Nintendo Has Raised the Bar for 2-D Platforming Once Again!
In the gaming world of today where 2-D is largely a thing of the past, Nintendo, the 2-D platformer king of over two decades, has released what is likely their finest 2-D platformer to date, and that means a lot! The gameplay has been as refined as seemingly possible in a 2-D platformer. The biggest addition this game brings to the legendary Super Mario Bros. series is 4-player modes. Up to four players can work together to accomplish common goals or compete competitively. I have a nephew and niece who are 3 and 5 years old, and they LOVE this game! It truly accomplishes the feat of being fun for all skill levels. Due to seemingly simple but ingenious design mechanics, players with very little skill can play along with incredibly skilled players, and everyone can have a blast. It is simple to play but tough to master. The only thing I wish this game did is offer more of it in the way of levels and characters. Of the vast Mario universe available to Nintendo's developers, only Mario, Luigi, a yellow toad, and a blue toad are playable. My niece would have been ecstatic if she could've played with Princess Peach, for example, even as an unlockable character; Nintendo could've really did more in this area. Furthermore, a level creator and sharing system would have been amazing. But any negatives are greatly outweighed by positives. There's a reason why Japan's leading gaming publication, Famitsu (that's over two decades old), gave New Super Mario Bros. Wii a perfect score; few games have accomplished this feat in the notoriously critical gaming publication. If you like Mario games, platforming games, or even quality games or fun games, New Super Mario Bros. Wii will not disappoint. Play it and enjoy! Graphics: 9 The graphics are simple but clean, sharp, and effective. Sound: 9 The soundtrack and sound effects lack the complexity of a game like Super Mario Galaxy, but it has many timeless old favorites as well as some new, future classics. Gameplay and Control: 10 This is arguably the most important factor in a video game, and this is where Nintendo often shows their experience and expertise. The control feels as perfect as can be. Lasting Appeal: 8 The multiplayer aspect will keep you coming back again and again, but with Nintendo not likely to release new downloadable content and it lacking a level creator and sharer, this brilliant game will not last as long as it could if Nintendo put the work in that they could and should. OVERALL: 10 This is, quite simply put, 2-D platforming at its, best no matter what console you play it on. (out of 10, not an average)

Review of game
I actually played this game years ago on my Wii but I ended up losing my copy I recently managed to buy a new one and decide to start over from the very beginning but I do distinctly remember the play the first time I played it and this is really a top-quality game it looks great feels great the controls are easy. It's a very dangerous and tricky thing to try to make a sequel of a classic particularly what a lot of people would consider one of the greatest video games ever and that's the original Super Mario Brothers I like millions of people around the world when I was a kid play the original on my old NES. Just like remaking or doing a sequel to A beloved film there have been a lot of video games that have tried this and not been particularly successful. It's risky when you are again dealing with a game that is so legendary but this game actually delivers and I would argue actually manages to be better than the original in quite a few places. There's really no sense going into detail with the story and that's the only problem with the game because it's the same old thing Bowser has Princess Peach kidnapped again, seriously that girl needs some better security around her Castle, what is this now the 5 billionth time Bowser has been able to kidnap Peach and of course Mario and his friends have to run off to save her so that's the only problem with the game it's the same old story line but everything else is much better first you get some extra ways to use Mario my personal favorite is Mario literally gets a propeller on top of his head and can fly great distances this can be very helpful and quite a few levels also you'll come across Toad Houses for example in one of them you play a game of chance a wall of panels you climb up down one and it turns around and either shows an item or the Bowser or Bowser jr. Logo every time you make a match with an item it goes into your item stash but if you match Bowser or his kid the game is over though you do not lose what you have already matched it just stops you from continuing to match anything more there are other bonuses strewn about particularly Giant coins 3 in each level that will come in very handy once you finally managed to rescue the princess bonus levels and of course each level just like in the original game has all of its little secrets so there's a great deal of replay value hear you not only want to get a higher score but you're going to have to go back and look at quite a few of these levels to find a lot of these hidden places where you can find stash of coins, items and all kinds of other goodies. There also bonus levels once you finish the main campaign to unlock even more goodies. Oh by the way one little tip. Once you've gone into a toad house and grab whatever you can get the house disappears however if at any point in the game you run out of lives and it's a game over all of the Toad Houses from the previous levels will pop back up so you can go back to those houses to load yourself up with more items this is simply pure enjoyment it's everything a video game is supposed to be you can just sit back and have a good time playing it if you have never had the chance of playing this don't miss out on a really nice video gaming experience

Funnest Game I EVER played
First of all, I am not a gamer. I have a wii that mostly collects dust. I play around xmas time, mostly wii tennis doubles with my fam and then my cousin and I break out the Super Nintendo for our favorite unknown masterpiece, Tetris 2. So I haven't played every game out there...and I never really got used to three-dee style games, like trying Super Mario Galaxy I was just mostly confused and uninterested. I always loved Super Mario Bro, the original. When I was a little kid, my mom wouldn't let me get Nintendo when it came out, so when I went to my bff's house, all I wanted to do was play Mario. She was sick of it after a week, so I snuck down to her basement when she was showering, for instance. I ordered this game with amazon gift credit, and then I thought "Hmm, I never play games, will I even play this?" When it came my boyfriend and I waited a few nights before giving it a whirl. It was love at first jump. This game is crazzzzzzzzy fun!!! It's like being seven all over again when I first was introduced to Super Mario Bros and was trying to calm my little heart because it was so excited. And I've downloaded for Wii the old school Super Mario and not had that feeling again, as the old game was still cool but being dated and predictable, was more nostalgic than adrenaline inducing. But now the adrenaline and joyful shrieking is back, thanks to a team of game-making geniuses who took everything awesome about the original and then amped it up for the second decade of the new millennium. The ability to fly by shaking the controller is super fun. Playing with your buddies and using team work to advance is so much better than just waiting for them to die so you can get your turn!! I was shocked by how well the "teamwork" aspect of the New mario works. You really do help each other ("Jump on my head to get that special coin!") and there is no down time. The boards are more interesting, challenging, colorful, and believable than ever before, but have all your throwback bad guys like the ninja fighters with their boomerangs and what not. I love that it brings all the great stuff from the various mario bro versions. The dessert stuff from mario 3, the Yoshi from Mario Land, and pretty much everything from Original Mario one, like one brilliant Smash-up. But it's way more fun that I can describe, so just buy it with confidence that it's WAY better than the old school mario you downloaded for Wii or Super Mario Galaxy, there will be no redundancy adding this to your Wii collection. And there's a good chance you might be like me and think "This is the funnest game I ever, ever, ever played!"

A perfect Wii game
I only have one real criteria for a Wii game. Can I have fun playing it with my wife and friends? That's the reason I got a Wii instead of an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 . To me, the Wii is more like a board game than a video game system, something to be shared and enjoyed with other, instead of the countless solitary hours demanded by most video game systems. There was a time when I would have happily devoted 40-plus hours by myself playing a video game, but those times are gone. I was let down a bit by Mario Kart Wii , due to its dependence on winning the single-player mode in order to unlock the new carts and courses used in multi-player mode. Because of that I was a little wary to buy another Mario product, but I am happy to say that meets that "New Super Mario Bros" has none of those limitations. This is just pure gaming good times. First off the nostalgia hits pretty hard. I couldn't possibly count how many hours of my life I spent perfecting "Super Mario Bros" for the NES. What made the game awesome was all of the hidden bits (negative levels, anyone?) and getting your patterns and timing right. The "New Super Mario Bros" retains all of that fun and excitement, improving where necessary but keeping the flavor and challenge that made the old "Super Mario Bros" so exciting. Having the multi-player option is a total game-changer. You seriously need to work together to complete the worlds, going at the same pace and timing your jumps so that you don't knock your partner down. This gets especially challenging in some of the ice and air worlds where a simple mistake can send your partner tumbling to death. The game world is big enough that you can spend a lot of time playing around in it, going back and forth between the levels and advancing at your own pace. We finished several of the levels with a few missing Star Coins, and have gone back to try and find them. Just like the old "Super Mario Bros," there are enough game secrets buried here to keep you guessing for quite a while. All in all my wife and I have devoted a lot of hours to "New Super Mario Bros," and will spend a lot more before we are done. This one was definitely worth the purchase.

"New" Super Mario Bros.?
Nintendo's iconic sidescroller returns to the home console in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Once again Mario is chasing after a kidnapped Princess Peach through a land that feels very much like Super Mario Bros. 3, with slightly upgraded graphics. Nintendo played it safe with this one and created a throwback to the first four Mario games. If you love "old school" Mario then this is the game for you, but if you're looking for innovation you're looking in the wrong place. Most Mario games have no plot, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii is no exception. Mario must explore eight worlds searching for his beloved Princess Peach, a simple creature who does nothing but write letters, bake cakes, and get kidnapped by Bowser and his spawn (why either Mario or Bowser care for her I'll never know). But a plot is not important when you have excellent level design and, for the most part, this game delivers. While holding the "Wiimote" like a classic NES controller you'll discover levels that pull straight from the past, and one of the best parts of the game for me was seeing how the new levels relate to my old favorites. However, there is little new material. New items include a propeller hat, an ice flower, and a penguin suit, but the ice flower is only a small variation on the original flower power while the penguin suit gives you the ice flower ability. Sadly there is no Tanooki Suit. And then there is Yoshi, a fan favorite who is nearly neglected in the game. Yoshi makes an appearance in roughly five stages, but if you beat a level with him you cannot take him with you to the next one. Multiplayer is one of the selling points for this game and gives it, along with collectible star coins and skill videos that the coins unlock, some replay value. Multiplayer is a ton of chaotic fun with four people, although it can make getting through a level very challenging as you throw friends around and bounce off of their heads. It is disappointing that the available multiplayer characters (aside from Mario) are Luigi, and two toads. Nintendo could have been more creative with this and made some new characters available after beating the game, but that is not the case. There is no online play, which doesn't bother me, but many people seem upset by this. I have no complaints with the controls (really the only new thing is flicking the controller up in the air to do an extra jump) or graphics, but the music leaves so much to be desired. I found myself getting irritated with much of it, especially the childish "bah bahs" that repeat far too much. It has many classic melodies, but the arrangements are just obnoxious. I also hear a lot of reviewers say that the game is hard, but it is far less so than I expected. You will certainly die a lot, but it is easy to collect lives and simply beat the game. What is a good challenge is collecting the three star coins that reside in each level. If you have a Wii and you're a Mario fan, I highly recommend this game for its nostalgia factor and multiplayer fun. New Super Mario Bros. is no reason to go and buy a Wii, however. I hoped the game would be so much more than it is, but I can't deny that I'm still having fun.

One of the classics. I love this game!
One of our favorite games to play with the kids. Lots of fun for both adults and kids. The graphics are fun and there are a ton of challenging levels to keep you entertained for hours.

Best game ever.
This game was so fun, got it for Christmas over ten years ago and I can personally say it is one of the best games ever made. The newer super Mario bros do not compare to this original game. The new ones are cheaply made and somehow have worse graphics than this one, even though this one is 10 years older. Great product, thank you!

Utterly addictive, long playing life
This is exactly the game you'd expect if you've ever played one of the Mario Bros. platform titles before - it's the same scrolling from right to left concept with the same characters, the same format of worlds and Bowser confrontations at the end of each one. The important difference is that up to four people can play it at the same time - this turns it from a rather solitary and unsociable pursuit into many evenings of fun. The levels themselves are very difficult - some of the bonuses are only achievable with more than one player playing unless you are very skilled with the controller, especially the time-based collection tasks - which lead me to conclude that this was designed as a multi- rather than a single-player game. It manages to keep both types of player happy though - both dedicated ones and casual. At first there's 8 worlds to explore, but if you manage to get all the large coins then a 9th opens up for you to try (but you ned to get ALL the big coins in all other 8 worlds to progress to different stages in the final world). This adds a real longevity to the game because once you have it mastered, there's an addd incentive to get all the coins. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to play a fun game with children who have a basic level of proficiency to their gameplaying skills; it would make a great gift too. Edit: it tok me a week before I realised that if I held the 1 button down while moving, my character would sprint - and therefore jump a little further too (I wish I had known that earlier), and that if I pressed the 'a' button at times of extreme danger I would go back into my bubble and be safe (another thing I wish I knew earlier). Edit 12March 2010 - my partner and I are still playing this game, having fun looking up the location of the secret coins on youtube! A great game.

Amazing game
Amazing game. I got it because our old game was scratched and it looked brand new. There are no issues with the game and it is a nice challenging game.

Man kommt immer sofort wieder rein, keine stressige Handlung, minutenlange Handlungsstränge, einfach Jump & Run at it`s Best. Ich freue mich wenn mein Sohn in das Alter kommt und ich mit ihm im Coop - Modus spielen kann :-)
