Great stone for the price.
I've been using this stone to sharpen about all of our dull kitchen knives, and we have a lot! It's all you need for basic sharpening, and then use a strop to eliminate the burr. It's held up great, there are other better stones for two, three or more times the price, some single sided. I don't think the 1200 side is a perfect 1200 grit, likely there are larger particles embedded. Shavings, swarf is easily wiped away with a paper towel. I recommend a base, I was able to hollow out the side of a 2x4 the length of the stone. Also good to place on something grippy, like silicone drink coasters. If you need more aggressive shaping, get another one with a coarser grit. Has pretty good feedback for when you're aligned at the correct angle.

Good for a cheap diamond stone
Use light pressure and be patient and this stone will last like a expensive stone rough side is most useful

Quality thick diamond stone
This is the real deal. It’s a very thick plate so it will not move around. The grits are as stated. I have reprofiled several kitchen knives that were literally rounded over and nicked using the stone for about an hour. Normally diamond stones will sharpen in three light passes. The point is that after much metal removal, the diamond surfaces are as new ready to touch up as knife in less than a minute. The silicon bumpers are a nice touch. I would rather have a case.

Great for sharpening knives but so much as a machinist straight edge
Hopefully my video uploads. So I got this stone for differnt plans I had but I was being a bit too optimistic but still it’s going to work for my needs just not as perfect as one would have hoped for paying about $22 shipped lolz. It’s true up to around 0.005-0.004 and some parts down to 0.003’. I tested the flatness with my machinist straight edge and feeler gauges. The 5 thousandths is the largest gap that could be found when checking along all points of the stone. Heck it’s flat enough to do a backyard weekend night got to be ready and drive to work on a Monday type of headgasket cylinder head decking job type of flat ok. 😅 I’ll keep it for sharpening tools but I’ve found one better than this for about 70bux made by sharpal that’s supposed to be rated for 0.002 which is more along the lines of what I’m after and the grain runs all thru the surface it’s one solid slate unlike the diamond ♦️ patterns embedded into this one which will slow down my work just by a fraction
