Very "chatty" and bleeps a lot when all warnings turned on. Great device. Clear screen and easy to use and read. A big step forward from my old Garmin 1000.

The software on this device is diabolically bad, trying to create a course or a location to ride to on the map is next to Impossible because the software is that diabolically bad that it's impossible to do. The only way you can save a location is by physically going to that location and then saving it once you are there. You cannot create any course or location unless you are physically there. I have never seen something so diabolically bad

Be prepared to have your device frequently reboot when you're out cycling. Even updating to the latest firmware several times it keeps rebooting. This is unacceptable considering how much this device costs. Avoid at all costs.

Garmin Edge 1050 I've been using the Garmin Edge 1050 on my rides, and honestly, it feels like Garmin took everything that worked well on the previous Edge computers and gave it a serious upgrade. The first thing you notice is the screen. The 3.5-inch display is bright, sharp, and much more responsive than older Garmin units. Maps, data fields, and navigation are easy to see, even when I'm riding in bright daylight. The touchscreen is another big improvement. It feels much more like using a modern Smartphone, with quick scrolling and very little lag. The faster processor makes navigating menus and changing settings while riding much less frustrating. I also really like the built-in speaker. Turn-by-turn directions are easier to hear, and the bike bell is actually pretty useful when riding on multi-use paths. Garmin Pay is another one of those features that sounds unnecessary until you use it. Being able to stop for a coffee or snack without digging my phone or wallet out of my pocket is surprisingly convenient. Navigation is excellent overall, and there are a ton of training and performance features packed into this thing. The Edge 1050 also includes road-hazard reporting, GroupRide features, Trailforks data, and on-device course creation. For someone who likes tracking everything from speed and power to elevation and training data, there's almost too much here — in a good way. Battery life has been good for my normal riding. Garmin rates it for up to 20 hours under demanding use and up to 60 hours in battery-saver mode. That's plenty for most rides, although riders doing really long adventures may prefer something like the Edge 1040 Solar with its longer battery life. The biggest downside is the price. This is a premium cycling computer, and you're definitely paying for all the features. It's also a little larger and heavier than some alternatives at 161 g. For me, though, the combination of the excellent display, fast interface, detailed navigation, training features, and Garmin ecosystem makes the Edge 1050 one of the best cycling computers I've used. It's probably more computer than the average recreational rider needs, but if you're serious about cycling and actually use the features, it's an impressive piece of equipment.
