in about 2 minutes and used this to generate a personalized EQ setting. I would love to learn more about the tweaks made based on my weird hearing!

Worked well for a few charge cycles, then completely stopped working.
Worked fairly well for voice-centric content like podcasts. I have a few other pairs so I’ve only used these a handful of times. After about 5 charge cycles, they are now completely dead and don’t respond to charging. The case doesn’t light up or anything. No physical damage or misuse, so it’s pretty disappointing for them to fail so soon. Nifty earbuds, but they don’t last.

Compact design. Comfortable fit. Affordable price.
I am very impressed with these earbuds. I want to start off by saying I own more than a few styles of earbuds and Bluetooth headphones. Some expensive, most on the cheaper side ($30-$50 range). I spend a decent amount of time hiking and biking when the weather permits. I feel a lot more comfortable losing or breaking a $30 pair of earbuds as opposed to $100 or $200 pair. The B1s are the first clip style I have ever owned. I was looking for some that had decent sound and fit comfortably enough that I could wear with moderate exercise and movement for at least a couple of hours. The B1 earbuds exceed expectations in those areas. They fit very comfortably with moderate to heavy movement. I don't think I'd wear them playing football, but for trail riding, jogging, and hiking, the B1s stayed in position without being overly tight. Connectivity was a breeze. They paired immediately with my iPhone. No interference or loss of connection, I have had with the more affordable earbuds. I accidently dropped the case a day after receiving the earbuds with no damage. They exceed my expectations in terms of durability and functionality. The sound they produce is more than enough for my needs. I have seen reviews of similar products where people complain about sound quality of the earbud style. The B1s have great sound quality for an earbud style. They are loud enough to eliminate all ambient noise if I want to turn them up and they don't irritate my ears. I honestly think I could have these in my ears for a good chunk of the day without really noticing them. Battery life is also quite good. I have never run out of battery life (most of my uses are 1-3 hours high volume). The last thing I want to highlight with these is the case. With previous styles, I haven't really cared much about the case size. I changed my mind with these. The case is super compact! Just slightly bigger than my key fob. I could keep these in my pocket and forget about them. Very well designed product. The B1s will be my primary music source for a long time.

Very nice sound, feel, and look for the price
I really fell in love with my last pair of truefree earbuds because of how slim the case was and how comfortable they were without the silicone ear inserts most earbuds seem to have. I also strongly prefer to be able to hear my surroundings with earbuds in. These deliver all the same things in a very pretty package - they look like jewelry at first glance. I'm very impressed with how well they stay put, too; I think I'd have to take a few cuffs around the ears to knock them out. I never liked the over-ear hook style because I wear glasses, but these are super duper comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as my last pair of earbuds, although I do have to turn the volume up about 2-3 notches to be equivalent because these don't go quite as deep into the ear. That tradeoff makes them more comfortable for my small ears, though; even my last pair of earbuds, which were the most comfy I'd found so far, made my ears ache a little after 3-4 hours. These do not! Not big on having to install apps to use a device, so I'm glad the app is optional. I did install it and play around with it for a while though, and I love, love, love that I can remap the touch controls. Changed it to let me go to a previous song/lower volume with the left bud, and skip/increase volume with the right, just like my old ear buds. I do wish the charging port were on the side of the device rather than the backside, although that's probably being picky- my old earbuds just fit my charging dock better. Total nitpick. Still love my last pair too much to get rid of them, but they'll probably be my backup pair now. Given that they've lasted 3 years and the batteries are still holding a charge very well, I expect these ones will last a long time, too.

Ok, not so great
Updated Review: Sound Quality: Good when working, with clear audio and decent bass. Reliability: Initially had major issues (left/right earbud sync problems, frequent disconnections). The seller stood behind their product and sent a replacement set, which has been working for over two weeks. However, minor connectivity issues persist, occasional left/right earbud desync and inconsistent volume balance. Seller Support: Responsive and resolved the issue by replacing the defective unit, which deserves praise. However, they actively push for review updates (including WhatsApp messages), which feels intrusive. While their customer service is commendable, the pressure to modify feedback is unprofessional. Pros: Good sound, seller honors warranties. Cons: Occasional earbud disconnect issues, inconsistent volume, and aggressive follow-up for reviews. Would recommend cautiously, if the seller improves product consistency and respects buyer privacy, this could be a 4 star product.

Great Moderately Priced Multipoint EarBuds!
Very Comfortable! They stay in place and don't move at all. They don't go all the way in your ear, so you can still hear your surroundings perfectly! The sound is fine, they connect to two devices perfectly. I have my personal android and work iphone connected at the same time. They both control the volume levels independently. The touch controls will take some getting use to. I'm not 100% sure where the touch area is (I'm sure the directions explain it). The only con I have found is with the touch controls. When I move my head the earbuds touch my neck behind my ear (my ears are pinned back, if yours stick out a bit you'll probably be fine) and trigger my google assistant; Gemini is often performing searches for my random conversations. You can disable the controls on one side or both. You can also assign 3 separate actions to each earbud (6 total - 3 on the left & 3 on the right) single tap, double tap, and hold the "button". Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. I cannot comment on their longevity as I recently purchased them.

Preis/Leistung einfach Top
Also ne volle Kaufempfehlung.

Disappointing
In general, they are nice and comfortable to wear. But unfortunately, after just a few months' use, the sound is much lower in one earbud than the other so they are impossible to use together :(

Comodos y Ligeros
