Your one-stop-shop for final examination, the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Examination and Practical Skills is the first truly comprehensive pocket guide to clinical examination and practical skills for medical students and junior doctors. Providing clear and user-friendly guidance on all aspects of history taking, physical examination, common practical procedures, data interpretation and communication skills, it gives realistic advice on coping with common situations. In line with current teaching methods, the book takes a systems-based approach to medicine. Each system chapter follows a structured format covering applied anatomy, history, examination, and the presentation of common and important disorders. The procedures section includes approximately forty practical procedures that the final year medical student and senior nurse are expected to perform, from hand-washing through cardiopulmonary resuscitation to inserting chest drains. The theory, practice and complications are outlined for each. The final section on data interpretation covers the basics of chest x-rays, abdominal x-rays, ECGs, lung function tests and several other areas that the junior doctor is expected to carry out in their early years of training. Aimed at medical students throughout their course and student nurses throughout their clinical years, its clear presentation and layout combined with comprehensive clinical detail make this book an ideal guide both for quick reference whilst on the wards, or for more detailed study at the desk. It will also prove useful to junior doctors and nurse practitioners as a primer before going out onto wards, or into a primary care setting. Review: Great - This is an exceptionally good book. Like any of the other Oxford handbooks. It gives you an overview as well as a procedure to follow. It gives good explanations and I found it to be extremely useful for carrying out neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular and abdominal assessments as well as upper and lower limb assessments Review: Great book. Fast shipping. - I'm currently preparing for my PLAB Test and this book is highly recommended as a great tool to obtain or refresh the required knowledge for it. I was highly pleased that the seller was able to ship the book to USA where I currently live. Nice service, great seller. I will buy more book from him for sure.

Good for Medical Students
I'd recommend this for all UK medical students as soon as they need to take history / examination. Contains handy notes on the most common and correct notation seen in notes. Again, as you'd expect from this series the book is concise, condensed and accurate. Well worth it.

It is a practical book
That said, it is a good book, but not as good as Oxford Clinical Medecine or Oxford Clinical specialties. On the other hand it is easy to read. I would recommend this book not as a source of information, but as kind of testing. This book in my opinion is not suitable for doctors or similar proffesions, but it is good for laic people, and maybe for begining nurses, which are not yet qualified or someone who is studying health care or similar. Compared to Oxford Clinical Medicine, this book is much easier and lower leveled book and as dense.

The short, simple and concise Clinical Examination book
Written for those who wants pages of checklist, simple explanation, and above all, a good book for clinical exams. Was recommended by some senior registrars and regret for not getting it sooner.

when in doubt consult this book
took AMC and PESCI and referred on this book from time to time. the problem with youtube and net is there are several variations of a procedure. If you check it with your book (Murtaghs) you'll have to look for that page wasting your time. The topics here are clustered for ease. Other than using wikipedia, this can be a source of standard care of various tests and procedures with explanations. With that you can definitely say its from an authorative source. plus its cheaper to buy in amazon
