Does this model still use the Intel Puma chipset?

It has the PUMA 7 chipset -> the 5,6 & 7 chipset are all vulnerable to the TCP issue -> but PUMA 6 is the most impacted by this issue. But you have to be targeted for it to be an issue and is only really a problem if you do "fast twitch" gaming activities while targeted. A series of very many small TCP packets can be sent in a way that overwhelms the cable modem's buffers causing latency and jitter to spike to 100-150 ms while being targeted. There is a test on DSL reports that will test this TCP vulnerability for the PUMA chipset. Intel (chipset owner -> they bought PUMA from Texas Instruments several years ago) they did come out with a patch for this issue after about a year of it being in the wild -> my understanding is that the patch has been out since mid 2018 and should be pushed down to your modem by your ISP. I bought this modem (T25) and after having it provisioned by COMCAST/XFINITY -> I ran the TCP PUMA test and my modem passed without issue & performed just as well as the rental modem. You can buy this modem without issue or fear of this PUMA chipset issue... No, T25 does not has the battery backup but you can use an external UPS power supply in case of power outages

Cox has support for ARRIS / Surfboard TM3402 here is a list. https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-certified-cable-modems.html best bet is to call them and ask. besides switching to gigablast and getting VoiP is a much better deal. you can actually save some $$ and get crazy speeds..
