Would this product be suitable for afro type hair?

I don’t know I have wavy hair but I must say I am disappointed in it because it doesn’t clamp tight enough shut there’s a gap so you have to hold it I would not buy again hope this helps

Is this machine supposed to leek water during the steaming process?

No, but it could be leaking because the water tank has been overfilled or the cap on the water tank has not been pushed back in place fully after filling.
