Storage Array
I bought and was excited when I got it today, however.. I bought a 2 TD with it, new. this was just going to be backing up my data, my old 9 years old DAS time to go. Open it , put the new drive in closed power it up, missing drive error ., after messing around with it , the unit is in a Raid 1 set., so I had a 1 TD drive for the second drive, at least I tried to get over the missing drive, but error again ., this time wrong capacity , I knew that., most raid 1 will mirror it with the smallest drive , in this case 1 TB drive ., the other issue is the buzzing while your trying to troubleshoot it. After 5 min's , I have to turn it off for a bit my ears. So I looked online to see how I can change the raid from 1 to JBOD is what I want. I tried the GUI program ., nope and the front panel has no way that I know to change the raid level, no dip switches either. I emailed support asking how to change the raid level . I am thinking you need add two of the same drive's like - two - 500gig drives and so on to configure anything ----------------------------------------------------------- Update: will I emailed there support and they got back to me., the unit does not support JBOD., why I don't know. now the rest I was able to get a single 2TB drive to mount on computer format it NTFS just fine, I noticed that it's only works with the eStat port., the USB 3 does not work period. So today I bought another WB 2TB drive put it in the second drive, everything started to work rebuilding process , very slow, there nothing on either drive , why so long? the GUI software still does not work period. The thing is I can't find anywhere how to setup raid 0., I believe it's only a raid 1 unit, there is no where in the menu to select raid 0 option.. I asked there support howto put the unit into raid 0., all they did is send me a definition of each raid does LOL ----------------------------------------- Updated again Well, here I start.. my USB 3.0 just does not work, so I got a USB Analyzer and I also bought a USB Volt/AMP meter for both USB 2.0 and 3.0.. there only about 10.00 well work it. when I put my USB Volt/AMP meter inline to the USB port 2.0/3.0 and my computer 2.0/3.0 ., I do receive around 5V okay there, it powers the device up.. the AMP - rating is ZERO, yes, I mean no amp's coming from the unit, that it is why the USB port does not work. The esata port no issues 5V and 18 AMP's , and thing less then 18 AMP's the drives will not show-up in windows explorer , that's for 2.0/3.0 USB. for some reason when I reboot my computer ., it seems the unit losses amp's . down to 12 amp's . It's not until I have to reboot the DAS., and pull the usb connection in and out to again get 18 amp's.

Excellent Product!!!!
This is what I've been looking for all these times. I'm sick and tired of the portable USB external hard drive that is totally unreliable (remember?? when window couldn't recognize the drive and keep telling to reformat??? --yep that is what I'm talking about.) Well thanks GOD for this product. With built-in fan and power supply, this thing is cool. This product is not that big and very well made, just big enough to hold two 3.5 hard drives. The USB3 cable provided works with my USB2 computer, you don't need to buy extra cable for that. There are two settings for the RAID: RAID 0 and RAID 1: RAID 0 -- have no data security meaning no backup ( if you put in two 1T drives, you end up with 2T) RAID 1 -- default setting, this provided data security mean if you put in two 1T drives, it will writes the same data to both drives. If one drive gone bad, the other one is still good --but total capacity still 1T b/c 1T for backup. I put in only one drive and it still works just fine, but I don't have the backup for the data. Copy 2GB of stuffs to it from my USB2 computer took about 2min. However, copy 2GB from the drive took only 1min and 30sec. I bought WD Blue 1 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache - WD10EZEX , and this works well so far. This is perfect solution for my backup. I'm planning to but in another WD blue hard drive for the backup backup solution.

Pretty but completely useless
Device is pleasing to look at but does not work. Item simply does not work reliably nor for very long I bought this recently to use for backups. Installed two NAS rated 4tb HGST disks I bought at the same time in a raid 1 (mirror) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HHAJRU0/ref=oh_details_o01_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The device took several days to properly format, which seemed excessive... Then ran a basic file-backup of a couple of TB using robocopy. After completing around 200gb, the device went offline. The in-device diagnostics said everything was fine, but it couldn't be opened via explorer or even accessed via CMD. The software which comes with the device is VERY basic and could not detect it except to say it was offline. Unplugging and replugging the USB cable did not resolve it. The issue was inside the box itself and the only fix was to turn it off and then back on. At which point it could copy another few gigabytes and once more went offline. Other USB disks attached to the same PC do not have this issue.

Don't reccomend that anyone should purchase it.
Had Bought the unit and populated it with two WDC RE-4 hard drives for my uncle. He reported it over heats and set off the temp alarm when operating in a room at 70degress. The units Cooling fan is insufficient. So the Air gap above the drive should be more and the fan should be much larger. Thus it needs a complete redesign. Also, it would not work with a longer USB 3.0 Cable. Most likely it has a cheap J-micron chip that does do Cable length impedance matching. Recommend no one purchase this unit.

Perfect External Raid Box
I use these devices to add external eSATA raided drives to the computers at work. The reason I like to use external devices because it's easier to see which device may be faulty. Installation is simple, just mount the drives and plug them in.
