8BITDO Retro 87-Key Wireless RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Xbox Edition

A pretty incredible package! It looks gorgeous and so unique, sounds beautiful (loud though, wouldn't use anywhere but at home), and feels great with tactile clicky switches. I love the aesthetics; I mean you really don't see many keyboards on the market like this. This is a great deal too, a beautiful, well built, and lovingly designed keyboard, plus a matching macro pad, and a month of gamepass is truly stellar. Really the only slight criticism from me would be regarding the software. It's just not as-well designed compared to other keyboard softwares I've used and additionally lacks enough customization for me. I'd love to see more color modes in general. Plus, many of the basic modes such as 'color wave', 'ripple', and 'cycle' don't even allow you to select your own colors, which is most definitely simple to implement.

I love the keyboard. The battery is good, the rgb is nice but not necessarily needed. The wireless connection is fast, and the provided dongle has done a great job thus far. My problem with the keyboard is with the switches it comes with. In the past I have used brown switches, and while the switches used in this keyboard by default are tactile switches, they are very loud and there must be something about the actuation force that I could not get used it. I swapped them out for gateron red switches and now I am fully satisfied with the keyboard. Like I said this is personal opinion. Maybe something to be aware of if you are picky like me. I love the aesthetic and I do get a kick out of the macro buttons. I was able to use the software to set up a surrender macro of League of Legends. It's not something I use all the time, but I do get a kick out of it when I get to use it.

great keyboard for your OG Xbox Themed PC setup! the only thing i wish was different, is the lettering on the keys was black or the keys were less see through. as its hard for me to see at times what key im looking at with the RGB lights on no matter the color or brightness, especially at certain angles or quick glances to make sure im on the right keys(mostly in gaming). so i just leave it off or use the mode that illuminates the key you just pressed. i like that you can use it as a true wired keyboard in the off mode, or 2.4 wireless. Bluetooth is a nice added connection option for those who would use it too. Clear plastics on electronics is making a comeback! and im here for it.

Very nice quality keyboard with an awesome design. Pairs nicely with the xbox themed mouse. Can be connected via Bluetooth or wired as well as some nice lighting features that are customizable. Does not have a numberic keypad which is a bit sad, but I can live without. Very clicky buttons.

I'm giving this 4 stars because of the software. It's buggy for sure, once it gets a decent update this keyboard will easily be a 5. If you have the board hard wired it doesn't seem to function with the software and you aren't able to adjust the brightness, RGB pattern or colors using the on board buttons. But if the board is in the 2.4G mode it works perfectly with eveything. The software itself works and the on board features all function as intended. Why is it different based on connection? The board looks good and feels good, I will be switching out the switches because they're too loud for my liking but functions great regardless, if you like clicky switches you're good to go lol I love the keycaps and the super buttons are cool too! I just can't seem to set a FN shortcut to them, not sure if that's a bug or intentional. Awesome design overall.

I’ll be the first to admit. I was HYPED when I say this for pre-order. But I waited to see what the reviews said before I bought it. I knew 8bitdo was a quality company from others but I’ve never owned a device from them. I also bought the halo edition Xbox ON RELEASE so I really wanted this thing to be good. The reviews were poor in the beginning. Most were about the software being trash and the rgb not working or being stuck on the brightest setting which washed out the letters making them unreadable. I felt this couldn’t possibly be true and that there had to be something missing. So… going against the reviews I bought one. Here is my journey: Upon opening, this thing was built rock solid and sounds excellent although I had to get used to having a loud keyboard because I’ve had quiet keyboards for at least 20 years now. The box and cable were all high quality too. When I plugged it in, I had the issue where the rgb wouldn’t work when following the directions. I had to go to the website to find the software because it wasn’t really obvious. When I downloaded it, I still didn’t have rgb. I believe I then went into windows settings for rgb control and it said I had to have firmware v1.5 to run it but my firmware was at 1.3. I am writing the all from memory two weeks later so the exact version may or may not be correct. After hitting update firmware, I was told 1.3 was the latest available. So I decided to give it a nights rest. Next day, I opened the software and 1.5 was available to update and once I did, everything worked as advertised! The rgb settings are great and allow lots of customization. The analog volume button is ok. It will go down many times when winding clockwise. The signal switcher is great when cabled. The Bluetooth works fine although it will lose connection sometime to my pc, but this may be on my end because it’s had some notorious Bluetooth problem. I haven’t tested the 2.4ghz dongle but it’s been a reliable option over many years so I assume it works as expected. Hopefully this balances out the large number of negative reviews early on and helps others get a great keyboard.

Great keyboard, very retro and I love the Xbox theming. Switches are a bit loud, but feel wonderful. I have no use for the bigger accessory buttons the keyboard came with, but they were a cool addition. Looks great on my desk!

Design molto bello ma se si è abituati o si vuole una tastiera da gaming più reattiva e silenziosa la sconsiglio. Il travel o detto distanza di attuazione dei tasti è un po lunga essendo una tastiera meccanica e il click sono eccessivamente rimorsi tanto da sentirli mentre si indossano cuffie. Se questi fatti riscontrati da me non danno fastidio allora la consiglio per il sopratutto per la qualità prezzo ottima

This keyboard matches the equivalent mouse perfectly, and looks great on the desk. The keys are nicely spaced and the gradient is super smooth as you move up the rows. Key presses are a great weight and mistyping is very rare unless its through lack of touch typing skill (which I lack in highly!) The switches are clicky but much quieter than your average blue, I have no issues with keypresses coming through over microphones in calls and find the typing to be very enjoyable and non-tiring. Gaming on this is also a treat, it feels super responsive and 'just so'. It's a shame they don't do this in ISO-UK layout but i found switching over to be totally instinctual and haven't lost any functionality (you can use Windows built in keyboard mapper if you need to mix the US layout with some added UK symbols, but I found leaving my PC in UK mode and just adjusting my muscle memory to work perfectly, but I don't use many backslashes) RGB is very customisable and shines through with a nice tint, although you can still tweak colours to get the exact one you're after. I haven't used the super buttons much but they do feel satisfying to press and no doubt would make great macro keys for stuff you use regularly. The XBOX button also works perfectly for bringing up the overlay and it's overall a great experience. Bluetooth works well with no noticeable latency and they 2.4ghz mode with receiver works perfectly, and it wakes up and connects almost instantly. It comes with a lovely matching clear green cable to connect wired or charge it, but you won't need it much as you get weeks of battery life with regular use, even with the rgb lights enabled. Highly recommended if you like the aesthetic and dont mind ANSI layout

This keyboard is awesome!!!! Nostalgic xbox vibes, pity the pads don't light up but thats hardly worth mentioning.
