The DeWitt weed barrier - too tough to die!
3 days after l got the DeWitt pro weed and grass barrier l put it down. It was so easy, so light, l wondered if it would hold up and not tear up. It's done a magnificent job, so far no weeds or grass have come up thru the barrier. It's very tough, cause l put gravel on top, and there are no tears in it. Great value for the price. I'm very pleased with this weed barrier. I'm sold on it

Solid ground cover
Awesome ground cover. Iโve had it down for about 6 months now and itโs keeping all the weeds and grass at bay. I put this in my hoop house to cover the ground and so far thereโs no tears or holes, even with us in there daily and the kids playing in there. Itโs expensive but you get what you pay for.

Hoping for the best
After using some Dewitt 3 ounce weed barrier to line some flower beds, I decided to order 250 foot of the 5 ounce to completely rework my vegetable garden area. The 5 ounce material is very different from the 3 ounce material we used in the front beds. The 3 ounce was more tarp-like on one side and the 5 ounce lacks a plastic like surface. When we first put in the garden, we rented a sod cutter and removed the grass from the area. Then we setup five 4 x 8 beds in a pattern that would allow them to be worked from all sides and not require walking in them. The surrounding area has been home to many earthboxes and other containers. Within a short time, the bermuda grass invaded the raised beds from underneath and I gave up using them completely. For several years, I've been relying on only the containers for growing our vegetables. After removing everything from the area, emptying the beds of grass and weed filled dirt and lifting them out, the entire area was covered with this weed barrier using six inch anchor pins to hold it in place. We then positioned the raised beds and lined them again, creating a double layer of weed barrier in the bottom of the raised beds. We're now filling them with new garden soil that is free of weeds and grass. The removed mess was spread in low areas of our yard to level. I'm optimistic that I'll be able to actually garden again without fighting the invasive bermuda grass in my raised beds. When we originally setup the area, we installed fence posts but haven't had any fence surrounding the garden area. My brother came up with a great idea to keep both rabbits and grass clippings out of my garden area. We're going to wrap the area with aluminum screen. With a gate installed near the water source, 28 inch aluminum screen, anchored with more 6 inch anchor pins will help keep both the rabbits and the mower thrown grass clippings out of the space. Update on 11/01/13: The area has been through an entire season now and all is well. We haven't seen any bermuda grass or other unwelcome growth inside the raised beds or garden areas we've lined with this fabric. It appears to be holding up well and doing the job. The lined surfaces outside of the raised beds are covered by mulch or old rubber backed carpet runners, so the barrier is not being subjected to the sun.

A Little Pricey, But Totally Worth It!
The Dewitt Pro-5 Weed Barrier Woven Fabric is a bit on the pricier side, but itโs absolutely worth every penny! This fabric is incredibly durable and has done an excellent job at keeping weeds at bay in my garden and flower beds. Itโs woven tightly, allowing water and nutrients to pass through while blocking weeds from growing. Iโve tried other weed barriers in the past, but this one stands out for its quality and longevity. Itโs easy to lay down, doesnโt tear easily, and holds up well under the elements. After installing it, Iโve noticed a significant reduction in weeds, and my plants have been thriving without the constant hassle of pulling weeds. If you want a high-quality, reliable weed barrier that will last, I highly recommend the Dewitt Pro-5 Weed Barrier. Itโs an investment that pays off in the long run!

Works Perfect!
This weed barrier is awesome! If you've ever used the thin inexpensive weed barrier from a big box store, the difference between that and this fabric is like night and day. It is easy to install, stays in place quite well even before you staple it or pin it in place. Nothing comes up through it or under it as far as I can tell. We have a couple of areas where we left this exposed all summer (no mulch), we walked on it and it's tough. No cuts or tears whatsoever, not even from rocks or tree roots. This is what we'll be using for all our future landscaping projects. I highly recommend this weed barrier.

Nice heavy fabric
*UPDATE 2* Well now after a few seasons this is still holding up fairly well. Using some chemical weed block helped a little, and the rubber mulch certainly isn't decomposing, but still I have to weed the beds a couple times per year. Various grasses and weeds still germinate in the leaves/detritus/needles/etc that end up in the mulch and themselves decompose. I think the best solution is to hire landscapers <g> *END UPDATE 2* *UPDATE* By the end of the season some weeds had managed to grow through the fabric (germinate on top and send roots down through the fabric). Pulling out the weeds did not result in any tears/rips unlike the experience I had with the less costly fabric where pulling out weeds occassionally caused tears. I was cautious with chemical weed-block because of a previous experience where it damaged several of my plantings, and will likely try again with chemical weed-block in smaller quantities to try and avoid some of the weed germination next season. *END UPDATE* I bought the first roll of this after reading the reviews to replace some fabric. I bought the second roll after seeing the thickness and (apparent) durability of the first. I have about 1100-1200 sq ft that I'm going to cover to start with and I expect to need very close to all of two rolls. I had previously been using bark mulch and bought this fabric to go under new rubber mulch. I had to replace the big box fabric primarily for two reasons 1) fabric had ripped in places as a result of removing a rosebush that had gone completely wild and 2) many weeds had started growing from the top side of the fabric through the fabric into the ground due to decomposing bark mulch. I am not as negative about the big box fabric as some other reviewers. If I had replaced my bark mulch every year, and not allowed the rose bush to run amok I think it would have held up well. The main complaint I have for the big box fabric is how quickly it degrades when exposed to any direct sun. I doubt I'll remember to update this review in 5 years with info about how well it held up. Pulling the weeds out of the old fabric that had been exposed to the elements led to more and more rips, and rendered the fabric ineffective. I upgraded to the Dewitt fabric because with rubber mulch I expect the mulch (and the fabric) to last many more years. The fabric is reminiscent of lawn chair webbing. It takes a good pair of shears to cut, and a nice sharp point to poke a hole in order to put in a fabric stake (I used plastic ones with a large round head). It is a bit narrower than the fabric it replaces, so with the recommended overlap you get rather less coverage than the 750 sq ft you would calculate based just on the dimensions of the roll (about 12-14% less). It is durable, and at no point have I so far poked through the fabric unintentionally, either by walking on it, or dropping tools etc on it, while installing. If I were not installing rubber mulch, and not expecting a fabric to last 10 years, I may still have opted for the much less expensive fabric, and replaced it more frequently. I give this 4 stars primarily based on value. I would guess this does not save money overall, but does reduce the amount of work (i.e. how frequently it gets replaced). If saving time & better durability is more important than saving money, I'd recommend this fabric.

I have used lots of weed Barrier over the years, this is hands down the best I have ever had. Its thick and is not cheap junk, well worth the price.

Several years of 100+ degree summer sun & still going strong
I bought this fabric sight unseen in spring of 2010 because of the good reviews. We started in the front yard in a small area where a large tree was removed, with good results. We covered it with bark and grew ground cover over it, with various small plants in between. There has been some degradation but nothing unexpected considering the extreme heat and direct sunlight (up to 115 degree temps, and hot southern CA sun most of the year). Very few things survive in our front yard, even drought-hardy plants. Perhaps that's why there are very few instances of grass sprouting, usually just at the edges. We have continued to plant various areas of the yard every year, using this fabric to block weeds, with the same good results. Last spring we covered our entire front yard with it, and planted sprigs of ground cover every three feet. The ground cover has grown in beautifully, with no weeding. Buy the 500 box of anchor staples/pins and make sure you get the longer, better ones. You'll pay about half per staple than buying many smaller packs. Tip: You can change around the plants if you cut an "X" in the fabric when you dig a hole for a new plant, and fold the flaps up underneath. That way if you remove the plant you pull the flaps back out and patch the hole. Update 10/27/2013: The whole yard still looks great and weed-free, planted with ground cover over the paper, and other neighbors are starting to paper over their yards as well. We're still very happy with this product. Any exposed areas can be protected by covering with bark while letting plants fill in, but it's not necessary. Update 01/24/2022: Still loving this fabric. Anywhere there is a garden, path, tree, etc., in our now lovely park-like yard, there is this fabric hidden underneath keeping moisture in and weeds out.
