When i received my kai shears, the package was not sealed and i am concerned that they may have been previously used.  does the package come sealed?

are these made for lefties? do you make lefty scissors?

I am right handed and my Kai are for right handed people.  Kai does make scissors for lefties.  Check to see if Amazon carries them and if not, check with the supplier.  I love these scissors.  They are well made and very sharp so use with care.

Which model Kai scissors would you recommend for cutting something like 4mm cotton twine?

I wouldn't recommend any Kai scissors for that purpose as they are overpriced for value.  I googled what you're trying to do, and the Gingher 8" dressmaker shears came out on top in a comparison of 4 brands including Fiskars and Kai.  The comparison stated that the Kai model struggled with thicker rope/cord but the Ginghers cut right through without a hitch.  Retailers like JoAnn carry the Gingher and often have 40-50% off coupons.  I'd buy Gingher myself as I had to return 2 pairs of Kai scissors- the 7230 and 7250- because of discomfort in the grips.  Didn't like them at all.  Also those Kai models weren't noticeably any lighter than the Gingher 8" shears and the blade length on the 7230 was the same length with the 7250 only being about 3/8" longer even though labeled as 9" and 10" shears respectively.
