Maiden Heist [Blu-ray]

This was a movie I wanted for my collection. Great cast, very fun. The seller got it here in a timely fashion.

Enjoy most movies with Morgan. This movie has excellent cast. Watch at least once a month.

This was a cute movie, with wonderful stars. It has a simple story, and very funny at times. They all work at a museum, and their favorite objects, that they have watched over, and loved are about to be sold..What to do? They are far from professional thieves, and what can go wrong does. It is charming..I had never seen it, and am glad I got it at a great price. It was a pleasure to watch.

The four principal stars, all fine actors, give it their best. There are funny moments, enough for one viewing. However, it's not a movie to revisit. 1. Harden's character is one-dimensional. Her dismay and constant disbelief are numbing after awhile. Harden tries, and I think she's a fine actress when given a challenging role. 2. Morgan Freeman plays Morgan Freeman...cool, detached, seemingly above it all (with the exception of one scene involving video surveillance). He's played this role many times before, and seems to "mail this performance in." 3. That leaves it to Macy and Walken to carry the show. They almost pull it off, but the plot fails them. 4. There are numerous holes in the plot: (1) Harden is saving her "tip money" for a trip to Florida. Her husband steals $800 of her money...presumably a significant amount, given her reaction. Yet a few "plot days" later they're flying to Florida, despite the fact that hubbie spent the money on a forgery. (2) The three thieves somehow manage to steal two paintings and one large sculpture, and substitute forgeries, while everything is being packed for shipment in a large room full of countless employees and guards. (3) Macy's character somehow manages to produce a full-size forgery of a sculpture in only a couple days I don't mind suspending disbelief in order to enjoy movies, but basic finances need to add up, and some semblance oi credibility needs to be maintained, and here they do not. Given what occurs in this movie...what we see actually happen... the thieves simply cannot end up in Florida, because the hard-earned money is simply gone, the forgeries can't be swapped out in front of dozens of employees, faked metal statues cannot materialize in a few days, and so on. Prepare for serious suspension of disbelief! 5. The opening gun battle feels all wrong. Sure, it tells us something about the fantasies of the museum guard, but it misleads the viewer. It feels manipulative, because it is. Maybe if it came a littler later in the movie, when we knew the guard to be a modest, quiet unheroic man, this violent daydream could have bedern more believable. 6. The scene at the end..who gets the crate with the guy inside...is simply not believable. A security guard entrusted with valuable artwork simply would not give up the crate. Poor, unrealistic, not-funny screenplay. 7. Most important of all, the movie plot isn't sure whether it's a drama or a comedy. The funny moments are too few, and the dramatic scenes are drawn out. Reminds me of "The Great Waldo Pepper" in this regard. I could accept the holes in the plot more readily if it were a comedy. But it's grounded in reality, and dramatic "high tension" scenes abound (though, to be fair, they're mostly "tongue in cheek"). Multiple plot holes in Marx Brothers movies don't seem to matter much, but this screenplay strives for something more subtle, more sophisticated than Groucho et al. Again, worth watching once; not worth revisiting. Another DVD that's headed to the thrift shop.

I came across "The Maiden Heist" on television, and, intrigued by the description, recorded it. My husband and I both enjoyed it so much we purchased the DVD -- and were very happy to get it for under $5. The story is a very funny and endearing one about three museum security guards who are approaching retirement age and who have just learned that their museum will be selling their three favorite paintings to a gallery in Scandinavia. They concoct a plan to steal the paintings and replace them with copies -- the title refers to Christopher Walken's favorite painting, "The Maiden". The characters are quirky and lovable and we couldn't help but cheer them on. Perhaps you will too....

I came across this movie while channel surfing a few months back, and it looked like it would be a good movie to watch. So, I recorded it on our DVR, and man am I glad that I did. It has an all-star cast line-up, so how can you go wrong. It's a great comedy movie that again the entire family can enjoy watching together.

Movie wasn't as funny as I thought it would be but still enjoyable. Great actors and Harden was especially funny. Not sorry I purchased it.

This movie is a little known gem, all star cast, funny storyline and great entertainment to pass the time, highly recommend.

Die drei alternden Museumswächter Roger, Charles und George lieben die Kunst, die sie bewachen. Roger und Charles haben je ein Lieblingsbild; bei George ist es eine Bronzestatue eines nackten Mannes. Oft, wenn er sich nachts auf Kontrollgang alleine und unbeobachtet fühlt, entledigt sich George selbst seiner Kleidung und ahmt vor der Statue deren Pose nach. Roger erlebt in Tagträumen vor seinem Bild, wie ein Kommandotrupp schwerbewaffneter Gangster das Museum stürmt und er diese alle im Alleingang erledigt, um "sein" Bild zu schützen. Eines Tages beschließt der neue Kurator des Museums, die Ausstellung im Austausch gegen andere Kunstwerke nach Dänemark auszulagern, um sie dort ausstellen zu lassen. Roger, Charles und George sind entsetzt. Kurzfristig überlegen sie, mit der Ausstellung nach Dänemark zu ziehen, verwerfen diesen Plan dann aber zugunsten der Überlegung, Fälschungen ihrer drei Lieblingswerke anzufertigen und diese beim Umzug nach Dänemark gegen die Originale auszutauschen. A nice comedy which has a somewhat quieter pace than most, but it is a joy to watch the comedians at work and all the subtleties that are in this movie. This is the type of movie that one can enjoy watching again and not getting bored.
