Awful text, Only buy if your class requires it
This disorganized, inconsistent, dull mess of a book has no right to be considered for a curriculum. If the average ethnomusicologist has the musical comprehension of Mr. Titon I do not find it the least bit surprising that the field is nearly ignored. Incorrect terminology, poor analysis, shallow coverage is rampant throughout this text. I'm not going to bother wasting my time going into further detail over this overpriced drivel. Perhaps my professor failed in building a course based off of these materials and thus amplified my frustration; but that doesn't save this book from my desire for tossing it in the garbage bin (sadly, I can't have that satisfaction with an ebook). Had I bought a physical copy I would NEVER insult my other books on music keeping it on the shelf with them. In all seriousness, if you need this for a class, just buy the ebook through Cengage or whatever your class is using. If you're interested in ethnomusicology, then I pray there is better text out there for you and maybe someday you'll write a decent book so students can actually learn something.
