To which secret society does Prince Charles belong? What's the trick to instant weight loss? Authors Rachel Howard and Bill Nash have prowled the city streets, seeking out the hidden, eccentric and overlooked. Now the definitive insider's guide to London has been fully updated, with over 40 new entries and a brand new look. Far from the crowds and the usual cliches, London still reserves a number of hidden treasures for those who know how to wander off the beaten track. Review: Very informative - Very informative book interesting to read Review: Really good find! - My friend recently bought this book and got me intrigued. I've lived in London all my life and didn't know half of the places in the book existed! It's really great if you want to visit London either cheaply or you just want to see some of the more unusual things London has to offer. It's also really interesting just to read and find out some more history about London. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family.

Lovely Little Alternative Guide Book
This book is about nooks and crannies and the wonders therein. It is for dipping in and out of, rather than reading cover-to-cover but it is nothing more than it claims to be; an unusual guide. I bought this book to help me discover a side to a city I only had a cosmetic understanding of and it has not failed to both inspire and delight in equal measure. I like the fact that it has almost beligerently sought out the least accessible and popular places for a potential tourist to go to. I like that it is looking at old drinking fountains and dental museums with a sense of wonder. It is essentially breaking this huge city down into its respective small villages then treating each as if it were nothing more or less than just that. Do not buy this book if you are after somewhere 'different' to take the children, it is not that kind of book. Neither should it be used as a sole recourse for a day-out. It is more useful as a source of reference as you transit through areas (preferably by foot) to help wonder at the sheer scale of diversity the cities history has to offer. Overall, I would recommend this book to those who are looking to discover more about London than its top 10 attractions on tripadvisor.

Fantastic, quirky ideas
If you're looking for out-of-the-ordinary things to do in London, this is your book. Enough to keep the most ardent explorer busy, but some things only require looking out the window of the tube as you flash past, so physical exertion is not essential. Great mix of ideas, everyone in my family loves this book.

Very readable and useful
My friend bought a copy at the Chelsea Physic Garden ( one of the entries ) and I couldn't put it down so I had to buy a copy for myself. Lots of really interesting places to visit and hidden corners of London to discover. Compact enough to carry around but well illustrated and good to read at home.

A much appreciated gift for London explorers.
This was a gift and the recipient was completely fascinated by the amount of interesting information on places that he had never come across during his many walks around London. Nicely illustrated and a handy size to carry essily when exploring.

Super Insidertipps

Splendid and compact guide to less-reviewed places
The book is slender and easily-packed or carried.Very pleasing design and format, also. Many less-than-commonly-covered ideas, sites and sights are covered. Descriptions are brief and pleasant. I was cued to the Hunterian Museum in Lincoln's Inn Field by this guide. That suberb and, to me, incredibly important museum (perhaps the analogue of the Museum of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the USA) doesn't even rate a mention in other guides I've used and doesn't appear on some mapping programs, though the Sir John Soames museum across the park always appears. I am so grateful for this guide's tip to what I otherwise would have missed. This may not be a guide for a first-time visitor to London... or it might, if one doesn't want to follow the usual and expected routes but would like, instead, a number of other more personally-selected rewards. Oh, and it's a terrific bargain.
