Fourteen-year-old Ozzy lives near Portland, Oregon, and is desperate for help. His scientist parents have been kidnapped after discovering a formula that enables mind control. Their work was so top secret Ozzy is afraid to go to the police, but without help, he fears he'll never find his parents. Then he stumbles across a classified ad in the local newspaper that says "Wizard for Hire. Call 555-SPEL." Ozzy has read about wizards in books like Harry Potter, but wizards couldn't actually exist today, could they? After Ozzy meets the wizard Labyrinth--aka Rin--he's even more skeptical. Sure, Rin dresses like a wizard, but the short robe and high-top tennis shoes seem unorthodox, as does Rin's habit of writing notes on his shoes and eating breakfast for every meal. Plus, Rin doesn't even cast any magic spells, which means that the unexplained coincidences that start happening around Ozzy are just that--coincidences. With the help of a robotic-talking raven invented by Ozzy's father, a kind and curious girl at school who decides to help Ozzy, and, of course, a self-proclaimed wizard who may or may not have a magical wand, Ozzy begins an unforgettable quest that will lead him closer to the answers he desperately seeks about his missing parents. Review: Awesome series - Kids, 13 & 10, loved this series so much (got from library) that when they opened this for Christmas, they were ecstatic! Kids excited about receiving a BOOK! Review: Thoroughly Enjoyable!! - Love this Book!!! Skye is a master of subtle humor! I found myself chuckling on many pages and laughing out loud on others! Actually, I laughed and I cried, because the story also has some incredibly poignant moments! A thoroughly enjoyable story with highs and lows and Clark! I can only hope Skye has many more adventures planned for Rin, Ozzy and the mechanical Bird with a 'Tude!

Grandson approved!
This was a gift to my grandson (11) as part of his birthday present. He says it was really good and rates it 5 stars. When asked what he liked about it , he said the MC. He felt sorry for him. He has already requested the next book in the series. A sure sign he liked it.

Unexpected hit!
We read this as a family and we all loved it! This wouldn’t normally be a book I’d reach for but I kept overhearing my husband read it to my son and eventually just joined in because I was hooked!

Obert Skye still has it
My first exposure to Obert Skye was the Leven Thumps series as a kid. Despite the ensuing years hardening and making cynical my outlook, this book still managed to impart upon me the optimistic wonder that Leven Thumps did back then. If you want a book that will make you laugh often, you could do worse than this one.

Great book even for reluctant reader
My daughter is not much into reading, unfortunately. However, she greatly enjoyed this book. She even selected it for her school independent reading project and read without any reminders every day. So as I parent, I think that my money was very well spend!

It’s a children’s book
First off I just want to say that this was recommended to me on a book recommendation sight so I never once suspected it was a YA book, I don’t read YA. I don’t know how this book got past the algorithm for my preference and reading history but here we are. It’s cute and all and I didnt know it was the first of a series. Once I found this out about 60% of the way through the book, I looked it up to see what happens because I just couldn’t take it anymore. It drags on and on and I honestly was sticking it out to find out what happened to his parents. Learning I had more books to go through before getting even close to that just killed the whole thing for me. It might be good for kids, but honestly as a YA I would have found it a drag as well. I’m giving it three stars because it’s well written in a way even if it isn’t at all what I would normally read. I can’t hold my preferences against it too harshly.

Wonderful Book
I loved this book! And I’m 75. The author is so witty and he made the characters come to life. I have already started reading the second one. My grandchildren will love this as well.

Dissapointed
I like magical books. And this is far from it. I could not wait to finish it. I persisted as I did not want to waste £9.99. I will be giving this author a miss from now on.
