The Jewish Home (Updated Edition) Review: Outstanding introduction to Judaism - I'm currently using this text as an introduction to Judaism for an eventual conversion. It's a phenomenally written book that flows easily, as a conversation would. The book covers many of the Jewish holidays and provides background information as well as current celebratory practices. The book does a fabulous job of explaining why things are the way they are. After the holidays (which are presented in order as they take place throughout the year) are presented, Rabbi Syme then goes on to cover life cycle events from birth to death, including bar/bat mitzvah, marriage, and divorce. Roughly half of the book covers the holidays and the other half covers the life cycle events. It won't answer every possible question, but it's a valuable book for every Reform Jewish household, or for anyone is curious about Reform Judaism. Review: Great book - While not the only book I’d recommend for learning about Judaism, it is a fantastic start. Definitely one to have in the collection. Q&A style makes it easy to read and understand

Very interesting!
I have learned a lot since reading this book! My husband and I are interested in converting to Judaism and this book has helped to explain some of the traditions of the culture. I found the section on Names very interesting! For example: "ben" means son of and "bat" means daughter of. I never knew this I always thought in the Bible that ben was a middle name! So this may be rather silly but it really was very interesting! No matter what religion you are if you want to learn more about the Jewish culture this is a wonderful read!

Well organized and informative
An easy and thorough read. It answered a lot of questions and was very well organized.

I really enjoyed reading this and deepening my knowledge of the home aspect of judaism. Since that is kind of the most important area of jewish life and the place tradition lives, it is great to have a convenient reference work whenever a holiday comes along, to make sure I am properly prepared. There is always a decent summary given of the background info for the holiday, historic facts on how it used to be celebrated and finally how you might celebrate it now.
