Miofive S1+ 4K Dash Cam with Built-In GPS & UK Speed Camera Alerts

Saw this dashcam was recommended by a car magazine and decided to take a chance. It's actually quite superb, with a clear screen, regularly updated speed cameras locations (including mobile speed camera hotspots), it records in 4K, and came with a dashcam memory card. It also has an excellent app which connects your phone to the camera via the camera's inbuilt wi-fi, and this has proved to be robust and very easy to use. I have two rather more expensive Garmin Dashcams in other vehicles, and these are excellent, but this Mio5 is, I believe, equally good, and in some respects better than my existing cameras. I later purchased the Mio5 hard wire fitting kit and this was supplied with all the connections you could ask for.....though it didn't include a grip to remove fuses from the car's fusebox. As well as being a neater wiring solution, this hardwiring now allows me to use the camera's parking mode.....though I have yet to be convinced that this is useful. One small issue I encountered with the dashcam is that when I left home with my phone on wi-fi and travelled with it, I mysteriously lost the ability to send and/or receive data and calls on the phone. It took me a while to realise that this resulted from the phone connecting to the dashcam wi-fi (which, quite clearly, could not access mobile data). I have since learned to turn off the wi-fi connection on my phone when using the Mio5 dashcam ....a simple solution. Finally, I managed to get this camera when there was an Amazon deal, so it has proved exceptional value. I can only recommend it without reservation. The car magazine was right!

The Miofive Car Camera 4K is a solid dashcam that delivers where it counts: video quality. The 4K resolution is genuinely nice, producing clear and detailed images, even performing decently in low-light conditions. I would recommend looking up video footage for any dashcams you might be considering to compare. Installation was straightforward, and I'm pleased to report that the included sticky mount has remained firmly attached for the entire six months it's been in my car – a good sign of long-term reliability. It comes packed with various smart features. It alerts you to speed cameras and average speed check zones, which can be helpful. It also includes a 'traffic starts moving' notification, which is present for those who might find it useful. However, the downside here is that some of the speed camera zone data can be out of date, indicating a need for regular updates to maintain accuracy. Furthermore, the voice notifications for both speed cameras and traffic movement can become quite annoying, especially when driving in familiar areas or in average speed zones that aren't actually there. Fortunately, these alerts can usually be turned off in the settings - we've muted our completely. Connecting to the app can be a bit fiddly, as is often the case with dashcams, requiring you to connect to the camera's own Wi-Fi network. However, I can't imagine this is something most users would need to do very often once initially set up, typically only for reviewing footage or adjusting settings. A nice touch is the included 32GB MicroSD card to get you started. However, when recording continuously in 4K, this card will fill up rapidly – typically within a couple of hours. My partner and I recently did a 5+ hour cross-country drive, and by the time we arrived, the first half of our journey had already been overwritten. Thankfully, this dashcam supports MicroSD cards up to 512GB, so if you're someone who likes to have extensive footage to review (or wants longer loop recording without overwrites), upgrading the card is highly recommended and makes this camera truly ideal for longer trips.

For the money..it's a solid investment. When you omparebthe features to other big brand dashcamw you would be paying 3 times more than what this costs. GPS, 4k video, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and a dedicated app. I've had no issues connecting this to my android phone and I have tested the connection multiple times. Easy to set up and change the format to MPH, our date stamp and video recording preferences. It updated the speed camera database straightaway although have not had chance to test it yet. Overall very very impressed with what you get for the low purchase price, solid build quality, nice display, good app and accessories that come with it. 100% recommend.

I am a new driver (18) and I’ve been looking for ages for a decent quality dash cam. If you look through Amazon, there are many that all seem to be quite similar. I then went looking through some reviews and guides and this one kept popping up. Price wise it’s relatively inexpensive compared to some of the top end systems which is great for someone like me working off a smaller budget. Getting it out of the box, there are many useful accessories that come with it (picture above). There is a panel “crow bar” that came in use as I didn’t want to have exposed wires everywhere. Also included is a replacement 3m double sided tape-foam thing that is good if you need to transfer it to another car. I found these were nice as most other companies would expect you to pay extra for something like that cough cough, Apple chargers. Installation was easy once I decided where I was going to put the camera. I have a Citroen c3 which has a large front windscreen which goes back quite far so I didn’t want to route the wires that way. I ended up pushing the wires into the trim from the back of the windscreen round the dash and then under the centre console where I plugged it into a spare usb port. The crowbar works well but I thought I might snap some of the plastic panels at times however no damage was done. Don’t be afraid to put pressure on the panels and lift them up a bit to allow the cable to get under. Once installed I turned on my car and it started first try then prompting me to insert a SIM card so I used one I had to hand - just a sandisk. On the description they said to use theirs but it makes no difference whatsoever, most SIM cards come out the same factory anyway. There are settings on the camera where you can adjust anything you need - you don’t need to use the app as some other people were saying. You can even turn off the voice if you want but I kept it on low volume. The app also works fine, just connect to the Bluetooth and WiFi and you can watch live - don’t know why they added that. Or you can view all the captures it made. You don’t need a phone to use this product, you can use a laptop to access videos by taking the flash drive out. As capturing goes, it’s very sensitive. I live down a private road that has more potholes than the m25 so it tends to go off quite a lot when I tested it. The dashcam records a minute before the sensors detect something which is standard. In terms of video clarity and quality, the camera is good I can make out number plates from about 60m away from me in the day and about 30m at night which is fine, if you do get into an accident then you will always share info and take pictures anyways so that’s not so important. I would like to see a version with a battery for recording when I’m parked but for this price range I’m not to bothered. Overall I feel more confident when driving knowing that if an accident then I can prove it’s not my fault and that there will be indisputable evidence to back this. Deserves the five stars I gave it.

Great dash cam. Good value for money for a GPS dash cam. Mounting to windscreen is very secure and video capture is first class. App works like a dream . Had an issue with my delivery but Miofive sorted it out in no time at all. Fabulous customer service. Thank you Miofive

Rubbish. for setup, access to the unit is via its own WiFi hotspot -once you can get it working- bit of a catch 22 there (n.b it defaults to 5.4ghz) it doesn't like the Duck ducks Go browser due to its ad-blocking VPN so be warned and its built in QR code couldn't be read by my phone - although it has Bluetooth the designers seemed prioritise this Hotspot Wifi -but all it seems to do in practise is lock out your phones wifi connection etc .. e.g. when you want to update the database or the firmware or even download the App from Play store (re: firmware good luck on this aspect as i gave up after the 4th attempt) so the phone data service will be your only option with this aspect due to the timeouts I was getting I assume Bluetooth then takes over pushing the software onto the unit ? also I had the unit on USB pretty much all the time as it was completely discharged out of the box, so you'd think the unit would at least turn on after the internal "capacitor" / battery was charged from hours of USB charging /faffing about - ? not at all. + side : lots of cable with a fairly sturdy little plastic lever to ruin your pillar liners with-not that got that far- , the sticker for the windshield bracket looks tiny I assume it has some kind on no more nails glue that once on will NOT be coming off in a hurry ? So why the preliminary set up cant be done over Bluetooth and then the major software pushed to the device etc is beyond me, but all in all setting this unit up was a complete FAFF, thinking some more on it , driving with such a setup would mean your phones wifi and bluetooth has to be dedicated to the device , its doing similar along with its speed limit GPS, combined with your phone GPS ?? someone in MIOFIVE should ring up TP-LINK and ask them how seamless setting up is done. sorry Auto Express I will treat your recommendations with a more cynical eye going forward.

I do not normally do reviews but felt the need to do one for the Miofive dash cam. I purchased it in november 2024 and had been working flawlessly i even urged my daughter to get one and also for her boyfriend which they both did, there's are both working as they should but mine developed a small fault 10 months later. i got in contact with Miofive to which they responded almost immediately. They continued their customer support until my problem was solved to my satisfaction. The support and customer service has been better than John Lewis. The dashcam itself is really easy to operate and records with no problems, its good at keeping you alert with great recognition of speed cameras with audio and on screen display and especially the distance measuring variable cameras on motorways they let you know how much you are under or over going through 10 miles of roadworks. if you have this dashcam in your basket and deciding which one to purchase this one will not disappoint 10/10

Happy with everything Except this: while setting connection between my phone and the camera, it interfered with the keyless entry device of the car. I could not start the engine, but managed to lock the car and restarted the car about two hours later.

Very good quality dash-cam also easy to install. Very useful the quick release system from the windshield, in case you should remove the camera inside sensitive areas. Not yet explored all the features, but for the moment I have what I need. App easy to use. Price very honest.
