I trust Ashkraft in that this is what 11+ comprehension is all about. So the 4 stars is probably for the Educational System. I despair that my little darlings had to trundle through such hard, difficult & completely boring (although through clenched teeth - ? inspiring) reading at the delicate age of nine. But once difficult parts of text explained somewhat thoroughly they managed to complete multiple choice in circa 5 minutes. Although there were the odd two ringed answers. I found my law books easier! Government get a life!

There is a good range of passages here, but I have found at least one egregious error in the questions: Exercise 3, question 1 asks: "Which of the six Great Powers of Europe did not take part in the first world war?" The author of the passage states that "Italy remained neutral", and thus the answer is supposedly "Italy". However, the author (David Stevenson) only means that Italy stayed neutral during the initial crisis of 1914; in 1915 she joined the British-French-Russian side and took part in the war from then on. The publishers should alter the question .

Brilliant book to start the children off with. Once they get the hang of it then good to start harder cem papers.

Bit easier. But good to get hang of it. My son enjoyed it. Finished book in 3 days.

Good level of comprehension

Great resource for reading comprehension practice.

Nicely presented.Covers lots of vocabulary and aids comprehension skills.Bought for my 9 year old but useful for older ages too.
