Classic square with a perfect display, that you can set with your phone
I love the display. It's the biggest reason I upgraded from the classic dw5600. There are no compromises made with the classic casio square (unlike with the DWH5600) Some may feel different about the buttons, but for me, they are perfect, It was such a pain clawing at those older casio squares every time daylight savings would roll around. I'm all around impressed that this is a watch I can set with my phone and receive notifications (albeit on a very limited interface), but still manage a 3 year battery. Imean we all know it's gonna be less if you use the backlight and vibration too much, but I don't. To me this is the best update to the classic square yet. I was considering the DWH5600 until I saw just how thick it is, and looking at the battery life, I might as well get an actual smart watch rather than a hybrid. No thanks. The physical difference between this GBD200 and the classic squares is negligible aside from the buttons. both are equally comfortable, last long, look awesome, and can take a beating. As for the smart stuff, It's not motivation to buy the watch. It's a nice convenience to be able to keep it at the right time with your phone. Unless you receive only texts, notifications don't make a ton of sense, since there's no way to filter other stuff. I'd say there's untapped potential with the way the syncing process works. It would be nice to get custom watch faces. Even with the limitations, the MIP display has so much room for creativity, and I could deal with the watch taking a while to receive data for the sake of some pizazz. Just a thought. LOVE THIS WATCH

A Great Watch, Even Used in Dumb Mode
I've had a DW5600E-1V for a few years. G-Shocks are like potato chips; you can't have just one. The 5600 is a classic, and its features have served me well. But as middle age ravages your eyes, you can't see as well as you used to. The GBD200 caught my attention because of the large display. After doing some reading, I bought one and I'm not disappointed. I don't exercise much outdoors so the activity monitor is interesting but not often used. I have no comment about this feature except that it seems to count steps and measure distance satisfactorily even when not paired with a phone. Pros: - MIP display. This display can produce huge numbers for time at-a-glance, and it can write text and figures so small that your eyes had better be good to read them. The MIP display is the reason I bought this watch and it alone justifies the price, IMO. I can read the time at a glance in nearly all light conditions. When it's too dark, a quick push of the backlight button makes the giant numbers on the display instantly visible. - Displayed information. The date, day of the week, hours, minutes, and seconds are easy to read on the screens with and without GMT. - Bluetooth connectivity works well. - Easy configuration through the app. It's much easier to configure the watch through the app than it is using the watch's menus, though both are possible. - Hyper accurate when paired with bluetooth. - Extra button for backlight. - Large, easy buttons. - Vibrating countdown timer expiration. Love this! You'll always know when the timer has expired. Cons: - Negative display. This watch would be even better if the MIP display were positive instead of negative. - Lack of hour chime. The alarm will both chime and vibrate, but the watch won't chime on the hour. - Long strap. People with smaller wrists may find the band a little too long. - Alerts coming from the phone are much, much too small to read easily. - The stopwatch only counts in full seconds, probably because the display's response time is so much slower than standard LCD. If you routinely measure times with 10ths or 100ths of a second, you may not like this. After about a day, I put the watch into airplane mode and never connected it to the phone again. I quickly realized I just don't need to be so connected and I found the constant alerts (which I couldn't easily read) to be far more distraction than enabler. So my GBD200 is now a "dumb watch" but the display alone makes this watch the daily driver. I'd buy it all over again!

Best G ever?
Best G-Shock I’ve ever owned! Fits great on my tiny wrist but still has some manly G bulk to it. The features are awesome as are the display options. Only thing is the excess length of band sticks way out and gets caught on everything, but I just ordered some extra watch band loops and it should be problem solved. I must say a solar version of the same exact watch would be the best thing there ever was in the history of things. I am noticing I’ve had to disable some notifications to save battery, and it does give me the tiniest bit of battery anxiety. According to my level of usage I’m supposed to get 18 months out of it, so we will see. Although one of the neatest features is it automatically terminates the Bluetooth connection when I take it off for the day and put it down on my dresser, and automatically reconnects when I put it back on in the morning, and does all that flawlessly. If I know myself I won’t bother to replace the battery and just use it as an excuse for a new watch. Maybe Casio will release a solar version by then, who knows.
