This epitomises reading for fun, reading for pleasure.
This is a book in The Inheritance Games Series which I thoroughly enjoy. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is an author I credit with recapturing my love of reading at 10 years old, so I perpetually have a soft spot for her writing. I’m truly a sucker for reading about privilege and arrogance and loyalty, especially when it’s packaged in characters that we get to see vulnerable, and even more so when the book itself is fun and fast paced. Jameson as a character is electric, I have a guilty pleasure for London in any book, and there is something Gatsby-esque about the Devil’s Mercy, which was exhilarating to read. And it feels like a shot of adrenaline when the Hawthorne brothers come together in this book, unwinding a mystery and shocking energy into the pages.

50% fabulous, 50% decent
I was THRILLED we get to continue in the Inheritance Games when I saw this published. Half of it absolutely lived up to the delight of the original Inheritance Games series - Jameson's storyline. The other half focused on Grayson's storyline and it was incredibly meh for me. They've all got daddy issues, but he seems to revel in playing the victim more than the other brothers. And as the older of the two brothers focused on in this book, he's acting the most childish. I buddy read this with my daughter and we both were trying to rush through the Grayson chapters so we could get to the very excellent Jameson chapters. It's a shame it looks like more of Grayson's storyline will be the focus in the next book, but I hold out hope maybe it picks up and he grows up a bit and stops wallowing in self-pity as if he's the only one allowed to be screwed up.

If you expect the main “ship” you’ll be disappointed
My niece liked it, so, so. It talked too much about her least fav ship and not enough about the main characters from the previous novels. I have gotten her the rest of the series which she loved… so far I’m missing Glorious Rivals and the one that will be released shortly.

ooh! Brilliant!
What a wonderful mess of twists, turns, vulnerabilities and more. This story is artfully woven into an addictive adventure as each of the key players discover something more about themselves. Another great story. I look forward to the next ones.
