I'll admit, I am a big fan of this company and have been using their cameras since 2017 (although I do have a lot of cameras from other manufacturers too!). If I have the funds available (I skipped the X2) I will always invest in their new release as they are continually raising their game with every product launch and the X4 is no exception. I don't publish a lot of my stuff as I film for personal reasons and memories but I have attached an animated photo that took of a dimly lit interior of a historic Scottish church. Lots of cameras would have struggled in these conditions but the X4 excelled! The animation was also extremely easy to do in the Insta360 Studio software which is provided free. I have mine paired with the Insta360 GPS preview remote so that if I have it mounted on a 3m pole I can easily see what is going on and start/stop recording a lot easier than having to hold a phone and do it (the remote can be wristmounted or attached to the pole). Used on its own, the camera is extremely easy to use. All of the automatic settings will give amazing results but if you want to dabble with the manual settings then you can get exceptional results. I have been involved in photography/videography for many years and would give you these tips: 1. Get to know your camera... make mistakes and learn from them. If you have an important occasion coming up that you want to record, then practise, practise, practise beforehand and double, if not triple check your settings before hitting record. 2. Think about your mounts if used on a vehicle. You will see a lot of people complaining about breaking their selfie-sticks - almost every time it will be because of bad practice and lack of understanding of physics. Think about leverage, vibration and if in doubt, tether! 3. Protect your glass. The X4 has removable lens protectors which should be used in an action environment. I have had eight 360 cameras over the years and have NEVER damaged a lens , even in action environments. From a photography background I have been brought up respecting my glass. I always shoot with a naked lens if I can as this gives best results but there are plenty of accessories available to help you if you are shhoting in a harsh environment. 4. Respect your camera - although advertised as an action camera, you should still respect it as a piece of photographic equipment and show it some care and respect. The number of posts I have seen about lenses being cracked/cameras being broken as the tripod they mounted on fell over is amazing. If you are looking at buying this as a first 360 camera then I absolutely recommend it. Easy to use and amazing, easily obtainable results. If you are looking to upgrade from an X3 then I would say yes too (I did!) The X3 is awesome but the X4 is awesomerer!

Really good action camera. The upgrades from the X3 seemed reasonable to went for this, still a bit pricey in my opinion for its capability but far superior to the GoPro 360 Max. Great build quality and picture quality and video quality is top tier. Love the shortcut functions and makes it really easy to use. Seems to be compatible with all my existing gear from the older cameras so great work Insta360 thank you

Likes: Really good quality camera that is relatively easy to use. The iPhone app works well for editing. A 512gb micro sd gives me 4 hours 30 mins of 8k 30 frames 360 video. The microphone quality is good. You don’t have to worry about missing anything as the 2 lenses capture everything. Dislikes: the Mac/Win studio software has very few features for editing. The camera gets SO hot when recording in max resolution especially in warmer weather. In my case it only once stopped recording at 34c heat in direct sunlight after 30 minutes. This also reduces the battery life. A second battery is recommended as I was getting just over an hour of recording. Editing footage on my iPhone causes it to overheat especially when editing larger files (IPhone 15 pro max). The files after editing are massive (3 minute edited video was 550 mb). Verdict: Price wise it is expensive and you will find yourself buying extra accessories for it. But overall I would recommend this camera.

Although I haven't had much opportunity to test it completely, my initial impressions of the camera are positive. The 8K resolution is particularly impressive, allowing for substantial cropping while still maintaining decent-quality footage. I mistakenly purchased the X3 version initially, but the upgrade to the X4 is well worth the £90 price difference. I've shared some photos, including side-by-side images of the X4 and X3 for length and thickness comparison. Unless you're examining them closely together, the size disparity isn't noticeable, nor is there a discernible difference in weight when holding them. Few things to bear in mind: 1. Some Android users have posted negative reviews about this camera, attributing their inability to connect to their Android devices. However, this issue is not related to the X4. It is caused by an ad blocker or similar software enabled on their Android devices. This results in the "Connection failed Error code: -14174" message (refer to the attached screenshot). To resolve this, Android users simply need to access their device settings and disable any ad blocker to enable the X4 to connect with the Insta360 app. 2. The 8K resolution of the Insta360 X4 camera is spread across the entire 360-degree view, so it would not be fair to directly compare it to that of any other non-360-degree device, which only captures a fixed angle of view. When editing and exporting footage from this camera, you won't achieve true 8K resolution in a traditional sense. However, considering the compact size of the device, the footage is still very impressive. 3. The Insta360 X3 Quick Reader isn't compatible with this device; instead, the Insta360 X4 Quick Reader is required. Unfortunately, the X4 Quick Reader is not readily available for Prime delivery at the moment. Hopefully, the Insta360 X4 Quick Reader will be in stock on Amazon soon for Prime delivery; I'll purchase it as soon as it's available.

As a user of the Insta360x2, then the X3 I was keen to get my hands on the Insta360 x4. I love my 360 cameras which allow me to be highly creative with my videos and sometimes stupid videos. The New X4 did not disappoint, it’s a great camera and although it’s a bit bigger, it’s a little harder to run around with it in your mouth for NoseMode but not enough to stop me from doing so. The new bayonet-style lens protectors that twist and clip into place come with the camera or you can buy better-tempered glass versions to help protect your lenses if you drop the camera, so much better than those horrible sticky lens guards. To be honest, though I don’t like to put anything in front of my lenses as it will lessen the lens quality, risky I know! 8K Video, Wow, this takes up more memory and power so that is one of the reasons for the size increase, it has a bigger battery, so it lasts longer and you will need larger capacity SD cards because of file size. There is also a 5.7K mode which you can use, and it will use less memory. Just as a heads-up I hear about hot cameras and overheating, yes they do get warm, but I have never had an issue and was shooting lots of video in temperatures of 39 degrees without any issues. The bigger size also means that it now sports a bigger 2.5-inch screen which is great for playback. Shooting at 8K resolution also means that I can crop in on the video (Zoom in) and still be at 4K which is a bonus. As a creator, the beauty of the Insta360 X4 is I can not only shoot weird and wonderful things, but I can shoot everything around me and then reframe on my desktop or app to show the view I want, you don’t miss anything! I love the new camera, well worth having one in your camera bag.

Cameras are great but when I saw you need the app to activate the camera, I sent it back. How long before you need a yearly subscription?

I love taking 360° videos, and this camera has completely changed the game for me. I hate missing those hidden or unexpected moments, and with this, nothing slips by it captures everything. The quality is honestly mind-blowing for its size, and the results look so smooth and professional. I’m really impressed with how easy it is to use and how creative you can get with the shots. Totally in love with my Insta360. it’s magical!

On en fait tout un bruit sur cette caméra, mais, la qualité d'image est vraiment dégueu pour ma part. D'après ce que j'ai pu voir l'image est surtout stabilisé par le logiciel, la caméra en elle même ne stabilisé rien. Quand on cours on voit le décors de déformer même si on bouge le moins possible le bras. Avec la Perche ou le manche télescopique et bien on voit un gros défaut et de temps en temps on voit même le manche. Faut enlever les protections d'objectifs pour régler un peu le problème. En tout cas moi je la retourne. Ce n'est pas du tout ce qui était dit sur les vidéos youtube etc... Là tout semble magique. La réalité l'est moins.

Poor quality videos, terrible photo resolution and short battery life. Not durable, weak construction. Heavy size, bulky weight. Camera has problems when recording. Battery comes out by itself causing the camera to immediately stop recording. Underwhelming camera performance. Camera overheats all the time even at normal room temperature and freezes while recording. Short battery life. Camera get too hot to touch and hold. Video would freeze within seconds requiring a restart. The AI editing features are also useless rendering absolute poor quality, laggy videos. There is a noticeable flicker and shakiness in the video, when the flow seam is activated in the program. Once the video is rendered it has blurry noise and in places with a lot of light, the battery goes out quickly too. Not recommended for low light or require details in the output. Stitch line always visible when there is movement. Glare reflections in sunlight. Grainy photos in lighted conditions. Lens covers create halos and the premium ones render worse output. Lens guard is made out of cheap plastic and does not provide good image quality. The lens easily cracks. Even the premium lens guard is not durable. The lens guard should be made of Gorilla glass, not out of cheap plastic material. The software is full of bug issues, glitches and constantly gives an error. Does not connect to Apple iPad. The app will not accept the connection. It just keeps failing connection repeatedly. The phone app, computer app and GPS feature are terrible. Longer upload time for long video. There is no option to disable Bluetooth. Any identity-thief working with the BLEx app can find this camera and pinpoint the camera user location within 600 feet distance. When contacted Insta360 customer service, their response recommendation was to 'switch off the camera completely'. This proves Insta360 does not care about personal safety of Insta360 camera user. Camera all of a suddenly stopped reading the SD card. Even after a firmware update, but still has no fix to the issue. Swapped out new battery and SD card with the same result soon after also. The camera also seems to take longer to respond upon start up and getting to the main screen. Very difficult to transfer images photos or video from memory card to computer. Mentions invisible stick is included but its not. Lens guard is cheap plastic and does not provide good image quality. The lens easily cracks. Charges every accessory at a cost! Not cost-effective way of purchasing a camera. Controls are stiff and very slow to respond. Takes much longer to save images and battery life about half. The Insta360 x4 won't start up without using the app. Completely useless required user interaction of downloading app, installing app, creating account, initializing the camera. Very bad shaky, wobbly effect on the corners of the image, stitching is not properly corrected. Even after updated the firmware and checked all the settings, the wobbly effect still appears. Not waterproof. Water damaged after underwater use. Poor customer service support. Unresponsive in issue resolution. Requires lot of effort and time-consuming in working with this camera. Insta360 need lot more improvement for this camera to be a usable, functional camera. Very long delay in refund process and time to receive the refund. In short, junk product cheaply made in China. Not recommended.
