They are not I have a pair and have a nice allergic reaction to the clasps to show for it

How short can you possibly make them? i am very short and small

I've checked for you as follows: Shortening as far as possible (without cutting and removing!) Gives a front clip to back clip measurement of 31 inches(79cm)so try with some string before you buy.

Can these be worn underneath a shirt?

As long as you don't want to tuck the shirt in I would think that you could. Unless the shirt was very baggy I would imagine that the shape of the braces would show through tho'.

Can the braces be washed in a washing machine

Probably NOT--I would doubt it very much. Reason being: there is a leather patch with padding at the back which would probably disintegrate if you washed them in a washing machine. Much better to hand wipe stains off with a damp cloth. I don't actually know-you would be better to contact the manufacturer. I have checked & there is no label about washing.
