Stitched Textiles: Nature is the fourth title in this successful theme-based series. It contains an extensive section on techniques, featuring step-by-step guides to machine- and hand-stitching, attaching embellishments and found objects to your work; painting and printing on fabrics including cotton, silk and Khadi paper; and using objects found in nature, such as leaves, to make unique and iconic prints. The book includes three beautiful, inspirational projects based on different facets of the natural world: Ocean, Rainforest, Botany, Birds and Animals. Stitched Textiles: Nature also features examples of the author, Stephanie Redfern's own intricate and detailed works based on nature, exploring the means by which the pieces have been created, and the wonderful stories behind Stephanie's journey as an artist. The wealth of information and visual stimuli in Stitched Textiles: Nature is intended to inspire the reader to create their own works inspired by nature. Stephanie begins by exploring the use of sketchbooks and study pages; progressing to picking out iconic elements from sketches and photographs; and eventually assembling a stunning, personal piece of stitched textile work on fabric or on cotton-blend Khadi paper; applying handstitch in metallic threads; machine stitch in whimsical and beautiful patterns; embellishing with natural beads or found objects. Review: Interesting book - An amazing and very interesting book. You are taken through lots of steps and ideas to give you confidence with mix media and embroidery. An asset to your library. The delivery drive was very nice and polite Review: One to turn to - Really inspiring book with lots of photos and detailed instructions on how to achieve the projects given. Will probably not follow any of the projects but will definitely turn to this book for inspiration and instruction again and again.

Inspiring
I like her loose and unorthodox approach - there's no "you must do this" or "you can't do that"; not even "you can do anything you like -, BUT . . ." Her designs are abstract yet recognizable, a style which I love.

Top Tex (tile)
I wanted a change and have a go at Textile pictures. Had a browse and the cover of this book caught my eye. I couldn't have chosen better. Well explained and illustrated - I couldn't put it down. The pictures Stephanie has created are so different - I hope I can create something half as good.

Interessante

An excellent book even if you don't sew
I can't recommend this book highly enough and I don't even really sew. Even tho it's primarily a textile book it's also a mixed media book covering monoprinting, collage, drawing and painting. She works with paper as well as fabric. So there's plenty of information, ideas, resources and inspiration for those us who are aspirational or beginning sewers. This book reads more like an extremely well written book by an artist rather than a simplistic craft book. It's an intelligent, well written, well laid out, inspirational book full of good ideas and interesting thoughts. Thank you Stephanie Redfern and congratulations on producing such a wonderful book. I'm excited enough to break out my fabric and get to work and maybe even on a machine. That says a lot. I just bought 2 more copies to pass along .
