Great for beginners !
If your looking for a beginners plane for your kid or grand child look no further this is the one ! My grandson who just turned 12 was flying this thing in "beginners mode" like a champ the very first time. Granted he's experienced flying drones but this is a whole different animal. The plane is very light and sturdy. The motor is in the back instead of the nose so its protected from nose dives and busted propellers however he didn't nose dive once with the gyro stabilization which keeps the plane flying level and straight when your not turning, climbing or diving. It comes with 2 batteries and depending upon how you fly the battery can last longer or shorter because you can control the speed of the motor which besides saving battery life it also gives a beginner more control over the plane. You can fly slower and have more time to correct mistakes and learn. As you get better you can fly faster but of course that means using more battery power. It’s fun to get the plane up to 300 feet or so, cut the engine and let it glide back down nice and slow. The battery can last for about 15 to 20 minutes, again depending upon how fast you fly and for how long. The battery takes only about a half hr to charge. I bought 2 extra batteries and two extra charging cables so he can fly for over an hour and he can charge 3 out of the 4 batteries at once. The best time to fly is low wind conditions 5-7 mph or ideally no wind. This plane is extremely light so it doesn't take much wind to effect it. Early evening when the sun is going down the wind is usually dying down or some days when its over cast its calm all day. The day my grandson flew his for the first time the wind was about 5-7 mph and he did fine. We were on a 3 diamond baseball field surrounded by trees. He kept the plane lower to the ground so it was less effected by the wind. Later that day we went back at 6:00 pm when the wind was almost nonexistent and the plane flew much more smoothly and we could climb higher. Get this plane its fun for everybody !

Definitely recommend for first plane
THIS is a plane for all beginners. I will say this is my third plane and I had three successful flights. I was a bit skeptical after watching videos about which planes were great for beginners, and testing and badly damaging the first two. The first plane was very light, which turned into a fight in 5 mph wind and not being able to land in the field that I was flying, but instead landing in the road and having someone run over it. The second plane was very big, it had big wheels, I could fly that thing well in pretty high winds, had one successful flight in 20 mph gusts. Until one day during takeoff i nose dived into the ground. The reason these two stories are important in because my maiden flight with this plane was the best of both of my first two planes. This plane was a little difficult to fly in the 10 mph winds, but I still maintained control of it, even though it is as light as the first plane. I got a LOT of altitude, which was a bit scary if I’m being honest (the higher it goes the higher the winds). I was able to cut it into the wind and then the scary part..... I had to nose it down to bring it in closer for my preparation for landing. The most awesome thing happened though, I did NOT have to pull back to get it level! It leveled out perfectly as soon as I put it back center. I had three successful flights, with a little wind, it was awesome to allow the glide effect and just enjoy the flight time. I recommend THIS for anyone’s first plane. You can tell the durability from others like it, and it definitely has a forgiving flight stability that allows the beginners to understand the flight patterns. Update: i took a risk in 15-20 mph gusts, I would not suggest doing such a thing for beginners, the plane was all over the place, I thought that I was going to lose the plane at one point but was able to recover. Had the battery entered into low power mode, I most like would have lost it. However I was able to make a pretty rough landing. The plane is fine, I did get it back in the house in one piece. VERY durable, even after wrecking into a tree. VERY worth the money to learn how to fly. My experience level is now 20 full hours of flight. UPDATE 2: I have flown this for more than 80 hours now. Probably going to need to get some battery replacements at this point. I’m not getting the 15 minutes of flight any longer. It’s more around 10 minutes on two of them, I’m not sure if the third battery is ever getting charged. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. But this plane has definitely served THE purpose. It has taught me a great deal about flying. I’m now waiting on a larger scale of this model of plane. It’s still in great working order and I’m still as pleased as I was with the maiden flight. I’m moving up to a 1400mm model that seems to be the next step. Although I’m very shocked at how well this particular model can do tricks (inverted flight for a few seconds , sort of air stalls, loops, etc.) it still lacks maneuvers because of the lack of ailerons. Again, I’m going to keep this running until the rudder falls off, it’s such a fun little plane that is so durable and is easy to fly in 25 mph wind (for the more advanced flyer). I’m now ready to move on to the knife edge, air stalls, snaps and other such tricks.

Decent plane for a clueless beginner
I bought this plane on a decent sale partly to get something I could try out and also use with my elementary school son. The plane is OK depending on what you want to do with it and if you're willing to repair it. On the first flight, we happened to go out to an RC flight field where a lot of experts had rather nice planes and one of them checked this one out and helped us adjust it. The expert summary was about a three stars for the price; essentially "good but a toy." Flight modes: Beginner and intermediate are indistinguishable to me. I don't bother with beginner unless I'm letting my son fly it because the intermediate mode makes flying the plane incredibly easy. Expert mode is a completely different story. It immediately becomes much more challenging to fly to the point where I keep trying to master expert mode and crashing a lot. My current self-generated training exercise is to fly it up to about 100'-150', cut the power and glide to a landing in expert mode. Durability: Decent? It's made of lightweight styrofoam. I have crashed it a lot and sometimes pretty hard. The position of the propeller helps keep it flyable because I've been able to rebuild the nose with gorilla glue and packing tape pretty successfully. However, I also glued the wings back in place because they were starting to lift off. The tail can be problematic because the rear elevator on mine completely separated. I currently have it attached with tape, but too much tape overwhelms the motor's ability to drive the elevator. I also managed to crash in a way that dislodged the circuit board from the belly of the plane, pulling the rods that control the back of the plane out of place. I pushed these back in place and got it basically flyable again, but that was concerning. Overall, it's decently durable and repairable, but it does break upon crashing, just not to an inoperable degree immediately. Flight time: pretty good, possibly because I spend a fair amount of time running across the field and picking it up. Having two batteries means I can end up flying on and off for almost an hour. Kids: My son was able to fly it in the beginner mode with intensive supervision. He needed guidance keeping in the right parts of the airspace, but found the experience enjoyable.

It does fly.
Okay, I'm no pilot. It took me a couple of tries before the plane took flight. Most important is the plane must be thrown pretty hard before it will fly. Since you really need a second person to launch the plane so you can have both hands free to operate the control, this what I did since I didn't have that second person.. The way that worked for me was throttle up the motor, then hold the control in your right hand while keeping the elevator control held so the elevator was in the up position. (lever down) Throw the plane as high and as far as you can. If you're lucky, the plane will take flight. If not, it'll nose into the ground. This plane will not take off from a stand still! It must be thrown into the wind! Those that say that this plane will only nose into the ground haven't a clue about how this plane works. Once in the air it took a minute or so to get the feel of the controls, and the plane, but what a blast once figured out. The plane will only fly for about 5 minutes under medium throttle with short bursts of full throttle before the battery gets low. You can tell that the battery is low because the sound of the motor will get quieter, and the motor does not preform as well when the battery is getting low...listen for the change. I would say this is a fun plane, and is easy to fly. Not so sure about younger kids tho, but if they do well with video game controllers then they should have no problem with this plane, since 90% of flying it is the proper use of the control. Me... I flew it for 5 minutes, changed the battery, flew it another minute or 2...and spent the next 3 hours trying to free it from a 30' high tree branch. lol. No kidding, this is a lot of fun for the price. Seems well made, and is forgiving of lower speed ground crashes.. Good luck and happy flying. Up date. This plane was an ok deal at 99 dollars, but is not woth the 109 dollars that they are now asking for the same item. To the seller...quite trying to pick your customers pockets.

Great beginner trainer plane👍
Some pilots told me to get the RC plane to begin learning the controls and how everything works Well I chose the 400 Ranger to start. I fly drones and flying an airplane is very different you have to control it constantly so I did crash it a lot in the beginning but I started picking it up and it became very exciting And fun I would say that it’s more exciting than flying a drone 👍beginning with a drone kind a messed me up I had to retrain my self which I did with that little 400 ranger as a beginner after I learn pretty good with that plane which I still have ripped it apart but glued it back together and it still flies pretty good It was very fun to fly I am older and I never thought RC planes would be that much fun so I moved on to a mid intermediate plane which is the carbon cub S 2 with all the bells and whistle‘s if you’re deciding to get that little plane for a beginner I would say that is a great decision to start with then move on to the bigger style planes that fly much better after you learn your controls , I recommend getting the ready to fly version because I bought ready to fly and also bought bind and fly I’m still working on the binding and fly . The ready to fly come ready to go out of the box you just have to kind of put it together it don’t take too long . Now I am progressing up into expert Well kind of sort of still practicing every day and I am becoming very familiar with all the controls I would say that spektrum Remote with the smart battery technology is the best . Yeah you can find everything right here with Amazon some items are on back order because everyone is kind of getting into the sport because of the pandemic just be patient it will get too you Amazon is pretty good with deliveries I give Amazon a lot of credit with their easy ordering and everything comes in great condition so if you are thinking of getting into the RC hobby or trying to become a real pilot yes start off small than move up but make sure that the plane has the new smart technology and with the gyros for beginners it really keeps the plane flying real easy you will have a blast I am enjoying the RC planes a whole lot it is very exciting to fly and with all this Covid going around you can’t get out there in a very wide open space and fly around without worrying about anything. Flight is so much fun for myself it’s addicting just learn your remote and start off small that is a great plane to start with it has the gyros and three modes beginner or intermediate and expert start off with beginner or in immediate but don’t go in expert until you learn everything because it will flip over , do rolls , fly upside down do anything you want an expert but come down very fast also 😂

The birthday wrecker
This piece of junk is entirely disappointing...with only one exception: durability. In dozens of attempts and after dozens of adjustments the plane only did one thing: nose dive directly into the ground. No matter how much we attempted to adjust the lift, the maximum we could achieve was slightly negative. Basically, max lift equals Boeing 737-800 max. AKA crash directly into the ground. Even in expert mode where the gyro is off all we could get is maybe -10 degrees negative lift. Even when not flying it, max lift on the kitchen table is negative 10. But, as a positive, after all the crashes, and there were many, it isn’t structurally broken. Just a piece of useless styrofoam crap.

Awesome lil plane.
Within a week the motor stopped working.. Flew about 8 times. It does fly great, very easy for a first time rc pilot to learn on. Honestly it exceeded expectations. Gets a solid 10-12 minutes of flight, 15 if you do some gliding or slow flight. Hard to crash this thing in beginner mode. Don’t regret buying at all. Definitely a good plane to learn on, but once you get decent on it and start flying more in the “expert” mode, you will definitely want to upgrade. Debating on sending it back or doing surgery and swapping the motor. Update: was quickly Sent a replacement plane. Works great. Ive had it for a while now with no issues. Did a connector swap to JST, using a slightly larger battery. Got 2 cheap 5 packs. Now I can fly for hours. Gets over 20min of mostly full throttle flight Per batt. Great for beginners. Excellent value, I highly recommend for a first plane.

not quite the fun we were expecting
> story time > user experience may vary, but here’s our story > be me. 30 something dad with 6 year old son. son loves throwing around foam glider planes. i think it’d be awesome for us to get an entry level rc plane. > find volantexrc ranger400 > order > me: don’t tell mom > son: okay! thanks dad, you’re the greatest > [winkwink.jpg] > reviews pretty good. price is high for what it is (foam glider with fan and servos). > (don’t realize until later that and all white rc airplane is a bad idea) > shipping super fast > arrives saturday afternoon > charge batteries and playtime sunday afternoon > take it out back with son to a huge open field behind our house > me: ready? > son: oh yeah > 1st go: throttle up, launch, 2.5 second fly time. 15 feet from us. nose dive. > hmm. okay, no damage. adjust trim. > 2nd go: throttle up, launch. 3 seconds forward flight. 30 feet from us. i bank to the left slightly but accidentally hit the elevators forward ever so slightly. nose dive. > hmm. okay, elevators are sensitive, especially down. gotta remember that. > canopy cover pops off, but easily goes back on. here we go. > 3rd go: throttle up, launch into wind. beautiful. 5 seconds forward flight. bank left, gain altitude. bank left again, gain some more altitude. at maybe 25 feet flying right overhead. son is in awe of me. i’m a pro. > [pilotwings.jpg] > wind picks up. try to bank it left again so it flies around us. > wind gets stronger. plane not making left turn, keeps gaining altitude. > me, to myself: don’t push that elevator down, it’ll just nose dive. you got this. > [bigmistake.jpg] > plane keeps gaining altitude. it’s gotta be 75 or 100 feet up. > can’t turn left. it’s going over neighborhood. > [panic.jpg] > okay, in the matter of a couple of seconds i realize this little lightweight can’t bank into wind, i’m going to have to go right and nose dive. > bank it right. wind kicks up again. it goes even higher. i can’t control it anymore. > son: dad – do something! > me: come back! damn you come back! > i’m screaming at it like that’ll make it respond better than my frantic wiggling on the controls. > rc plane: > [upupandaway.jpg] > i start running and screaming at it to come back. look like a damn fool. son running after me. neighbors stare in confused amusement. > it’s going higher and higher. there’s no control anymore. > i don’t know if it was me or the wind, but it turns away from us and goes so high and far away, we lose sight of it. > can’t see it > can’t hear it > gone > it’s a clear day without a cloud in the sky and it’s gone > that damn white plane is just gone > i stop running > son comes up > son: where’d it go, dad? > me: [wtfjusthappened.jpg] > stand there like an idiot for a minute > time to start search and rescue > son and i walk the field we were in for about 30 minutes. no sign of plane. i’m about to give up. > son: how bout you turn on the remote to see if we can hear it? > [imsobrightmydadcallsmesun.jpg] > honestly it’s a great idea. feel like a failure as a father. > we walk 25 yards downwind, stop, turn on remote, listen…nothing. > repeat about 10 times. > then we think we hear something in the neighborhood. rc plane? weed eater? cat in heat? could be anything. > end up in a person’s driveway. turn on remote and rev it up. definitely the plane. > son: there it is! > [lookupupup.jpg] > there it is. top of a 60 foot tree. like very top of the tallest tree. its nose is wedged between two branches and its wing is wedged between two more. > the wind ain’t going to blow that thing out. > i’m impressed it got wedged in like that to begin with. > [dadhasbrightidea.jpg] > we walk about a quarter of a mile back to where we started and go home. > grab about 6 different balls from the garage. all different sizes and shapes and weights. also grab a broom. gonna throw stuff at it to knock it out. > go back to tree. quickly find out that throwing a basketball 60 feet in the air is hard. > get to a little merf football. my best throw is still about 10 feet too short. > javeling the broom is embarrassingly bad > [sitdejectedondriveway.jpg] > bright idea. go to mal*wart. get 50 lb fishing line, some big fishing weights and a slingshot. > drive back to tree. get weight on line. get lots of line unspooled. > first shot wraps around wrist and hits me in forehead. try again. > second shot gets to a branch about 20 feet below plane. see weight spin around branch about 10 times. > no amount of tugging and pulling is going to break this branch or line. cut line. Now neighbor has fishing line and weight hanging and blowing in tree. > start over > take about 50 shots on slingshot. no success. > three weights and fishing lines waving from tree. hands cut up from pulling on line. arms sore. > [sitdejectedondriveway.jpg] > about to give up. > son: look! > wind picked up and actually did blow plane down to a couple of lower branches, but it looks really wedged in still. > ball throwing again? ball throwing again. > spend next hour throwing balls at the damn plane. end up hitting the plane about 10 times but it won’t get unjammed from that damn branch. > arm and chest and back is aching > it’s 108 degrees out. sweating everywhere. miserable. tired. > son is real disappoint. gives me the face. [iamdisappoint.jpg] > ok, one last throw. i take deep breath, wind up…and then the wind kicks up outta nowhere. blowing really hard. plane comes tumbling down. > [wellillbedamned.jpg] > we grab plane, get in truck. start truck and sit in silence for a minute. > me: well, that was fun. > son: flying it would have been more fun. > yeah, son. i know. > come home to write review. > i write this with ice on my aching arm and back. > about 2 minutes of flying time and 4 hours of slingshot and ball throwing. > pros: • i learned how to rudimently fly an rc airplane • i learned how to shoot a slingshot • 4 hour arm day • quality time with son • through the whole ordeal, plane was undamaged > cons: • doesn’t handle wind well • 2 minutes of fly time > if i had to do it again, i wouldn’t
