Rope-Style Tree Strap

If you're like me and started out using the "seat belt" style straps then trust me when I say you have to buy this! It's a gamechanger. It's so simple and easy to use compared to the others. Just sling it around the tree, run it through the loop, snap in your harness and you're done. It's a very nice rope and has a nice feel to it. It also rolls up nicely to go in your pack. I bought a second climbing rated carabiner, and a ropeman ascender to pair with this rope. I use it as a lineman belt for hanging climbing sticks, and as a tree tether when using a climber or ladder stand. With my climber i throw this thing on the tree while on the ground, and just move it up the tree as I climb. Using this method is super simple and keeps me safe from the ground up! I highly recommend this rope!

So this is about a 7 or 8 foot piece of somewhat stiff climbing rope with a loop tied in one end and a prusik knot with carabiner on the other, with a knit at the opposite end to keep the prusik from sliding off. If you know what you're doing, you can use this at least three different ways. First, use as intended for a tree safety strap and wrap it around the tree, stuff the prusik through the loop, and hook it to your harness while in the stand. It works OK for this, although the loop is really a little too big and lets it slide down the tree so it doesn't stay up and tight as I'd prefer. Second, use it as a life line for shorter stands. Hook it to an existing tree strap using the loop and slide the prusik up and down as you ascend or descend the tree. This won't work for anything more than ten feet off the ground, but they sell a more expensive system that's just for this use that has a longer rope. Finally, you can hook the loop through your line man's belt or waist harness throw the strap around the tree, and hook your prusik to the other side of your line man's belt and use the stiff strap as a lineman strap or climbing strap. Works fantastic for this as you can use the prusik to slide in or out from the tree and work however you're comfortable. You absolutely can not assemble this system for the price they are offering. If I was making it myself, I'd make the knot tighter so it would stay in the tree better, but for the price you can't beat its versatility.

Whether you make your own or purchase this one, I would definitely recommend purchasing one of these setups to anyone that tree stand hunts. Once it's set in the tree it provides a safe, convenient, and reliable way to get up and down from your stand without risking a fall. There are two downsides to this product that I have found: 1. You still need to find a way to set up your tree stand and tree strap before you can use this safety rope. That's not a knock at all to this product or its design, but definitely something to consider. I personally use a linemans' rope and it works well for me. 2. The rope could come a bit longer. I only sit between 15-20 feet up in a tree, yet I found that the rope wasn't quite as long as I had hoped it would be. I have to climb up to the first step of my tree stand before I can hook myself to the line. This isn't a dangerous thing, rather an inconvenience. However, it would be worth either HSS providing a longer rope, or if you like your stand set very high in the tree, considering another option. All in all it is my opinion that this is worth the money you pay for it and a necessary addition to any tree stand hunter's system. Just be sure to consider your stand height when looking at this option. If you sit over 20 feet in the tree, you may want to look elsewhere.

I've been hunting for decades. I'm more than half a century old. Since the early days of climbers I've been using the old seatbelt style safety strap around the tree. The issue is with every few feet going up the tree I need to reach around, pull the tab to loosen the strap, slide it up, grab the longer loose part of the strap, tighten it down, then repeat that 7 or 8 times. It's a laborious and sometimes loud process. The little metal part that I have to thread the end through clinks together, etc. This rope solves all that nonsense. It's noiseless and super fast. I honestly can't believe I haven't been using this for years. Few things that I've bought for hunting are this fantastic. I love it.

Let me start by saying I'm 6' 4" and 285 lbs. I ordered this after seeing several of my buddies start using it and I gotta say. It Saved My Life already!!!! Hanging ladder stands 20 ft up and had a buddy "holding" the bottom (he's a hunter in training and I use that term loosely, lol). I was at the top trying to tie off with ratchet straps and I had hooked the HSS Rope style tree strap as soon as I got to top rung, near seat. My buddy's cell phone rang and he instinctively reached to answer it, let go of ladder and it tipped sideways with me at the top. It's safe to say I was just "hanging out", 20ft in the air and the prusik knot on the HSS tree strap did not slip even an inch. I'll now be ordering the HSS Lifeline for each of my ladder stands and keeping the HSS for use with my climbers too. Thank You HSS for an AWESOME product!!!!!!!!

Excatly what I wanted! Awesome quality. I purchased a Summit climber but could not stand the seat belt material tree strap that came with it... it kept twisting when tightened & losened while climbing which was highly annoying, also it was much slower and it really pulled my face towards the tree as the back strap on the harness is not the longest for obvious reasons, -it really limited my movement. This safety rope is the solution to all of these issues being fixed, it is quiet, super fast and highly adjustable in length for what ever slack you feel comfortable with. Well worth the money, the carabiner hooks on to the harness quickly and in silence. Everything about this rope is great, I feel safe and free.
