Good preparation
Book is well organized, first geographically with good descriptions of each location. The last sections cover history, science, and then biology. I wish there had been more maps and pictures of the penguin and other bird species. This book gives you a good sense of what to expect.

Same great quality as most LP guides.
I've read dozens of LP guides. This one, like nearly all of them, is very well organized, written, and informative.

Very overall, so little on the places that the average tourist will go to.

You can't go wrong with Lonely Planet.......loads of useful relevant information in concise form. Even had a section on the Falkland Islands which is so much better than the separate guide book I purchased.....which has since been returned. This book will be good reading whilst enduring the Drake Passage

So vermag bspw.

I have liked all the Lonely Planet travel books I have purchased, this one as well. Interesting thoughtful and practical information as well as maps and photos. Includes information on The Falklands, Ushuaia and Cape Horn and South Shetland Islands which is handy if you are cruising as many of the ships appear to stop off at these locations.
