Long battery life and lots of apps make this a winner
So I’m writing this review about 1 year after I purchased this watch. I read reviews of people who just bought or had it for a month or two, so I decided to wait to give an opinion after much use. I bought the watch because I wanted to keep track of my sleep and activity, but I also wanted an analog watch, I was looking for the best of both worlds. And I wanted the watch to be nice looking. So, about the watch. It’s a nice watch, kinda sporty looking which was ok. It took a little bit to figure out how to do things as it did not come with a manual. But once I figured out what app I needed to download I was set to go. The app offers different faces and different setups where you can display what information you want. It also offers some other “things” like sports scores and such, but I was not able to figure that out and quite understand what to do or anything like that. That’s ok, those are not things I need. I have several other Citizen watches which I love. This watch is no different. I wear this for work, I wear it almost every day, so it gets used a lot. The battery life was quite surprising as right out of the box it was lasting 20-21 days. The charge only takes an hour or two, so I could charge it at night after work. A year later and it’s not lasting quite as long, but still a decent amount of time. I just charged it and will come back and update how long the battery is lasting now, as I forgot to check before writing this review. So far, the rubber strap is great. I would recommend taking it off a few hours a day as the rubber may affect your skin underneath over time. The last thing I would recommend is a screen protector. I tend to just go about my day, without much thought. Bumps and bruises which I have no idea where they came from are a daily occurrence. Knowing this, I purchased screen protectors and I’m glad I did as I’ve gone through quite a few already. I’m not too sure how well the screen would have held up otherwise. As of now, the watch looks almost brand new a year later. Overall I’m very happy with the style, functions and quality of this watch. If you’re in the market for an analog watch with some smart mixed in, I highly recommend this watch. Citizen always makes quality watches and this one is no different.

A decent watch with minimal smart features
Update: I'll give this an extra star for the customer service that I received from Citizen USA. I really wanted the silicone band because I've been wearing the watch in more active situations so I contacted Citizen USA through their website and the response was very quick. The price for the silicone band by itself is pretty steep, but shipping was quick because I'm local and the customer service response was on point. I bought this watch because I was looking for a good watch with minimal smart features from a reputable watch brand. I don't use any other features like step counting or health features. I was literally just looking for a handful of notifications without breaking the bank and this watch fits the bill nicely. I gave up on smartwatches a few years ago, but I still wanted the ability to receive notifications on my wrist without pulling out my phone every 5 seconds and this works pretty well. I have this paired up with my Samsung Z Fold 3 and the app works fine, notifications work fine, disconnects when I move out of Bluetooth range and reconnects when I come back. The battery life is awesome. I can go more than two weeks without plugging this into the charger. Which is one less thing that I have to worry about keeping charged up at the end of the day. The screen is basically an E-Ink display, so it flashes to refresh whenever you scroll through the menus but it's responsive and not that bad once you get used to it. If you use e-readers like the Kindle or Nook then you're already used to it. It's a pretty big watch, which isn't a big deal for me. I like slightly larger watches. The photo I took compares this to my G-Shock Rangemaster and the two watches actually wear pretty similarly. Overall, this is a great watch if you're looking for an older model that you can pickup at a lower price and are only looking for the most basic smart features from a well known watch brand.

Totally high quality but not waterproof
I am a watch nerd. I have plenty of smart watches. I like the hybrids because the battery lasts. My eyesight is not the greatest and the other watch that I have lasts well but I can't see the messages or the time well at all. So I bought this one not sure what to expect but it is a citizen so I expected high quality. They did not disappoint me at all. Of all of my watches it is absolutely my favorite. I could see the analog time and date and day of the week very easily. And what a message comes in I can see that easily. At night if I tap it twice the light comes on and I can see both the time and the messages really easily. So thank you for making such a wonderful watch citizen Addition... I sure wish that this watch was waterproof. I like wearing my watch all the time including when I take a shower. This is only splash proof and it cannot take being in the shower. Bummer

Great smart watch and easy to set up
I liked that my preferred watch maker finally offered a smart/fitness watch that feels and looks great. It paired with my Samsung S20 super fast and the app allows me to track a fair variety of fitness and health items. Heart rate, steps, workout times, calories burned, etc. I can easily go a week between charging, but haven't tested the true battery life yet. With my usage, a week takes me from 100% charge down to around 65% remaining. Based on that, I could probably go two weeks between each charging session. Charger links to the watch with a magnetic guide to ensure correct positioning. Multiple watch faces are available with additional functions based on your preference. I am very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it for anyone that is not worried about have a specifically branded smartwatch that could cost much more for the same use and functionality.

Underwhelming is a compliment
Where do I begin. I've been a Citizen fan for many years and own 5 traditional watches including a 2000 Stars and Stripes commerative edition that I bought new in 2001; as well as a Citizen Chronomaster 500m Chronometer. While shopping for a smartwatch I came across this one. It did not have all the features I would have liked (contact less pay, so2 monitoring) but the potential battery life was a big selling point and justified the premium over other watches with similar features. Unboxing was fine, everything looked as expected. My first disappointment was reading the warning on the first pamphlet, stating that the watch was barely even water resistant, much less waterproof! How is that a thing at all, much less from a "dive inspired" watch? That alone was a deal breaker but, I had charged it up so I thought I'd might as well give it a try. Setup and pairing was straightforward and painless. Immediately I noticed that the pedometer showed I had taken 42 steps, after walking <1m (~3'). Also, even though the watch had been on the supplied charger for at least 4hrs, battery life was only at 72%. Proprietary Citizen software (mobile app) is woefully limited. The watch is absolutely useless in the dark, period. The hands don't even luminesce so it is literally unreadable if not in good lighting. There's likely more but there couldn't possibly be redeeming qualities for me at this point so I will be looking forward to returning this disappointment.

Traditional analog watch with health tracking features
What makes this watch unique is the combination of traditional analog minute/hour hands with the background being a low power monochrome display. This "hybrid" combination packs a lot of activity information that can be displayed in a number of different face formats. The always-on low power monochrome display is what gives the battery 2 week+ longevity. The CZ watch is tied via Bluetooth to your cell phone. The connection has been rock-solid with my Google 6a phone, better than my Fitbit. The step accuracy and calorie figure are undercounting the Fitbit. However, the sleep recording is more accurate than my Fitbit. The Citizen CZ App is less glitzy than what Fitbit offers, but sufficient for basic use. When you first take the watch out of the box and connect it to a charger (not supplied), it will search for your Bluetooth and start downloading to update the software. Keep your phone close by! I made the mistake of leaving the room with my phone which interrupted the download. After that it wouldn't connect properly. I had to clear the memory and reboot the watch to get it to function properly. A nice touch is that the CZ has phosphor luminous dots around the face and on minute/hour hands. If you have good night vision, the green glow is visible all night. For backup, a double tap on the face and it will light up 4 LEDs for 4 seconds. Not adjustable that I can find. The CZ is an analog watch, you have to use the push buttons to go through the menus which is different than swiping through the menus on a Fitbit. Some may find this cumbersome. But that is the charm of an analog watch, the time display and icons are always on and can be read in bright sunlight. The minute and hour hands move independently. For example, for the heart-beat measurement, both hands line up together and tick through 2 rotations to get a pulse reading which is then digitally displayed. I have enjoyed this watch and recommend it to anyone who appreciates the mechanical nature of a traditional analog watch. By the way, the comments on how good this watch looks are true!

Maybe a generation away (or two) from being great
I own both classic watches and few smart watches. I feel like both sides do many things well, but not all. The classic watch does what it was meant to do, tell time in fashionable manner. Yet, when you give a smart watch a chance, you learn to embrace notifications, app control and fitness, but at the cost of charging every day or other day. Here comes Citizen, with a watch first that has smart features. I was intrigued and totally game to give this a try. The watch [for me at least] was a bit on the small side and heavy too. Usually that kind of weight you attribute to a much larger watch. It looked kind of small on my wrists, but I a tall guy. The watch charged relatively quickly too [under 2 hrs.]. As a watch, it's the pedigree and classic approach you would expect of Citizen watch. Where I saw cracks in the presentations comes when it attempts to be a smart watch. The app is super easy to install and figure out. Where I had issues was the visibility of the watch. You cannot [at the time of this review] change the menu background colors. I would have preferred lighter colors which would have made way easier to read then exclusively black backgrounds. I wear glasses, but my eyesight is not too bad. I am able to read my Samsung Smartwatch with no issues and this CZ watch share the same screen dimensions too. I also noticed a lag in response time whenever you would press the navigation buttons or selection button. I updated the firmware, but still noticed this happening. I would let's say select music player, and by the time the watch caught up it would open some entirely different which was annoying. The pedometer is not very accurate and the fitness options are way limited. It was just too many things to ignore for me to keep this watch. The lack of customization and readability was definitely the last straw. What good is watch you can't read properly. I would say, Citizen, don't give up on this hybrid idea. However, take your time to develop the software and add the necessary features that will help blind the divide among watch and smart watch. I hope this review helps!

everybody loves this watch
too many compliments to count; great looking watch and everyone's impressed that it's a smart watch. if you like the analog look but like to count steps, track workouts, and receive texts-- this is the watch for you. it's heavy duty but not heavy; it's smart but not a rotten apple; it's even water resistant so washing hands and swimming is a non-issue. if I had to pick one con, i would say get rid of the adds on the mobile app or at least put those in the background; make my personal info more forward facing (data, stats, etc.). that said, my next watch will be THIS watch.

Loving it
Great blend of style and functionality! I love how it combines traditional watch design with smart features like fitness tracking and notifications. The battery life is amazing - lasts about 2 weeks on a single charge. Easy to use and set up too. The 44mm size is perfect for my wrist. Only gripe is the stock silicone strap, which isn't the most comfortable - definitely recommend swapping it out for a different band. Highly recommend the watch itself, though!

Excelent battery life and amazing e-ink display, Just Citizen!!
It is the best smart watch I have ever had. To start: Citizen precision and quality. The screen is a good grayscale e-ink. You can customize the faces with your PC. You can choose the information displayed on the screen, steps, calories, day and date, temperature, battery level. The water resistance is a bit bad, it only withstands splashes, you can't swim with the watch. Now Just a request for the Citizen Company. Please is there a way to put the seconds on the screen?
