Great little dig kit for young geology enthusiasts. My 6 year old grandson loved it and asked me to get him more in future.

The packaging and documentation that is included with this kit is really good, more suitable perhaps for an older child. Our 15 years old, autistic, granddaughter really loved the extra detail that was included. So far she has chipped away at the Earth and the Moon. That would leave the planet Mars, and its gemstones to do later. As noted, the information about the gems is great, if that is what your child would be interested in. Please see my photos. The planets are easy enough to crumble with the tools provided. The gems, ten of which can be seen in a photo, wash up in warm water well. There is very little dust generated, you are given a water bottle to use to spray onto the planet to keep the dust down. A mask is also provided, she did like to wear that. There are no sharp edges to be concerned about and the planets do break apart very easily. She very much enjoyed the fun of playing with this and the egg, for the dinosaur hatchling, just extended that enjoyment. Ours hatched overnight and grew a little over the following couple of days. It does remain small, and rubbery. The small bag that you are given to store the gems is useful. The only negative that we could mention is that the gems to be found, in the two planets already done, are clumped together in one spot, with hardly any separation. That was saddening as our granddaughter still enjoyed breaking up each planet, but knew that the gems had all been discovered in one go. Perhaps there might be a certain randomness as to where the gems get placed, for us, so far, it was not good. For the price and the contents we very much recommend this gemstone kit. Why did you choose this product over others?: Bought this as a gift to my kid as he's on to science and rocks. He loved that it came with the tools and all sorts of stones from different planets.

This was a present for a 6 year old kid. Once opened, he did it straight away and loved it.
