Large capacity spinning drives still are a good choice for many people.
If you have a lot of images and files to store for a long long time spinning hard drives are hard to beat. I have older drives that are more than 10 -15 years old and still work well. That's not true for SSD drives which need to be powered up every so often otherwise data can be lost. Also, at this time the cost of SSD drives has skyrocketed so spinning drives look more desirable for uses where constant accessing is not needed, like those pictures of your kids from the past or other archival uses.

Dependable and easy to use
Great, dependable, back-up drive. I own several WD passport drives and find them easy to use and reliable.

No nonsense portable storage.
I'm using this as an offline/unpowered long term backup. So I'm not exactly stress testing it but the fact that it's USB-C and doesn't need additional power is excellent. I can just plug it in, do a backup and store it away. It's a HDD so it can safely store data for years without power. I can't speak for any security software or features since I simply formatted it as exFAT. This way it works with Linux, Windows, or any other operating system in the event I need to restore any files.

Worthless Paperweight
I spent several hours moving files to this, intending for it to be a backup drive. I checked the files to see if they were working, and everything was fine. I ejected the drive, and left it on the desk. Two days later, I needed to use one of the files. I plugged the drive in, and it was not recognized by the computer. The little lights flashed and flashed and flashed, but it initially froze Windows Explorer. I turned off the computer, unplugged the device, turned the computer back on a few minutes later, and plugged the drive in....nothing. It could read that the drive was attached but it did not show me the folders or files on the disk, even after being plugged in for over ten minutes. This was a complete waste of time and money. Their suggestion of tech support was just an AI chatbot, designed to waste more of my time, while letting me know I'm not valued as a customer. So I am returning this plastic piece of junk for a refund. I had a similar problem over a decade ago, and vowed to never buy their products again, but I kept seeing their products listed as #1 affordable external harddrive. Cheapest, certainly. But it's not affordable when their products don't actually work.

Reliable
Works perfectly. It replaced my external hard drive. I also purchased the optional software that works reliably and is easy to use.

Could have had a modern cable.
Very good price for the capacity. Recognized easily, no special steps needed. The only downside i would give it is the cable it comes with. Its the older USB connector instead of USB-C. Luckily my laptop has 1 Older USB port, or i would have either had to buy a new cable or send it back. athey should instead include a USB-C to Micro B cable for future proof connectivity. Plus, the cable is short, like 5" or so, and I highly doubt its transfer speed is faster than what USB 2.0 can manage.

Great quality portable drive but slower than expected.
I’ve used WD drives for many years and they have always been reliable. This one is the best quality portable drive I have owned so far, and it is working great so far. My only gripe is that I was hoping for faster speeds. I tested it on two different PCs I built this year, both with fully updated drivers, an MSI MPG EDGE B760I and an ASUS ROG STRIX B760G, and both have USB C 3.2 Gen 2 ports. I am only getting an average transfer speed of 100 MB per second on both systems. There are faster portable SSD drives on the market, but this HDD cost me close to $300 AUD, so you would expect better speeds in 2025 for this price than what I was getting from HDD drives I purchased years ago. Also note that there is only around 5.45TB available on the drive, not 6TB. This is the case with any drive as we always lose some storage….but 550GB of storage lost?? Just give us 6.5TB so we have the full 6TB…
