PlayStation 3 40GB
The PlayStation 3 40GB is a very good console. I would highly reccomand it to anyone in need for a cheap, fully-functional PlayStation 3. I had purchased this for $200.00, and have not regretted it since. It features a user-replaceable hard-drive, bult-in Wi-Fi, touch-sensitive buttons (which are a bit annoying, I must admit), and full PlayStation Backwards compatibilty (Original Only). Also, It has an HDMI port and 2 USB ports, but no memory card slots. As well, this is a fatty version of it, so please be aware of the dust it collects, because it can be a little alarming at times. It is lightweight, and much lighter than the 60GB, and does not overheat as much. The finish in front of the disc tray is not chrome, but more of a dark silver scheme, in which the "Spider-Man" writing is done in as well. It also has a built in ethernet and a digital sound port for attatching stereo speakers. Also, the power supply is internal, so there is not huge brick, unlike the XBOX 360. It just uses a standard computer plug, commonly found on most desktop computers. As well, you can use any set of PlayStation AV cables, so you can use them if you have a PlayStation 2 or Original. It also features a built-in web-browser, in which is one of my favorite features. It can also read Blu-Rays, DVD's, CD's, Original PlayStation games, and of course, PlayStation 3 games. Also, there is a very useful BlueTooth connection, on which is very solid and never disconnects, unlike the XBOX 360's 2.4GHz connection, in which in my opinion, is not very good. It will detect any BlueTooth devices, so it does not have to be marked with the SONY logo. With all of this being said, this model of the PlayStation 3 is very good, and for the price, it's one of the best on the market.

An incredible system (from an xbox owner)
First let me say that my previous console system is an xbox (the original one). I've never owned another playstation before this one... so i'm not a sony fanboy. I actually argues against the PS3 with a friend for months because I was simply not a fan of Sony products and figures this was just another over-priced, under impressive peice of.... well, you get what I mean. The Playstation 3 (PS3), while more expesive than other consoles is actually the best value of them all... let me explain. INTENET ACCESS: The PS3 includes a built-in wifi adapter. For the Wii and the XBox 360 you must purchase a wifi adapter as an add-on. Online gaming via the Playstation Network (PSN) is included with the PS3 for free. With the XBox you must purchase a subscription to the xbox live service. I think the Wii also includes free access, but I'm not certain of that. HIGH DEFINITION VIDEOS: The PS3 includes a built in blue-ray disc player (stand-alone blue-ray players *start* at about $300 for the cheapest models). The xbox 360 does have HD-DVD available as an addon, but that's going to cost you another $200. Th Wii does not have an option for High-Definition movies. STREAMING MEDIA: I'm not too familiar with the abilities of the 360 to stream media, I think the 360 and PS3 are actually fairly similar on this point. GAMING: This is where you're going to get into varying opinions... I'm not going to get too much into this except to say that all 3 new consoles have their strengths and weaknesses... but they're all great game machines... so for me, the gaming decision came down to the systems that had the type of games I like to play (PS3 and 360) and the TOTAL cost of the system. That pointed me directly to the PS3. I hope this helps someone and thanks for reading.

disapointed in many ways
I have a hard time recamending this system. First off I,ve only brought about 5 games for my ps3 2 of witch I never played. between the other 3 Hevenly sword, folklore, and valkyria I dought I have 100 gaming hours on my disc drive. and its already failed. It no longer spins. I have only watched 2 blue rays and 1 dvd (twice). Thats not acceptable. thus the 1 star I barrly used it since I,m always on my xbox core system. first gen. release, and yes 30 plus games latter 100+ hours just on soul calibur its still woking fine. Things i didn't like about my ps3 b4 it broke. 6 axis control playstaion network and store. (adopted xbox first and even tho free psn cant even be compaierd to the quallity of xbox live) xbox live is definatly the better choice for social gaming. few exlusive titles of intrest. I brought mine for FF13 and blue-ray and ended up bying FF13 for xbox after sony lost the excusive The trophies. copies of achivments on xbox aren't as easy to view and didn't catch my intrest. Things i did like. The playstaion controller has a better d pad. The blue ray was able to play a dvd that skipped on all my dvd players the day it came out of box ( the burn looked wavy think it was skipping during burn). Exlusive games like hevenly sword almost made it worth bying. The blue-ray ps3 at the time was cheaper then blue-ray players. but alass that is the part that failed in 100 hours. In all its not a bad system its getting to point were its got the games. but the 40 and 60 gig modles have hardware problems. If you havn't injoyed xbox live you wount know what your missing on psn, but if you get a ps3 get the new slim or 80 gig. they seem to not have the blue-ray lazer and moter fail problems.

Pretty good ps3 to be a used item. But it ylod on me about two month after i bought it.
Bought this ps3 cause every other one that was bran new was just to high for my price rang so i just went ahead and bought a used on. Not like a new one, shows some signs of use like some small scratches but that's not to much of a problem for me. I haven't fully used the system yet cause it didn't come with a remote that`s the only thing i didn't like about this order if they would have added in a remote i would have been much more happier. So i had to order a remote and wait a few more days before i can play the ps3. But other then that it came with power cable and video cable. when i get my remote and try it out ill add to this review. They packed it up well with bobble rap didn't think i would ever get it unwrapped had to fine a sharper knife. Updated Review Well i used the PS3 for about two month i finished playing a game one day and went to put in a disk bam it shut off and i got the ylod. I have yet tried to fix it thinking about sending it on back to the seller and just getting my money back and just save it up to get a brand new one. I like the fat version of the ps3 a little better then the new slim ones why i don't know just do.

Device works as stated (almost) completely
I bought this ps3 believing it was the original model with the extra ports for ps2 support but was sadly mistaken when I took it out of the box and was even more disappointed by the supplied remote. Despite all that the device was dirty but still intact box and all and fully functional, ended up using a ps5 remote I had lying around to work on it instead but FYI do look into a replacement controller for yourselves.

Gaming Plus Bluray DVD Equals A Great Value
I purchased the Playstation 3 primarily as a replacement for my HD-DVD player. I already owned an Xbox 360, but there was no question that the PS3 was a great deal when you look at buying a Bluray player. It's like buying a DVD player and getting a gaming system for free! So, being a gamer I also bought a few used games to try out as well. I have been very happy with the system, and I do like some of the features Sony has built in such as the wireless connectivity right out of the box. I went ahead and updated the system to the newest firmware as soon as it was hooked up. That is a HUGE benefit for any device, but especially a Bluray Player since they will continue to add features, etc... I was never a "fanboy" of the 360, but I had owned an original Xbox (no issues for me!) and then bought an Xbox 360 (RROD on the first one - replaced free). I have noticed now that I am buying new games on the PS3 platform instead of the 360. I am now thinking that since most games come out on both systems, I can get rid of my 360 and save some space and make few hundred dollars as well. So, I have found the Playstation3 makes me happy as both a movie buff and a gamer, and I can't ask for much more than, so if you are looking for a bluray player, the PS3 is a great buy, and if you are looking for a gaming system, the PS3 is a great buy. I think that about sums it up :-)

It's all about what you can do with it
I'm cheap so I got this 40GB one and of course because I game too much I ran into that storage problem, too many games and not enough sapce. Awesome is that I'm not exactly the most techy person out there, obviously or I'd be gaming on my computer rather than a consoles because really no matter what you say about consoles they're never going to live up to computers. First thing PSN is still free and guess what I can stream netflix on my PS3 without paying 50 bucks a year, yeah still a win for me. Also so the 320GB one is still about 350. Yeah so I got this for 200 and then 50 bucks for a 320gb SATA HDD drive, followed the instructions in the PS3 manual (really is pretty easy and there are vids and diagrams all over the web) now I got mad space and still cheap. I did finally buy a Xbox 360 and I still have one game for it. it's not that I don't like it, just that I haven't found the value in it yet. Infamous, Uncharted and I know borderlands is out for both, but when Amazon has a buy 2 get one free deal and I can only find one game i remotely want with Xbox i have to go to PS. I think I have the xbox as more of a just incase, like if something happens to my ps3 i can play that in the mean time until i get a new one. Don't get me wrong, Microsoft has some decent titles. But i'm not about to be nickled and dimed to death. seriously surprised they haven't starting charging per conversation.

Think Twice Before Buying
My son likes this console & the fact that you can play online for free. However, I just spent $150 having my son's PS3 laser & disc tracking repaired after a little over a year. I didn't send it out, I had it repaired here in town. It was nice that the repair only took 24 hours. This way I got my same console back, & that's a good thing because I know how this PS3 has been treated. I bought this Sony product after reading all the terrible Xbox reviews. In the end it didn't make any difference which brand I bought. I mistakenly thought that Sony's PS3 would be a better product failure wise, but I was wrong. This machine was used lightly NOT 24/7 as some do. Ok, so that's $150 for this repair. Rest assured it'll be the only repair because if it fails again, this PS3 goes in the trash!
