The Far Eastern Fells (Walkers Edition): Wainwright's Walking Guide to the Lake District Fells Book 2 (2) (Wainwright Walkers Edition) : Wainwright, Alfred, Hutchby, Clive: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Essential update - I have used the Wainwright guides since my first trip to the Lakes as a schoolboy in 1971. Obviously footpaths and routes change over the years with use and so the Chris Jesty updates, when they arrived, weโre enormously valuable. These latest revisions are invaluable: thoroughly updated with clearer maps whilst still retaining all of A.W.โs thoughts, observations, drawings and underlying โmapsโ. A great piece of work and I look forward to acquiring the set! Review: The classic Wainwright "Far Eastern Fells" brought fully up to date. - The classic Wainwright "Far Eastern Fells" brought fully up to date. Clive Hutchby has done a good job of updating things where changes have occurred since Chris Jesty's previous and substantial revisions. Mr Hutchby has introduced additional snippets of relevant and useful information for the fell-walker where appropriate, (occasionally requiring slight changes to AW's original page layouts), and footpath routes have been made much clearer on the maps & sketches. - The red lines introduced in Chris Jesty's revision are made thicker and more clearly defined, and are now denoted in three styles to better differentiate between "good", "intermittent", and "sketchy" paths. It goes without saying that the major part of the book remains fairly and squarely the work of AW himself, to whom every fell-walker owes a debt of much gratitude. Whilst the original Wainwright's are still available, and should be a part of every Lakeland fell-walker's library, these latest revisions, as and when they become available, are the ones that should now be carried whenever we are out on the fells.
