Not necessary, but useful for my needs.
It works great and just as expected. Not sure it was really necessary, though! They offer a software version and a cloud version.

Expensive and relies on cloud resources to function
Requires and relies on the cloud, not actually local. Expensive and does not implement basic features like turning off auto-updates.

So far so good hopeful for the future
I've had this for over a year. Easy to use easy to manage. Solid 10gig Router with some Poe ports to boot. Time will tell if the platform was worth investing in. Still using OpenWRT APs while I wait for AP7.

Not easy to set up with a new Route10
Setting this up for the first time with a brand new Route10 was a mess - hope you've got another DHCP server available somehow, otherwise you won't be able to activate this with a PC. It insists on using HTTPS with a locally resolved domain for setup instead of a good old IPv4 address for its web interface. I couldn't for the life of me get this activated using an iPhone over bluetooth. Honestly I should've returned this and just stuck to the cloud option, as it doesn't really offer anything that the cloud one doesn't, and it uses up a PoE port, because there's no power supply included. If you are like me and you are considering this because of peace of mind of having everything within your home or building, then it's not worth the extra hassle.

Must buy when getting Route 10
GreaT product easy to use , lets you use your network when your internet is down and allows for local DHCP and puts the control to network locally and great customer service
