Review: Classic Psychedelia - Not a lot to add to the other reviews here - this is a superb album; a real labour of love The remastering is excellent and allows us to appreciate what a forgotten group The Move were. The tracks cover some really different styles and are quite wacky (silly accents and mad instruments) but my wife keeps saying "I didn't know that they did this one: I love this" and my 2 and 6 year old kids love it and sing along to every tune! Great stuff and a great price for a double CD - if you have an interest in ELO or the Birmingham 60's sound then this is for you and holds up better than many a Stones or Kinks album form the same era. Recommended. Review: Some Great Tracks but why include mono as well as sterio versions? - Some great classic Move tracks on this - Cherry Blossom Clinic, Fire Brigade, Kilroy was Here, Lemon Tree, Night of Fear, Mist on a Monday Morning, Walk upon the Water, Yellow Rainbow, I Can Hear the Grass Grow and of course Flowers in the Rain! So many great tracks on the discs that I had forgotten about. I had the original vinyl LP and it was great to revisit these. Not so keen on Weekend and Zing which sound more like Showaddy Waddy tracks. Some tracks benefit from having orchestral instruments added into the mix which was probably innovative at the time. I don't understand why this is a two CD set. The mono songs (repeated on disc two as sterio versions) are unecessary. Give me sterio versions every time especially since Move tracks are a bit of a wall of sound anyway. A couple of the tracks don't have a sterio version which is disappointing. Perhaps more disappointing is the fact that Blackberry Way was not included as a bonus track. All in all I am pleased I bought it.

THE MIGHTY MOVE
To me the Move had "something" (pardon the pun) that no other UK band had at that time. I believe Mick Farren (RIP) described them as the best UK Live act of their time; trouncing art-house gibberish like Pink Floyd, who very annoyingly looked down their snotty noses at the far superior fire power of The Move.. Superb vocals individually and massed. The vocals of Carl, Ace, Trevor,Roy and Bev were simply delightful. Its a shame that perhaps Roy's writing took over so strongly as they had a great soul- psych vibe going on. On this 2 x CD remaster, unreleased Don't Throw Stones and Move show the soulful vibe inherent in Carl's and Ace Kefford's vocals. Full propers to Rob Caiger for rooting out the analogue tapes and for his diligent research work... A superb testimony to a maddening, incredibly verstaile band who should have been as big as The Who,Stones etc. They had it all; the looks, the pre-punk authenticity and the musical chops to have taken it all the way.

What a fantastic start to a genuinely exciting reissue series
What can I say? Reissues may come and go featuring The Move, but none have ever been treated as well as the first two albums recently issued. I must own most CDs that have ever come out by the band over the years, and this is the first time that the sound on straight remasters has sounded so good, let alone the tracks which have been remixed to stereo after all these years. If all goes to plan, the further album reissues, the double BBC set, and four CD anthology style box set (now due in February 2008 I hear from a good friend) shall all be a joy to behold and should fill all the holes in the band's past. Truly remarkable. Go buy, you know you need to. Even if you have the albums already, the bonus tracks alone are worth it - and there are links to more unreleased tracks on a special area website (FIVE more tracks available there to buyers of both the first two albums, as I write this review).

"Hey Grandma"......
Not too bad 2 CD package....I took this on faith and ordered. The song in the title above has a lot of character. Lets face it this is early, developing time for many groups, mid to late sixties. If you dig the genesis of certain players knowing that some leave bands like this and "Move" on to the big time...then you might dig this....Could this be 45 years old? I think so...

Here We Go Round The Lemon Tree".

wonderful album extended for 40th anniversay
I'm not sure what cd the guy who described this wonderful release as poorly mastered was listening to, but either we got different masterings, or our ears just plain hear things starkly differently. I was, I must admit, skeptical of this release, as the 1997 Repertoire release was so wonderfully mastered and absolutely chock full of bonus tracks, 16 all told. However, the fine lot at Salvo tempted my once I obtained their wonderful sounding, but short on running time, 4 cd box set "Anthology." Much to my relief and delight, this double disc release not only adds even more bonus tracks, 21 in all, and lovely studio banter among the band members, but is deliciously sounding. To my ears at least. No noticeable noise reduction to my admittedly amateurish sonic receptors. Sounds warm and fuzzy to me. But I'm a record collector not a perfectionist audiophile, so perhaps I'm missing something somewhere. My take on this release is that the fine folks at Salvo took great efforts to obtain the master tapes, did a bang up job of remastering the sound, and gave us about 14 minutes of additional music. Roy Wood and company's debut album is a pure delight. While the band never quite fit into any convenient pigeonhole, they surely did produce some wonderful pop pscyh singles early on, before maturing into a heavier rock band on later releases. My advice, if you've got the Reperoire piece, still in print by the way, grab this one for comparison sake. It can be obtained inexpensively from drop shippers. If you don't have this cd in your collection and psychedelic music is your preference or among your tastes, get this double disc 40th anniversary release and give it a spin. My money says you'll be delighted. If not, bash my review and set me straight. As for the music itself, many brilliant singles appear here, among them, "Flowers In The Rain" "Fire Brigade" "Night of Fear" and "I Can Hear The Grass Grow." The first three available in both the original as well as previously unreleased mixes. The rest of the album is good British psychedelia, including a cover of Moby Grape's classic "Hey Grandma." There's nary a weak link in the chain of tunes found on this deluxe release. The piece is worth full retail, but availabale much more reasonably through drop shippers. Show your support for both Roy Wood and company, and the fledgling, but dynamic Salvo label and pick up this set. Then judge for yourself. I'm betting you love it.
