Simple, low cost, and fairly rugged as a point of use watering controller!
I love these controllers - I have 3 covering different landscaping needs for my front, side, and back yards! They’re simple to use and have been more rugged than expected for point of use watering needs! I install them with pvc unions to make them replaceable (if required) but after 2 years they still perform flawlessly!!

Good product, constructed well
Product held up well for the price. It lasted 6 years in the Arizona sun. Never failed till it started to leak. Bought another one. Battery lasts about a season.

Perfect performance for 2 years THEN TOTAL FAILURE--ADDENDUM!
I purchased model 62061N in May of 2018. It performed flawlessly during the summers of 2018 and 2019 here in the Boston area. This spring--2020--it started the growing season flawlessly as well, but its electronics failed in July, 2020. The symptoms included total loss of the display (except for momentary display of all segment when the batteries were fresh and the RESET button was pushed) and absence of response when the function dial was turned or the 3 buttons were pushed. A search of the Amazon site for warranty information failed because the warranty PDF was "corrupt." The Orbit website specified the warranty period is only 1 year and has made communications difficult so far. A Google search for help/experiences/ideas from others addressed other problems with the unit--though one utube video had the owner smahing the unit to bits! Total disassembly showed no corrosion or water damage with all parts appearing perfect. (Recall that the screen also displayed all segments on RESET.) My only recourse--because I NEED a watering timer--is to change brands and hope for the best. A little research yielded an email address for Orbit. I wrote the company with all the detail I could muster and almost immediately received a courteous--and very HUMAN--response. The customer service rep asked a few questions then referred me to a supervisor who then wrote me to say: 1)he was authorizing the shipment of the closest current model of the broken watering timer, and 2) he asked that I return the TOTALLY DISASSEMBLED broken unit in a pre-paid envelope that would be included with the replacement unit. I don't think that customer service can get much better than that, so I've raised my rating to 5 stars. One more thing: I ordered a new watering timer branded Rain Bird 1ZEHTMR, after examining many pictures online. I was looking for a unit that did NOT have the same internal workings, since I had earlier judged them to be problematic. The Rain Bird I ordered has a different external PHYSICAL appearance, but when I received it, on 8/10/20, I realized that it is virtually the same as the broken Orbit unit INTERNALLY.

All timers are annoying
Listen up. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on times. No joke. Ive tried them all. Professional ones. Industrial ones. Temu. Local hardware. Lowe’s. Home Depot. Rain bird. Blah blah blah. They are all terrible imo. But these seem to be the less annoying. I get about three seasons on average before they either stop working or they don’t shut off. That’s kinda scary. Leave for the weekend and come home and your garden has been flooded with water for 5 days. So, tldr, these are the lesser of the evils and when on sale somewhat most economical.

Stopped working after 2.5 months while I was away on a trip and almost killed all my plants.
It was great until it stopped operating the valve. All the program settings were still there but it just wouldn't turn the valve. It displayed a low battery indicator, despite only having run once a day for 2.5 months. I replaced the batteries. The battery compartment had water in it despite appearing to be well sealed. The battery indicator was still low and it still would not operate the valve. I was depending on this to water my plants while I was away and my plants were near death when I returned. Some were dead while others were shriveled but still green and may or may not recover. I looked up Orbit's warranty. They have a website with a chat bot that takes down your information and then says it's sending a gift card to your phone with a code for a new one at the Orbit website. The gift card number it sent was "None" and it did not work to purchase anything. I tried to talk to the chat bot again but it had vanished. I reloaded the page and went through the same thing again, then complained to the chatbot but it did not respond after saying it was sending me a gift card. Not sure I want another garbage timer that's going to kill my plants while I'm away. In short, get this timer if you want to invest years into grafting and growing your own plants only to have them killed when you go on a trip because the irrigation timer failed. I added a photo of one of them taken after I'd gotten to work in the middle of the night trying to resuscitate them instead of sleeping before work tomorrow. I'm glad I checked them as soon as I got in instead of waiting till the next day, but still extremely upset about this. I think orbit should buy me replacement plants at least for this but it still wouldn't really replace them because these are my plants that I grew from seeds and grafted myself. If they can even get the same kinds, those would be plants someone else raised. These are my babies. Those bastards hurt my babies! Update: Almost all my plants look like they've recovered well. I managed to speak to a human at Orbit and they are sending me a replacement. I took apart much of the broken one. It was full of water inside. The vulnerability appears to be where the LCD screen mates with the housing. Pushing the battery compartment in and out creates pressure that squirts water out around the edges of the screen. I'm going to put something, maybe epoxy, around the edge of the screen to try to prevent rain getting in to the new unit.

Easy to program and run!
These work well. The complaint might be they get too much for them. I walked into a deal at Amazon and bought a few for depth while the price was temporarily reduced.

Outstanding product
Great timer. Simple, straightforward product. Works great. Has been durable. Prefer this basic timer to the ones with bells and whistles that run up the price and are unnecessary. Highly recommend this particular product.

Great When It Works — But Needs Too Many Resets
I really wanted to love this Orbit 62061Z Hose Faucet Timer because, on paper, it checks all the boxes: easy to program, convenient scheduling, and it saves me from having to manually water the garden every day. And when it works, it does work well — the interface is fairly straightforward, and it’s nice not having to worry about forgetting to water. But here’s the issue: it randomly stops working. I’ve had to reset it several times over the past few weeks, and there doesn’t seem to be a consistent reason why. Sometimes it just doesn’t open the valve at the scheduled time, and other times it acts like it’s working — but the water never flows. A quick reset usually fixes it, but having to keep checking on it kind of defeats the purpose of “set it and forget it.” I’ve also tried swapping batteries and making sure it’s not getting too wet, but the hiccups keep happening. It’s frustrating, especially if I go a day or two without noticing it didn’t water — not great for a lawn in the middle of summer. Bottom line: when it functions properly, it’s a great little gadget and saves time. But the reliability isn’t quite there, and I wouldn’t trust it to run unsupervised for too long without occasional check-ins. Not a total dealbreaker, but not as dependable as I’d hoped.
