Ever since forming 16 years ago, Irish quartet God Is An Astronaut has reigned as one of the premier instrumental groups. With its fusion of intense rock instrumentation, ethereal and emotional soundscapes, awe-inspiring dynamics and transfixing melodies. Each of their prior releases has offered a breath taking sonic journey, and their ninth emotive opus, Epitaph, is a record that both sees a progression in their sound while still remaining true to their ethos that helped define the band. The cover artwork was painted by French artist Fursy and fits the melancholic mood beautifully. Joined by long-time drummer Lloyd Hanney, contributions also come from Jamie Dean on keys and Xenon Field on sound design. The opening title track ‘Epitaph’ sets the album`s mood. There is pain and loss at work here, but not pain and loss that are given in to. Sparse piano motifs face energetic rhythms, shimmering guitar coatings, and eruptions of dense fury breathe life into a journey of melancholic longing: there is the release experienced when a troubled existence ends in ‘Mortal Coil‘ followed by the sombre foreshadowing that is ‘Winter Dusk‘. The album changes direction slightly with ‘Seánce Room’ and the music on this highway is taking you someplace meaningful and special – someplace where near and far blur and stars weep over tragedies. Finally, the beautiful and hypnotic piece of music that is the album-closing ‘Oisín’ is in memory of Torsten and Niels' 7-year-old cousin who was tragically taken from this world. It distils into four minutes all the pain, sadness and longing felt by many over a much-longer timeframe. A fitting end to an album that will move you deeply and call out to you to be revisited many times. Review: Fantastic Album - This is one of their best. Great LP pressing. There is a caveat, you NEED to listen to this band how it was intended: with a flat EQ. This not mixed to be listened to through a pair of beats. I'm sure most of you know that but for those who don't and complain about the mix go revisit this through a set of reference monitors or studio grade headphones. Review: Great record. - One of my favorite albums of 2018. Darker than anything they’ve done before. Absolutely phenomenal record. Got it on vinyl. Wish these bands would stop putting their records in shiny waxed paper that scratches records. Use soft paper or felt lined sleeves.

Beautiful Ambient Music With Great Rhythms. Music Without Words Is The Best
God Is An Astronaut always releases beautiful music. Sometimes beautiful music with percussion and sometimes with great piano pieces or just ambient keyboard pieces.Music without words is all about enjoying the instrumental pieces and all of the instruments and synthesizers that make us feel so much emotion without someone's lyrics telling us how to think about the song. It's all about imagination and emotion and God Is An Astronaut always gives us that. Great new album guys. A+

Vocals would be nice
Nice metal/ambient/hard rock that doesn’t require lots of attention. Really like the “noise” sounds in the background; wish the drums were louder and more prominent; piano/keyboard plays the same simple, single note melodies in every song; can’t see why there aren’t any vocals; Made me want to listen to Russian Cirlces for something tighter and more expansive!

"God is an astronaut" è un progetto post-rock irlandese con contaminazioni elettroniche e space rock. I loro pezzi sono strumentali ma sono sempre molto gradevoli. Consigliatissimi

I really like A Moment of Stillness and All is Violent... The band live are fantastic also. This is quite different, but I love it. The pace is very different and the whole album is driven by the subject matter so very sorrowful and beautiful. Still dynamic heavy and soft, still God is an Astronaut but evolved. I cried. The whole is magnificent but I love the title track, Seance Room, Komorebi and Oisin in particular.
