Only the Engine is metal- the rest of the set, including the wheels, is plastic.

Will this product fit O-gauge tracks?

It comes with the lionel fast-track. You can run on o-gauge track. You can buy transition track if you need to merge the two tracks. This or any other TMCC style train requires power to be constantly "on" throughout the track set. And either the hand controller or bluetooth device controls the engine. So you can not run a "conventional engine" with a tmcc or lionchief engine at the same time since the power is "constantly on" when using this engine control. Make sense ?

Can you be used outdoors?

Yes, as a matter of fact I can be used outdoors. I was actually outdoors just a moment ago. This train, on the other hand, isn't made to be kept outdoors. You could set it up and use it outside for a while as long as the weather was nice, but it shouldn't be left outside. Since it isn't waterproof, or even water-resistant, any moisture would ruin the electronic components. I'm nut sure if you were asking me or the train, so I answered for both to be safe. If you were asking the train, then what I'm about to say will probably disappoint you........The Polar Express by Lionel isn't capable of answering you. It is an electronic toy which isn't capable of hearing, thinking, or talking. Sorry to break it to you. I'll give you a moment while you let that sink in. Go ahead, take all the time you need.

What is the difference between this and the 5.0 Bluetooth set? They both have Bluetooth and the descriptions are the same

Yes, 5.0 has more options including the ability to record your own messages to the train from your Bluetooth device. The 5.0 is also all electric with hand held control that requires 3 AAA Batts or a0ai mentioned the use of Bluetooth.
