Review: the journey continues - typically great gu. some recent gu releases have come in for some stick. when you buy a gu release, you show trust... trust that you will be given a slice of music that will stand the test of time & will grow on you big time. i remember listening to cape town by dave seaman being totally blown away... a cd that being totally honest changed my musical preferences. summing up a great cd from an amazing series. Hot on the heels of excellence, this is mundane
If Nick Warren hadn't had already put out one of the best of the GU series prior to this release (GU035 Lima), the casual listener might be enamoured by the spikey razzmatazz of Emerson's particular flavour of mixing. But when you've heard better you know better, and although this is all good stuff and well worth a place in anyone's collection, it's not all that amazing.....the journey is missing, the beginning, the middle and the end, it's just a jumble of tracks he's popped together in no real order to create some kind of play narrative. A few high points are spread out on a meadow of pretty mundane music.

Another excellent GU
Not a whole lot to say, great DJ produces another great addition to the GU series. Fans of GU or the man himself will not be disappointed.

Where would we be without global underground
Excellent mixes on both cds, up there with the best gu and i have all of them. I cant understand the reviewer who gave 3 stars and said it was a let down, he either doesnt like house and techno or else he works for a rival record label. The reality is the legend darren emerson delivers another top mix for the best label around. The quality of this mix lies in the fact that it doesnt try to be fancy or uber cool, its straight up house and techno designed to get u moving and after all thats what its all about. Its full of jackin house and techno without being too heavy. This just shows that house and techno is alive and well even with the large amount of cheese that is so often released from other labels and artists. I love all emersons stuff but i have to say i dont know what id do if global underground stopped releasing these mixes. keep up the good work for all the real fans of house and techno.

Emerson nails it.
This mix is absolutely spot on. In contrast to many of the GU mixes, there's no messing around with pretentious warm up tracks and Emerson cuts to the chase with his characteristic blend of techno and house. It doesn't try too hard and it sounds effortlessly cool. To start and finish with one of Underworld's finest is a nice touch, although the early stand out favourite track may well be Emerson's own "Crash Jack". In summary, an excellent mix, definitely one of GU's best, in what has been a return to form of late. Keep them coming.

Global Underground Back to its Best!!!!
Pre-ordered this from another online retailer and received it today (6th feb). Stuck it straight in the stereo and was instantly blown back to the hay days of GU, quality music for dancing too rather than a pretentious mix of tunes that fail to impress!! (Obviously this excludes Nick Warren who's releases remain solid across the decade) This is a cracking CD with a great track selection and excellent mixing throughout. Buy this CD if you're looking for jacking techno and quality underground house that was made for dancing too!!

Great peaktime mix
Fantastic mix from Emerson, I think i've listened to it about 20 times and am still not sick of it. The whole set just builds steadily from prog to tech house through to some sick, twisted acid. Takes me back a few years. Top marks :)

Interesting career move
I know Darren Emerson for his crunching techno in mid-90's Underworld. Man, that was great stuff. I've always puzzled over him leaving the band--didn't seem to me to be a career-enhancing move. He's had mixed success as a DJ and producer; he's not even cracking the Top 100 DJ poll. You'd think he would. This is a decent mix. I'm not really a house guy, and I'm not going to get in the weeds on his track programming, but I will say that it is thoughtful and vibrant and has some really spectacular mixes. Take a break from all those silly trance compilations and relax and listen to some Darren Emerson.
